The number of times I have been delighted by witty banter only to find out later that I was “Flirting” is both unfortunate and disappointing.
“haha so what about that guy, huh?”
Me: what about him
“Well you seemed super into him”
Me: what why
“…dude you were flirting all night”
Me:
Me: Whoms't™™
I found out several of my female coworkers were planning on trying to get our male coworker to ask me out because “You guys kept flirting” but I was like “We were literally just goofing around. Like we literally just told jokes to each other. Literally just stuff that friends do, the same stuff you and I do.” I was definitely 100% NOT flirting but everyone thought I was
“You were laughing at everything TJ did!”
“He paper clipped a banana to the ceiling, Isabelle. That’s fucking bonkers”
This might be a good time for Ms. Psych degree here to step in and let ye all know that People Are Unable To Identify Flirting. There are double-blind studies to support this, if you instruct participants to flirt or not flirt with another participant, neither the second participant nor onlookers are able to accurately tell which instruction the first participant was given. Even if you get the flirting participant to rate their attraction to the person they’re flirting with, and only count trials where people are either flirting with people they find attractive, or not flirting with people they don’t find attractive NO ONE CAN TELL WHO IS FLIRTING OR WHO ISN’T.
I’ve heard that people actually have a *less than 50% chance* of guess whether someone is flirting or not.
Thank fuck this isn’t just me failing at humanity
SagePub has one such study here, dated 2014. There might be more recent work, however.
oh thank God! I also thought it was just me.
every time people bring up evil shit that facebook has done i think about how it’s fucked that nobody in facebook’s administration has faced any sort of justice for their part in carelessly disseminating pro-genocide propaganda. a little crazymaking that people don’t bring that part up more often tbh

isn't it so crazy how tmes love ""trans inclusive misogyny"" and see it as something hilarious and gender affirming but suddenly when it's trans inclusive ""misandry"" it's not funny at all
Autumn Hill left a Prairieland ICE facility protest before it turned violent. She was still sentenced to 50 years as part of Trump's war on
They're sending a trans woman to prison for life over the fact that she attended an anti-ICE protest where a cop died (she had already left the protest when the 'violence' started)
they should make it easier to get bottom surgery
special mention to how the BMI requirements are horrific and they need to go!
I've been thinking a lot lately about how many trans women I've known who come to realize over time that they experience much more bottom dysphoria than they've consciously understood
I think this is partially a problem of trans women being fetishized, a trans woman's value being equated with her penis, but I think it's also partially a problem of availability. personally if something is difficult to attain then I have an internal reflex to unconsciously convince myself I don't want or need it. for this reason and many others it needs to be made easier
personally it's fucking crazy going through life not even being able to be naked around trusted loved ones or fully have sex because the dysphoria is so bad. it's unacceptable that so many of us have to live like this. it's horrible that for many trans women it's almost impossible to get the care we need. it does not have to be like this
GOD. YEAH. YUPPPP
okay so amall update on my tme/tma hot takes;
yeah okay the way progressive leftist tme people talk about imane khelif is so blatantly transmisogynistic and they dont seem to give a shit about trans women. they talk about how horrendous it is that shes accused of being a trans woman and dont give a shit about what it might be like to be a trans woman. to not have childhood pictures to show, to not have the ability to get your genes tested and prove that you are not a tr***y, to not have an out to the worst possible scenario, being a trans woman
my thoughts on the base language used as ineffective stands, i think the words Affected and Exempt are needlessly confrontational towards non-transfems but the framework itself is so obviously necessary to call attention to. this is not some kind of revelation for me, its just been reinforced by how brushed aside i have seen transfems when tme people talk about transmisogyny. it makes so much sense transfems would structure our intersection of oppression around it centering ourselves so explicitly, it feels like the only way to get across to tme people of all kinds that we are the target, we have sights on our backs, we are the worst thing you can be. the accusation that you are one of us is horrifying to these people. building our framework around calling as much attention as we can that we are the thing youre horrified of being accused of makes all the sense in the world.
I've been using "exemptable" instead of exempt lately, since it's a more accurate description of how TME people can occasionally be subject to transmisogynistic behavior, but are able to exempt ourselves simply by proving our status as TME. either works, because they mean the same thing, but I think the using "exemptable" can MAYBE help prevent the annoying hand-wringing about "buh-buh-but one time someone thought i was a trans woman!!!"
i think exemptable is way more effective language!
i think they mean the same thing and it doesnt matter what language we use cuz TMEs will willfully misinterpret our language to be bigotry because they hate us existing is my take (and prob always will be honestly)
i think thats true to a large extent but not entirely. i know there is a significant amount of tme people who misinterpret our language because it is easily misinterpreted and having to explain the framework in ways that directly contradict the words/terms used is not effective rhetoric.
exempt and exemptable dont mean the same thing but when people explain the framework they end up describing being exemptable, not exempt. the difference is that being exempt implies experiencing no transmisogyny in any way, i.e. being exempt from experiencing it despite there being many instances of transmisogynistic trauma in the form of shit like genital inspection or doxxing experienced by non-transfems
exemptable makes it clearer that the distinction is being able to prove in whatever way that you are not a transfem, the primary target of transmisogyny, a privilege that merits a distinction in positionality through a framework like tme/tma without it needing to be explicitly explained in detail upon people seeing the term for the first time and thinking "but there are people who arent transfem and who are affected and not exempt"
i still have some issue with exemptable, there are instances where people *cant* exempt themselves from transmisogyny even after trying to prove they are not the primary target, and affected as the counterpart still implies that transmisogyny in any form against non transfems is unaffecting but i do think its definitely a step in the right direction tbh

"Hating the oppressor class makes you bigoted and you're actually hurting yourself 🥺🥺🥺🥺" Fucking choice feminist bullshit I'm so tired of pick mes. Policing an women's language regarding their oppressors is anti-feminist. This is coming from a genderfluid trans woman, you look like a dumbass.
Block this fucker and move on.
also i've seen plenty of men (regardless of if they're cis or trans) say they also hate men and NOBODY SEEMS TO POLICE THEM, HUH. no but when a woman says it you're actually being mean to yourself little tranny aww poor dumb troon you're not allowed to dislike oppressors or make jokes about them.
imagine if i told a black person they're not allowed to make jokes about white people. that's fucking weird, yeah?
15k notes on this bullshit I am tired.
The idea of a "binary trans person who aggressively reproduces the cis status quo" is just completely absurd. You are, by definition, outside of the status quo if you are a transgender person.
Like these people don't exist, this post fully made up a non-existent group of "binary trans people" because they would show their whole ass if they said "tme/tma is a regressive binary"
I worry sometimes about young, well meaning people getting pulled into this rather reactionary-coded way of thinking.
"Made with the help of ai" here is fascinating. Why'd it take a picture of young thug that's a well known meme? Also why'd it make them white? Who saw this and went "yep, this really screams «high quality journalism»"
Starmer is rushing legislation through parliament that experts say threatens free speech, public interest journalism and international human
@isuggestrevolution do you have any ideas
i have for a while been using stepping on somebody's toes as a metaphor for misgendering. and i genuinely think that it's kind of a good one.
if you keep stepping on somebody's toes for a long time at minimum they're probably going to start really hating you and at maximum you might cause them lasting damage.
if you do it on purpose you're a dick. if it's on accident but you keep doing it that person is still going to be mad at you because you don't care enough to try not to step on their toes
if you give a grovelling begging apology after accidentally stepping on somebody's toes one time you're going to make the whole thing awkward, but not giving a quick "sorry" before moving on is still kind of rude.

Imagine seeing an interesting beetle keep confidently walking up to random other bugs trying to fight them, losing, and then trying again. That's weird enough to be interesting. You got nothing better to do so you watch it go. It gets flipped over so you take a little straw and help it upwards again, so it gets up and skitters to go fight yet another strange bug and lose. But it lives and keeps going. You keep watching this crazy little creature. There's a puddle in the way it's going, so you put a stick over the puddle so it won't drown because you want to see what dumb thing it will try next. It falls off the stick so you get another straw to gently nudge it out of the water. Determined, the beetle gets back on its five or six little feet and keeps going.
I think that's what it's like from the other side, whenever there's a legendary hero who is favoured by a god. You are a cool, shiny bug, determined to do strange and inadvisable weird shit, and they want to know what the hell you're planning to do next.
just finished this month's book club book, went skimming goodreads reviews afterwards as you do, got my breath taken away by this absolutely brutal ending to one of the multi-paragraph 1 star reviews
