no exactly and whats killing me is that some of these people seem to think will has earned mack's respect because they make tiktoks together and have fun off the ice...? likeeee mack has bonded with will this much and respects him this deeply because he's a good hockey player first and foremost and everything else comes after that. mack would hate a will trade not just because they're best friends but because will is literally the second most skilled forward on the team 😭 and these are the dudes that hold mack up as this future captain and talk about how smart and driven he is and then completely fail to apply that understanding to how he evaluates the people around him. it's also one of my biggest gripes with warso's whole will lacks compete narrative. do you genuinely think macklin celebrini of all people would get this close to someone he viewed as careless or not passionate enough about hockey? be serious!!! mack respects the hell out of will because he sees the player he is

me, in tears: will you were born to be a hockey player!!!! don't let anyone tell you otherwise!!! or call your game selfish!!!! will who could've become anything he wanted, or followed the comiskey path laid out for him for literal centuries. will who chose hockey because he liked the jerseys, running around and playing pretend in them, spending all day skating on his secret lexington pond and shooting pucks in the basement!!! will who went through the ntdp horrors and came out of it because they all loved each other!!! will who thrived at bc playing with his two buddies!! who moved to wing after playing center all his life!! LOVEEEE has always been the answer for him and his hockey! the ultimate guys guy, someone who takes pride in being a player other people can play with, praised by practically everyone who's shared a room or a bench with him. part of his game is sacrifice. and yes you're willing to give away a piece of yourself because you trust you're getting something back. yes he benefits from playing with great players and from building chemistry with them. but there's something beautiful about developing a style of hockey that depends so completely on connection, on being willing to be seen, read, and understood by the people around you, especially for someone like will who can be private, who can keep parts of himself tucked away. on the ice, laying everything on the table for his teammates the way people do for someone they love.... my lover boy who treats hockey like that. my lover boy who treats his teammates like that!! no wonder everyone who plays with him would cut their hand off for him
