Thorin, eager to woo Bilbo as best as he can, overhears a conversation between the hobbit and the other dwarves and discovers that it's common for hobbits to express their feelings with flowers.
So Thorin collects the most beautiful and fragrant flowers he finds during their adventure, and one evening, after deciding the bouquet is suitable, he gives it to Bilbo.
The hobbit looks at the flowers, then at Thorin, then back at the flowers.
"Do you know what these mean?" Bilbo asks, no emotion in his words.
"Yes," says Thorin, because he's not stupid; obviously he gives the flowers to Bilbo because he knows they're a hobbit's courtship gift!
Bilbo wrinkles his nose and raises his chin.
"Well, then, I'm glad you expressed your feelings, Thorin Oakenshield. I thought we were on good terms, even friends, but apparently I was wrong. I won't bother you again for the rest of the journey."
He turns, his shoulders shaking slightly, and walks away from the dwarf without deigning to look at him again.
When Gandalf, far too amused, explains that the beautiful flowers Thorin picked and gave to Bilbo can be translated as "hatred," "contempt," and "boredom," Thorin will have to do everything he can to redeem himself in his beloved's eyes.

"Ohhhh look at me, I'm Jack Abbot, I have freckles all over my body and I'm muscular, I have curly hair and I wear tight black shirts to work BECAUSE I HAVE MUSCLES, I make gooey eyes at the hottest doctor in the hospital, I've been in a homoerotic situationship with my best friend and colleague for years, I make the blue-eyed medical student's legs tremble, I've flirted with the other hottest doctor in the hospital and I'm clearly in an on-again, off-again relationship with the other hottest doctor in the hospital. DID I ALREADY MENTION I HAVE MUSCLES?"
Dude, I'M GOING TO KIL-
"Hi Den! Robby and I won't be back for dinner tonight; the paperwork here at the hospital seems to have multiplied, and we'll be at it for a while yet. We'll grab a bite to eat on the way home. Don't stay up waiting for us!"
Dennis—who had bought new clothes specifically for their anniversary dinner, which Robby and Jack had apparently forgotten about—reading the message while already dressed to go out:
If I had a nickel for every time I was obsessed with a ship where one of the two had wavy, straw-blonde hair, was from the countryside, and was used to a quiet life before leaving home to start a new life, only to meet a traumatized, black-haired, bearded man who initially seemed to disbelieve in him, only to later prove himself to be his #1 supporter, well, I'd have 2 nickels.
Trans!Rabbot and Hung!Dennis ok bye
My favorite type of angst is Rabbot forgetting about Dennis: like, his birthday, their anniversary dinner, any date but they realize it only too late and when they get there the guy says “that’s fine” while looking at them like this:

Robby when Trinity told him about Amy:
Who is more likely to cheat?
Robby
Jack
Dennis
In my head, it's much easier to think that in Hucklerabbot, Jack is the one who hurts Dennis the most. Let me explain: Dennis knows Robby well, he sees him every day for hours and hours, he knows that the man has mood swings and can have a very sharp tongue, so when Robby gets angry with him, he simply shrugs and lets the words roll off his back, because he knows that's just how Robby is, that he'll apologize before the end of the day and that everything will be okay.
But with Jack, oh, Jack is different, because Dennis has always seen him as the nice one, the one who responds to Robby's insults and moods with sarcastic retorts, the one who winks at him from afar and always seems so... calm.
So when one day, for the first time, Dennis comes home with Robby and sleeps in their house, he doesn't expect Jack to be angry when he wakes up in the morning and sees him fresh from the night shift.
He comes up behind him, walking on tiptoe, before wrapping his arms around his body.
He almost screams when Jack whips around, pumping a fist in the air and looking at Dennis through tight lips.
He pulls back, taking two steps back and looking into the man's green eyes.
Jack's chest rises and falls rapidly before he closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. He lowers his fist, returning to heating up something to eat without deigning Dennis another glance.
“Why are you here?” he asks, sharp and mean; he's never heard him like that, with anyone, not with overly rude patients, not with Gloria.
“Uh—Robby asked me to spend the night here, and I—”
“Well, shit, I thought it was basic knowledge not to sneak up on a veteran like that, maybe I was wrong.” He almost throws the spoon into the sink, the sound of metal clattering against metal making Dennis shiver.
"Go back to bed. At least when I eat, I want to be left alone." He sits down at the table, starting to bite into his breakfast (dinner? Lunch?) before the plate even touches the table.
And Dennis stands there, like an idiot, because he knows how to behave with Robby, he's learned it by now, but Jack? He didn't expect to be treated like this, not by the man who always whispered to him how lucky they were to have found him and—
"Are you deaf or something?" he continues, his voice a little higher and hoarse.
With a squeak, Dennis turns, almost running toward the bedroom where Robby is still asleep, hiding under the covers and cuddling up to the other man like a child.
He sighs when he feels the other's arms around him, but his heart is pounding too fast for him to fall asleep; he's just happy they both have the day off.
Around lunchtime, when they've both woken up and Jack has caught up on his sleep, the silver-haired man walks into the living room yawning, sitting next to Dennis while the boy is busy reading a book.
"Hey," he whispers, putting an arm around his shoulders and kissing his cheek.
"Sorry about earlier, it was a shitty shift and I was tired. It won't happen again." He buries his nose in Dennis's curls, breathing slowly, and starts talking to Dennis again. His Jack is back.
He tries to ignore the strange feeling in his stomach, he just hopes Jack isn't lying.
Missing these idiots
Huckleabbot AU but it's "The Notebook"
"Don't you dare—" Dennis hissed, pushing the man as the first drops of the storm began to fall.
"Don't you dare make excuses, Jack Abbot, I fucking loved you, I loved you so much it hurt, and you—you abandoned me and married a woman."
He bit his lip so hard it bled, but he didn't care.
Because in front of him was the only man who had ever made his heart skip a beat, the same man who'd left behind a kiss and a promise to return only to never do so.
When Dennis saw the news in the paper of Navy Captain Jack Abbot's marriage to a woman whose name he'd never heard, he cried for hours in his room, clutching in his grief.
"I abandoned you?!" Jack asked, as a clap of thunder made Dennis jump.
“I've been writing to you for days, months! A letter a day for a whole year, and I've never received a reply!”
Jack screamed, the pouring rain soaking his hair and skin, his fists clenched in pain and anger.
“What?” Dennis asked, his words lost in the lightning and heavy raindrops.
“Are you trying to pretend I didn't do it?” Jack looked exasperated now, raising his arms before letting them fall to his sides.
“I never—” he felt his stomach tighten.
“I never got any letters.”

Vampire! Dennis × Monster Hunters! Rabbot
TW: CHARACTER DEATH AND BLOOD
“Promise me,”
He rested his cold, pale cheek against the man's chest. His eyes, blood-red, stared into space, while he traced small circles above Jack's collarbone with a finger.
“If I ever lose control, if I ever try to hurt you,”
The vampire shifted his gaze to the man, his sharp, white teeth peeking out from his lips.
“You'll kill me, you won't think twice about driving a stake through my heart.” The boy's hand stopped, as did time around them.
Jack and Robby had been doing this job for years, traveling all over the country in search of those so-called blood-sucking monsters, killing more than they could count.
Of course, after thirty years of career, they hadn't expected to encounter a wounded and alone vampire in a castle, deciding to spare him for no apparent reason, and falling in love with him in the process.
And now there they were, in that large four-poster bed, Robby snoring softly beside them as the two whispered.
"Why are you asking me?" Jack asked, running his thumb over those red lips, leaning his head to kiss them, unable to suppress the urge.
"Because I know Robby, he would never hurt me, but you—" He rose on his elbows, moving even closer to the man.
"You love that man more than your own life, and even though I know you care about me, you would never let anything happen to him." He kissed Jack, his tongue caressing the man's.
"Do you promise me?" He asked, fluttering those long, perfect eyelashes, his blond curls falling softly over his forehead, and one hand slowly slipping under the covers, caressing Jack's inner thigh.
"Yes." He replied, his voice hoarse and his stomach heavy, hoping that nightmare would never come.
Sadly, God had never been good at listening to his prayers.
It happened only a few months later. A storm trapped them inside that gloomy castle; drifts and drifts of snow had piled up outside the gates, making it impossible for anyone to get out.
Dennis tried, at first, transforming into a small bat and emerging from one of the windows, trying to reach the nearest village to call for help, but the strong winds wouldn't allow him to get more than a mile from the fortress.
Fortunately, Jack and Robby were prudent, always keeping plenty of food supplies to survive situations like that.
Unfortunately, there was no other living soul for Dennis to drink blood from within those four walls.
It started slowly: he grew increasingly restless, angry, snapping at the slightest thing. He lingered longer and longer to sniff the two men, a thread of drool dripping from his lip.
And Jack prayed, silently, before God, that Dennis would hold on, that the sun would return to melt the snow and allow the vampire to find some animal to draw blood from.
But the sun never came.
And Jack had always been good at keeping his promises.
So, when one night, Dennis, delirious and hungry, his eyes even redder than usual, his canines even sharper, and his fingernails as sharp as razor blades, tried to grab Robby, shouting words neither man could understand, Jack moved before he could even think.
One second, he was beside his husband, trying to reason with Dennis.
The next, he was holding the boy's body in his arms, his hand gripping a wooden stake driven right into the center of the vampire's chest.
Blood gushed out, pitch black, soaking both men's clothes. Not a fly dared to make a noise in the castle.
Dennis coughed blood, wetting his lips and face. For a moment, his eyes turned blue. In his agony, he managed a smile.
"Thank you." He gurgled, his mouth full of black liquid, as his body began to come apart in Jack's hands.
In an instant, the body was gone. Only blood and gray ash remained where the boy had been.
Robby screamed, grabbing Jack by the shirt, shaking him and asking him why, telling him they could have talked some sense into him, telling him he'd never forgive him.
And as Robby spat venom at him and the blood on his clothes and hands began to dry, something occurred to Jack.
He'd forgotten to tell Dennis he loved him.
This is my favorite one btw
Dennis kissing Robby's wrinkles, Robby kissing Jack's freckles and Jack kissing Dennis's moles-
