"I do. I need you"
"Then his thumb slides along a catch I didn't notice before and the disk pops open. It's not solid, as I had thought, but a locket. And within the locket are photos. On the right side, my mother and Prim, laughing. And on the left, Gale. Actually smiling.
There is nothing in the world that could break me faster at this moment than these three faces. After what I heard this afternoon… it is the perfect weapon. " - Chapter 24 Catching Fire

Happy Father's Day
Thirty feet up the path. She had called him from that far so as not to startle him, but she had startled him just fine. She'd said "Papa," a word she'd so rarely used that at first he took her for a vengeful spirit playing menace against him. But that was because he couldn't see her in the green shadows. She came forward, realizing herself in the light on the path. "Liir." Her more usual term of address, to steady him. "Get a grip. It's just me."
And that's all it was, just her, just his daughter and only child, back from wherever she'd gone more than a year ago. He allowed her to pull him to a standing position.

It's Juneteenth!
Miss Juneteenth, Houston (1983)
For three decades, Daniel S. Williams documented Juneteenth and Emancipation Day celebrations across the country — which included parades, cookouts, and other gatherings.

Happy Juneteenth 2026
For Juneteenth this year, I'd like to share some information about a woman who few may have heard of. Her name is Dr. Opal Lee and she is considered the Grandmother of Juneteenth. She is still alive today as of June 19th 2026 at 99 years old!
Known as the “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” Dr. Opal Lee was present on June 17, 2021, when President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act bill that established June 19 or “Juneteenth” a federal holiday. Ms. Lee said on that day, “Now we can celebrate freedom from the 19th of June to the 4th of July!” Opal Lee was born in Marshal, Texas, in 1926 and moved to Fort Worth, Texas, in 1937. At the age of 12, her family’s home was destroyed on June 19, 1939, but she nor her family allowed that to deter them from making an impact in the community.

if you don't do anything else today,
Please have a moment of silence for the people who were killed instead of freed when news of emancipation finally reached the furthest corners of the american south.
have another moment for the ledgers, catalogs, and records that were burned and the homes that were destroyed to hide the presence of very much alive and still enslaved people on dozens of plantations and homesteads across the south for decades after emancipation.
and have a third moment for those who were hunted and killed while fleeing the south to find safety across the border, overseas, in the north and to the west.
black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.
if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.
This is Juneteenth.
white people CAN interact with this post. share it, spread it.
Juneteenth marks a pivotal moment in the long and complex history of emancipation in the United States. This JSTOR Daily reading list explores how freedom was commemorated across different communities, the origins of Juneteenth celebrations, and the ways Black Americans used Emancipation Day gatherings to advocate for citizenship, voting rights, and civic participation. What’s your favorite art piece you made? I think one of my favorites is the Abbott Elementary drawing of Gregory and Janine. ❤️☺️❤️ But honestly I love them all for different reasons.
I know who this is 😟
I do really like the Abbott one! I really liked how the colors and textures ended up :) I need to make more Abbott Elementary art ❤️
My favs change a lot but I really love my art that I just experiment with! I like to have a different color lineart for some pieces. And using different brushes make digital art a bit more fun!
BUT My fav art piece as of right now is the Hyuna Alien stage one! She reminds me of my friend and this was just fun pose/random brush experiment 🩵🩵🩵
