current obsession: many things, all of them animated, but I'm really really in my Legion of Super-Heroes feels at the moment because they've FINALLY announced the artist (Hayden Sherman) and the date (September) of the new ongoing comic :DDDDD

currently reading: alas no novels at the moment, but I am about halfway through last year's Magik run of comics and greatly enjoying it!!!! The last novel I read was 'Olivia Gray Will Not Fade Away' by Ciera Burch which is a middle grade aroace coming of age story. It was very sweet, I loved it

currently working on: two things, both sparked by the Legion insanity: a 60s Saturn Girl cosplay and reanimating the My Adventures With Superman intro into a hypothetical My Adventures With the Legion of Superheroes intro. I started both of these yesterday so they're not very far along but I'm very excited :DD

Miss Juneteenth, Houston (1983)

For three decades, Daniel S. Williams documented Juneteenth and Emancipation Day celebrations across the country — which included parades, cookouts, and other gatherings.

For Juneteenth this year, I'd like to share some information about a woman who few may have heard of. Her name is Dr. Opal Lee and she is considered the Grandmother of Juneteenth. She is still alive today as of June 19th 2026 at 99 years old!

Known as the “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” Dr. Opal Lee was present on June 17, 2021, when President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act bill that established June 19 or “Juneteenth” a federal holiday. Ms. Lee said on that day, “Now we can celebrate freedom from the 19th of June to the 4th of July!” Opal Lee was born in Marshal, Texas, in 1926 and moved to Fort Worth, Texas, in 1937. At the age of 12, her family’s home was destroyed on June 19, 1939, but she nor her family allowed that to deter them from making an impact in the community.

Please have a moment of silence for the people who were killed instead of freed when news of emancipation finally reached the furthest corners of the american south.

have another moment for the ledgers, catalogs, and records that were burned and the homes that were destroyed to hide the presence of very much alive and still enslaved people on dozens of plantations and homesteads across the south for decades after emancipation.

and have a third moment for those who were hunted and killed while fleeing the south to find safety across the border, overseas, in the north and to the west.

black people. light a candle, write a note to those who have passed telling them what you have achieved in spite of the racist and intolerant conditions of this world, feel the warmth of the flame under your hand, say a prayer of rememberance if you are religious, place the note under the candle, and then blow it out.

if you have children, sit them down and tell them anything you know about the life of oldest black person you've ever met. it doesn't have to be your own family. tell them what you know about what life was like for us in the days, years, decades after emancipation. if you don't know much, look it up and learn about it together.
