Mouthwashing birthday week day 2
So there was a fanfic on Ao3 called “Wash you mouth out” and it’s basically a Tangled AU/the plot of Tangled but with more violence (granted I haven’t watched the movie since I was 8). Lmk if you want a link to it. Without spoiling too much fic itself was a fun read imo even though there were some spelling mistakes. But basically I made some concept art of the characters based on the story. I described the full details on Reddit so I’ll just copy and paste here:
To sum up the fic, basically Curly (who is a prince) is going to marry Anya but then she gets kidnapped by Jimmy (like the counterpart of Mother Gothel) and held hostage in a tower for a few months, eventually Daisuke who is a royal guard stumbles upon the tower.
In terms of designs, there really isn’t much to go off of aside from a few things: Anya wears a dark blue dress, Daisuke is a royal guard + wears armour and has some weapons, and Jimmy wears a cloak. I mainly went off my interpretations, their colour codes in the game, and heavily referenced the designs of the tangled characters.
- For Anya, at first I thought she was a princess so I gave her a pretty dress as per the time period. Then I realized she’s just a nurse who’s marrying a prince so I gave her more “nurse symbols” like the shawl on her dress and the nurse pin. I still kept the dress details cuz I like it on her and the dark blues compliment it.
- For Daisuke, at first he was going to have a lot of armour but the royal guards in tangled don’t actually have a lot of armour so I kinda went with a mix of “tangled royal guard” with knight, hence the chain mail. Compared to Swansea, I gave him a bit more tacked on armour to defence his novicness.
- For Swansea, I basically used Daisuke design but modified it to make it look more regal (shoulder plates, feathers, a sword) since I believe Swansea is the head of the royal guard. I would also imagine the guards basically have the same armour but add their own flair to it (which is why I gave Daisuke a magenta underneath shirt and Swansea a gold one, I wanted it to reflect their characters in the game). TBH Swansea to the shortest to design.
- For Jimmy I may or may not have ripped off Flynn Riders design lol. But I definitely kept the kind of clothes he wears and gave him a cloak (I think the cloak being short works better for him in his design). I also imaged he wears a lot of dark green and brown colours giving him a more “hunter/Robin Hood” look cuz Jimmy’s still a criminal in the story and is framed heavily as an “evil sadistic bastard”. He is definitely the easiest to colour.
- Curly was probably the hardest to design mostly cuz there wasn’t much said about his appearance in the fic and even to reference in tangled. But I mostly based off his design from Prince Charming in Cinderella. Obviously he’s the prince so I imagine he would have more royal attire like a sash, fancy coat and even a sword and went from there. I gave him more a more muted colour scheme so it differs from Anyas colour scheme. Also side note, the kingdom is literally named Tulpar, so stuff like Curly’s sash and the royal guard armour is based on the Pony Express logo and uniform.
