Day 1 of food and drinks in Puerto Rico!
Where: Boquerón, Cabo Rojo
Pika Pika - Our first meal of the trip, we stopped at Pika Pika. The food reminded me of standard Mexican food we would find at home in NY -- solid/good, but nothing particularly special.
Street food - Fresh raw oysters were awesome! We stayed at the Parador Boqueron and there were oyster and skewer stands just on street! 12 oysters for $5? Yes, please! Skewers (chicken, pork, shark) were $2.50 each. Further down the street, we came across a stand selling these "famous" cod fish pancakes, basically seasoned batter mixed with cod fish. It's pretty good for the first few bites, but after that it gets really greasy really fast. Definitely really interesting and worth trying!
Seaside - For dinner, our group of 20+ crowded into this small restaurant for seafood/a lot of fried food! They had a wings special so a lot of people ordered wings, as well as calamari. In particular, I liked their fried fish nuggets and a friend and i ordered what I thought was going to be a fillet, but ended being an entire red snapper fried.
Nightlife and Oja - In addition to late night oysters and skewers, Boquerón offers a bunch of lively bars and people easily wander the streets (or should I say, street singular), hopping from bar to bar, since everything is in close proximity. In particular, we really liked this one bar called Oja where we got $1 nutella and cheesecake shots, as well as $5 flavored mojitos. Great deal for a relaxing night out with friends!
