I am once again begging people to realize that AI checker doesn’t work. it’s never worked. it’s notoriously known to have flagged human-made works as AI and AI-generated works as human-made. and by feeding it people’s works, you are feeding more works to AI, because apparently the machine itself is AI.
the only thing AI checker does is harm genuine artists and people in general too.

NGL the conflation of De-Aging and Age Regression on AO3 is very frustrating to me as a person because I love both of those tropes but they are NOT the same thing.
Sending this in on their support page (thank you to @penpalpixie for helping me figure out what's even possible on compsci side of things).
Hello!
At this time, the tags "De-Aging" and "Age Regression" are coupled together as "Age Regression/De-Aging" and treated as synonyms (re: they are in the "tags with the same meaning" section).
They do not mean the same thing, and it makes it difficult to find one without ending up with a search full of the other. While some members of the userbase use them interchangeably, they are fundamentally NOT the same thing. I was told by a friend that this issue was previously set aside because some people do use them interchangeably, but I believe the current status of the synonym tags section indicates that a great number of authors do not.
De-Aging: a physical reduction in age, using magic or science fiction. May or may not include a mental component. A canon example would be when the pirate Jewelry Bonney turns adult characters into physical babies and toddlers.
Age Regression: a mental reduction in age, sometimes through magic or scifi, but often through normal means, most often as a psychological reaction to traumas, or as a form of play. May or may not include a physical component. Often overlaps with Age Play (both sexual and non-sexual).
May I suggest retiring the main tag (removing it from the suggested list while leaving it intact structurally), introducing 'Physical and Mental De-Aging' for those new fics that include both, and then have the individual tags canonized as their own independent tags? So suggested tags would be "De-Aging," "Age Regression," and possibly "Physical and Mental De-Aging" as a child tag of De-Aging.
This is especially frustrating since the synonyms section include tags like "Physical De-Aging" "mental disability - age regression" "baby headspace" and "Adult Physically & Mentally Transformed into a Child," all of which mean different things and seem to be clear attempts to clarify to readers that they mean one but not the other, or do mean both, but since the tagging structure insists on conflating them, they need to clarify to readers what exactly is contained within.
The fact that these various detailed freeform tags exist at all are a sign that authors are desperately trying to assert that difference to help readers find what they're looking for even if SOME people use them interchangeably.
I apologize if I come across as overly harsh, but I love these tropes, both apart and together, and am far from the only person to be frustrated that the tag structure AO3 has implemented makes it harder to find what I'm looking for.
KPDH AU where Zoemira are both Rumi's exes but they start dating each other. Then Rumi meets a coupled up Zoemira at the bar. Rumi still has feelings for Zoemira, but she's in her own head about it. Did you hear about how scientists are experimenting with gene splicing? I heard that they're trying to splice a crab and cheetah together. That could go sideways real fast.

I want a story about a king whose son is prophesied to kill him so the king is like “whatever what am I supposed to do, kill my own kid wtf is wrong with you” so he just raises him as normal, doesn’t even tell him about the prophecy, and instead of some convoluted twist of events that leads to the king’s murder the son grows up and when the king is very old and dying and in excruciating pain the kid is just like alright I'mma put him out of his misery.
The king’s son becomes the new king, and is prophesied to defeat evil and bring an age of prosperity. His generals and knights all crack their knuckles but he pretty much ignores them and focuses on strengthening the infrastructure of his kingdom. Forty years later he is old and sick but still hearing his subjects’ grievances, and a general’s like “how will you defeat the prophesied evil now? You’re old and weak.” Another visitor, a teenager fresh out of the kingdom’s public education system, looks at the general like he is an ignoramus. The king eradicated poverty, housed the homeless, taught the ignorant, ended class exploitation by abolishing the nobility and imprisoning the corrupt, and established a highly respected guild of doctors that recently figured out how to cure the plague. There are no brigands because there is enough wealth for everyone to live comfortably; hiding in the woods and taking trinkets from people simply doesn’t make any sense for anyone but the desperate, and the people are not desperate. Evil is a weed, explains the teenager. It grows in cracked roads and crumbling houses and forgotten corners, rooted in indifference and watered by suffering. But the king demands that broken things be mended and suffering people be made well.
No evil lives in this kingdom, says the teenager. It starved to death before I was born.
Every once in a while, when I’m feeling down, I go and look at the notes on this post and they make me feel a lot better. This is the energy I want to carry into 2018.
I know the fandom wants polytrix to have all girls but them having mostly boys makes me laugh too hard bc
1. This boys would raise the standard for men across multiple countries
2. Them probably being bi disasters like (most) of their moms
3. Them doing drag versions of their moms lip syncing to golden or one of their other songs
4. The boy who looks the most like Mira is literally her without ever feeling the need to play aloof or nonchalant so he's just the biggest sweetheart ever and Zoerumi tease Mira about it for years~
5. They do at least have one daughter and the boys treat her like most siblings with bickering and teasing, but if someone says ANYTHING disrespectful about their sister they will throw hands
6. I just really want Polytrix to raise big goofball theater boys who respect women

Speaking of time loops, I've been playing in Stars and Time (again) and I firmly believe that that every time loop story is a stealth horror story and obviously in the sense of being trapped in a loop you don't know how to escape, every action and interaction becoming more and more meaningless (the people around you becoming less and less real)
(How could they be real when they say the same things? When you can pull their strings and see how they dance?)
(It's a show, a performance. Play your part, say your lines.)
But I'm also thinking about the horror of after.
So consider Celine, who, for some reason, got trapped in a time loop. And she got out. And she wanted to get out, she so desperately wanted to get out that she --
Look, she's not media illiterate.
She knows how time loops go in fiction. The nihilism, the depression, the suicide attempts that are always (always) softed by humor.
She knows now why the movies always end after the looping does. Because getting out means living with what you did to get out.
Every attempt. The normal ones where she tried to be nice to everyone, the ones where she hurt everyone around her and her girls never wanted to see her again (the words hurt but they mean nothing. how could they when they would never remember saying them, would never remember what she did?), the ones where she just did nothing and watched as the world ended.
Getting out means living with the person you became to get out.
(Celine supposes she's lucky she only has to live with killing --. Even when nothing mattered, when everything would be erased, she wouldn't have to live with knowing what it felt like to slide a blade through her daughter ward.)
(Small mercies.)
So it ends. And if the girls are weirded out that their typically stoic mentor starts crying and hugging them like they'll disappear well... the Idol Awards were a rough time for everyone, they reason.
But after, Celine thinks about who she became. About the parts of herself she didn't know existed (never wanted to know existed.) (She knows now that she's unbearably selfish.) (She knows now that, pushed far enough, she would sacrifice the entire world to Gwi-ma.) (She knows now that if needed, she could kill Mira and Zoey in less than two minutes.)
(Knows that no matter how often she claims to care for the girls equally, it isn't true.)
(But she's always known that, hasn't she?)
(She knows the quickest way to cut her own throat. The most painless way, the way that makes the loop restart the fastest.)
("Is Celine, you know, okay?" Mira asks.
Rumi gives a helpless shrug. "Has she ever been okay?"
It's supposed to come out as flippant. It doesn't. They're worried about their mentor even though she tells them that everything is fine.
Every iteration of, "I'm fine, girls. Don't worry about me" makes them worry more.)
One of the most jarring moments of my university education was in a physics class when I was given a device that measures gravity and was told “this cost the university sixteen thousand dollars, but the only glass blower in the world who could make the glass springs inside it died so it’s literally irreplaceable. If you drop it those springs will shatter. Go fuck around with it for a day and take some measurements”
In the UK there's a thing called the endangered crafts list which I highly recommend if you fancy discovering some crafts you never even knew existed. Scientific and optical instrument making is considered 'critically endangered' and glassworking (scientific glassware) is just considered endangered, which is for 'crafts with a shrinking market share, an ageing demographic or crafts with a declining number of practitioners.' There's some other crafts in that category which are easier to teach yourself or go to classes on that list, like lithography, marbling or block printing on fabric, so it might be worth considering those if you're looking for something to try.
College couple Mira and Rumi passing notes to each other through Zoey who sits between them during lectures except they're literally talking about how cute and adorable she is and how much they want her.
Zoey doesn't dare read the notes because that's weird and Rumi and Mira always make sure she sits between them. Even when Zoey tries to switch places so they're together, they refuse.
It confuses her but she's not complaining, even though being between two super gorgeous women has her little heart gay panicking to all hell.
One day she accidentally gets a glimpse of what's being said in the notes and she almost dies on the spot because there's no way.
"It's not me, it's some other Zoey. It has to be."
Mira and Rumi face palming because goddamnit her obliviousness and denial just makes her cuter. It's frustrating and distracting. They're trying. Stop.
The notes become increasingly frantic.
"I THINK ZOEY IS SO CUTE. THE ZOEY WHO SITS BETWEEN US IN EVERY LECTURE , THAT ONE> THAT SPECIFIC ZOEY. NO OTHER ZOEY."
Zoey remains oblivious or in denial.
Mira decided it is time for drastic action. The next note is large. It is on bright yellow paper with a terrible drawing on it.
Was walking my dog downtown and he stopped to drink from a dog bowl in front of a bar and I was like “Oh, are you a thirsty little boy?” And a grown-ass man sitting there said “i guess I am,” as he took a sip of his beer and then he realized I was not talking to him and looked completely horrified

Rumi: (upon realizing the muffins she ate an hour ago had an absolute fuck ton of weed in them) Oh no.
Mira: Okay! Okay! Don't panic! Can you make yourself throw up?
Rumi: HOW? I DON'T HAVE A GAG REFLEX?!
Mira: Shit. Okay look I'll couch you through it. I've done weed before. I just need to get on your level. (Grabs two high dose weed shots) These will react faster but have a similar effect and they're the same dosage. This way we can ride the dragon together.
Rumi: How does that help me in any way?
Mira: Because this way you won't be going through it alone. (already unwrapping one of them) Trust me.
Rumi: This does not install trust. This does the opposite. I'm starting to think you just want to get very very stoned.
Mira: (grimacing from the shot) ugh that tastes nasty but anything for you, Rumi!
Rumi: This is a dumb. This is a dumb plan.
Mira: (downs the other one) Alright let's fucking go! Don't worry Rumi, I got you! We can ride the lightning together!
Rumi: This has not reassured me in the slightest. In fact I feel the exact opposite of reassured.
Mira: Trust me, I got you.
(one hour later)
Zoey: guys I'm home- what the fuck?
Mira: (holding Rumi's teddy bear wrapped in a weighted blanket) Zoey? Is it really you? After all these years? I was alone for so long.
Zoey: I was gone for two hours. Where's Rumi?
Mira: (shaking her head) I lost her long ago.
Zoey: (about to panic then hears Rumi's snore from under a blanket next to Mira)
Mira: Sometimes I can still hear her. (wipes at eyes)
