It's like ... yeah, values like "scholarship" and "arete" are deep and true and shrouded in the vapors of antiquity, but ... but long before Pythagoras and his triangles, long before the chemistry of Abū Mūsā Jābir ibn Ḥayyān, age upon age ere Homer sang or Vyasa gathered up his books, trout trouted, trenchant, troutily, in the glissome, gloaming depths of lakes and seas.

They are their own moral value, trout; it is immanent in them. It bubbles in the marrow of their souls; it swims inside them, and it manifests in trout.
