Do we really think the 80s and its Satanic Panic were better at critical thinking? what about the 40s? the Victorian era? societies have always had problems with critical thinking and literacy, because most societies have dealt with propaganda, corrupt leadership, difficulty providing education (due to poverty or discrimination or other issues), and/or people who resist critical thinking (due to privilege or circumstance or what have you). we can criticize media trends without pulling a "well back in the GOOD OLD DAYS" about it.

i promise you she knows how to use emojis properly and fully understands what a meme is. she probably doomscrolls on social media from time to time. please stop lumping her in the same category as robby and abbott just because she’s an attending and a mom, im begging. yall are stripping her of her whimsy 😭

Guaranteed Baran is 40 and obviously a nerd. She’s better at tech than most of us. She pirated everything throughout her youth. Torrents and Usenet. She despairs when she sees people say they don’t know how to watch shows without buying streaming services. She can’t believe some of the med students paid for their textbooks. She hosted LAN parties to play Artemis in her undergrad dorm. She’s a console command girlie, when not using Linux. And guaranteed MSF requires some hardscrabble internet solutions.

She’s still around 25 years away from retirement let’s not send her to an old folks home yet.

And it makes her sitting alone in her car at the end of the day so much sadder. Because surely she has family and friends who love her and who would hold her if she asked. But she’s too ashamed to be open with the people she loves. So instead of being touched and comforted, she’s entirely alone with her secret.

Thinking about her in Afghanistan hiding in a hospital under attack and trying to ground herself with her own touch, trying to keep calm and keep everyone around her calm too because she’s the doctor and even here hiding from gun shots she needs to take care of the women around her in some way, even if only by trying to keep everyone calm so they can keep hidden.
