I get that the plots aren’t line for line the same but John Wick lost his ENTIRE shit about his dog and goes on a one man killing spree and everyone’s like oh he’s so hot 🥵 and cool 😎 women want him and men want to be him etc

But a traumatized young woman with superpowers lays waste to a bunch of human traffickers and suddenly the dudebros are out in force acting like the movie is bad! It’s a good movie! It’s well shot, well directed, well acted! It’s no culture-changer I think but the cinematography is nice and the shots are banging! It’s a fun movie! I thought it was adorable actually! Especially that bit where she stabs a sex trafficker, Kara Zor El the woman that you are

God forbid a woman be raw and messy and furious and imperfect.

We’ve got dozens of shitty superhero flicks and no one bats an eye but one ☝️ superhero movie starring a woman and suddenly it’s the worst thing ever and feminism ruins everything.

I'm really glad to see Peach-Pit head-on tackle a different type of perspective on would-be selves. Especially since this chapter confirmed for me what I believe Arcana academy has been doing.

It's also really refreshing to see a new type of foil to Amu. Where both Amu and Kurumu come from a place of wanting to change who they were, but shows how the environment influences them.

Amu, in Seiyo, has been in a place of support, open-mindedness and exploration of self, where she can reveal different sides of herself. She tries and fails to be seen for who she really is, even though she's not entirely sure who that is either. Amu ultimately learns that who ever she is and whoever she will be, she'll be loved and in good hands.

Whereas Kurumu has unfortunately been in Arcana where she felt her value only lied in the presence of her Shugo Chara. Like many others, she feared that not having it means that she is no longer special and would be kicked out. Motivated by fear and insecurity, Kurumu would rather take someone else's egg, someone else's identity in order to have that feeling of worth.

Leading to a growing cycle of self-hatred that has been touched in Shugo Chara (like in my last post) but never fully explored. I'm glad they are because I think Peach-Pit has decided to show the line they draw a very clear and decisive line of when wanting to change is healthy and unhealthy.

And this opens a lot of exploration of identity, dreams, and fulfillment. What does it mean to try on new identities? What does it mean for your sense of self? When is it healthy? When is it unhealthy? How do we differentiate when someone else's greatness helps us grow or spiral? What do you want? Or are you ok with not knowing?

And tbh I have missed how Kurumu sort of follows some of the dark magical girl tropes that sort of go into soap opera territory (if I'm correct about the direction it COULD go into)
