Watched a documentary about abuse and advice one guy said to give children was, "Tell them that if someone is hurting them, to tell someone - and don't just tell one person. Tell as many people as possible, and keep telling as many people as possible until the abuse stops." and i really liked that
Bc so many ppl focus on the idea of telling A Trusted Adult, but even a well-meaning individual can fuck up and let abuse fall through the cracks or not know what to do
Whereas if a child tells LOADS of adults AND other kids, there's far less opportunity for an abuser to do damage control
Consistently telling their story and spreading it around disempowers the abuser to control and coerce the flow of information, or to utilise gaps and weaknesses in systems of reporting or welfare to isolate the child
Just really good advice. Not suprised I don't hear it more often.
Some of you never realized most disabled people have to pay to be able to walk or move around. Like big money payments. The kind that makes people become poor or homeless.

250 years and most native tribal groups continue to not be federally recognized. Embarrassing!
Hey so a small thing that literally everyone who sees this is capable of is correcting any βused toβ statements about native people in this country.
βNative people used to live in this National Parkβ No. They still do.
βNative people used to tell these stories-β No. They still do.
βNative people used to use this plant as a natural remedy-β No. They still do.
Better yet, familiarize yourself with the tribes local to you. Odds are, they do not yet have federal recognition. You can still read the stories they have to share, you can share their ongoing battle for recognition with others, you can sign petitions and spread the word to others to do so as well. But do something.

Shout out to all the Black ppl that can no longer participate directly in the fandom they love because of the stresses of racism ππΎ you contain multitudes of value and I'm sorry that the color of your skin and the power of your voice makes people not want to acknowledge that.
Yes, nonblack people can reblog. I'd appreciate it, in fact, if y'all took the time to vocally support your Black friends/fans in fandom.
per anonβs request, i present to you THE best version of beatriceβs monologue in much ado about nothing. i thought about cropping this but decided this scene must be watched in its full glory
Whatβs really cool about this is this is the first version of this scene that Iβve seen where the tone doesnt whiplash wildly which is so hard to do!!! Bc itβs a scene that comes directly after some rough public shaming and it is both a love confession scene and a scene where a woman asks someone to kill someone and the love confession IS funny but Beatriceβs monologue is not. A lot of the other versions- even well beloved ones like the 2011 version with David Tennant and Catherine Tate- do this scene and there is emotional whiplash, audiences often laughing when Beatrice begs Benedict to kill Claudio. To see it done this way??? Oh my god the line read on βif a were a man, I would eat his heart in the marketplaceβ DESERVED that cheet
i agree so much about making your blorbos pathetic but i do fear that many take this to mean 'make them more traditionally feminine/submissive' which genuinely hurts my soul. make your blorbos pathetic in interesting character-oriented ways. understand their neuroses and turn the dials up to eleven. juxtapose the parts of life they handle extremely well with the parts of their lives that make them eat shit. make them angry. make them cold. make them pave their own way to hell while building walls preventing them from seeing any other way. please i'm begging you no more pathetic as an euphemism for bottoming im gonna mclose it.
has anyone noticed that sometimes you take incorrect or undesirable actions instead of the correct and desirable ones? what's up with that

Happy Juneteenth btw. Nothing else is happening today
The fact that people were genuinely angry at me for this post will never not be funny
It's common knowledge by now that West Asian and African ppl made up a sizable chunk of the population of ancient Hellas. This can be found in the texts of Herodotus, Homer, Heraclitus and in few surviving pieces of art; like the Minoan frescoes, bronze statues and vase paintings. And the one surviving bust of Memnon.
It's also common knowledge by now that churches tried to erase all traces of a "mixed" population by destroying most of the statues that depicted these ppl. Especially black Greek ppl. In a similar way Northwestern Europeans took our statues and bleached them. Why I am certain of that? Let's take Delos as an example. Delos was a religious centre, but it wasn't exclusively pandering to those who believed in the Pantheon.
In fact, what we see there is that both Eastern and Southern cultures celebrated similar or parallel forms of gods. Delos was specifically known for the worship of moon and sun gods. Those who worshipped Artemis could do so next to someone who worshipped Isis and someone who worshipped Tanit. Please feel free to Google this, I grew up there.
"Stop perpetuating the myth that we were black" gurl who hurt you. The existence of people with darker skin than yours doesn't erase you. Please calm down. We're not here to hurt you.

yearly required reading
Oh you see the world in black and white? Fuck you get dithered
what are we doing this year. how are we celebrating. is it fireworks? is it fireworks in the middle of the city? is it fighter jet flyovers? are we celebrating with a 26% increase in drunk driving fatalities? what operations is the military conducting today, untelevised?
or maybe it's just a classic family barbecue: where the men drink beer and the women are sent inside to cook and clean. maybe this holiday really does represent unity: from the most racist uncle in south carolina to a stars-and-stripes-themed drag show in seattle, everyone can come together to appreciate the luxury their country creates for them at the expense of the rest of the world. they can both look up as the fighter jets fly over, and they can cheer or they can complain about the noise but they have never known bombs in their own country and they'll have forgotten the planes in five minutes.
who will die of heat, in this heatwave manufactured by decades of coal and industry and luxurious imperial growth? will we watch the world cup, and pan over a flag-draped crowd who paid $1000 a seat and more on travel? will we grumble about trump but allow ourselves one patriotic moment for the men's team? we won't need to televise the houses bulldozed to make the highways to the stadiums, and the homeless outside of them dying in wet-bulb heat. they'll write "happy fourth" on their cardboard signs by the highway, hoping someone will be kinder for it, but no one will.
are we singing the anthem? are we standing for the flag? what are we doing this year. how are we celebrating.
