BUT! It was drastically different than the House version (not better, just a different kind of fucked,) which means that it has to go to reconciliation.

That’s where delegations from the House and Senate (in this case pretty much comprised entirely of the GOP fuckwits who started this mess) have to sit down and make a single combined bill out of the two steaming piles of elephant dung that are the bills the House and Senate passed.

Then they both have to vote on it again. They don’t have a lot of time before their holiday legislative break, so this coming week is crucial.

So don’t give up hope just yet; the fight has gotten harder, but it isn’t over yet.

Make this week a living hell for every Senator & Representative who has supported this. Flood them with phone calls, make the switchboard sing. Channel Alexander Hamilton and bury them I letters. Visit your Congresscrittet’s local offices if you can. Whatever you can do to make sure that they know that we see what they are doing and they will be held accountable.

Like, the terror that drives fallout isn’t its gritty post-apocalyptic aesthetic, it’s the atrocities of the culture that led to the war in the first place. All those personal stories you find buried in the pieces of lore you stumble across. It’s the blind nationalism and xenophobia, the internment camps, the mcarthyism, the bloated military industrial complex, the systematic dismantling of corporate regulations to the point where companies could perform psychological and chemical experiments on the public consequence free, etc etc etc.
