Finally finished this little family drama I've literally had in the works since the moment I read the SOTR epilogue. Had a nice burst of inspiration and am proud to have gotten this done in time to celebrate our favorite grumpy victor on his bday.

I sit in my old rocking chair on the front porch—the one I found in our attic all those years ago when Peeta and I first got married—holding my daughter in my lap and pointing things out to her. We've started labeling everything since she said her first word a couple of months ago, trying to add to her tiny vocabulary. So far she can say "momma", "dada", and what Peeta swears is "dough" but I think is just "no." Right now she's babbling nonsense and kicking her feet as I point out red and orange leaves and name the trees growing along Tupelo Street.

If the star crossed lovers from district 12 never went into the games, if they were never pitted against each other, doomed to fight and kill each other, if their stars weren’t crossed at all, what would have happened anyway?

His hand slips under the shirt I put back on for fishing and he runs a firm touch up my stomach to my breast that makes my breath hitch. He's bolder with me than he used to be.
