Being drunk vs Being high
i saw this on twitter and i cant stop thinking about it cuz its literally mania vs depressionÂ
#itâs funny cuz they are both going through it
@watuare one of them is me. One of them is you
Iâm definitely the hype one.
What a remarkable woman.
Wholesome
I will never be over this. EVER.
pls donât let this flop
doofenshmirtzâs mental process i think
Full time work should entitle someone to enough pay for rent, food, bills, and leisure activities. Full time work for a full life wage. You put in your 8 hours a day, 5 days a week? You should be able to afford the basic shit you need in life, no matter where you work.
pisses me off that this is considered a radical statement.
I do agree with this but from economic standpoint if you are working at a job like McDonalds as someone flipping burgers and making fries you are getting paid for the amount of skill needed for the job. But if its any other job that requires you to have an actual skill that you can make a career out of then yeah you should be getting paid enough to live a standard life.
If you work FULL TIME you should be able to afford to fucking live. No, it doesnât matter if itâs flipping burgers, these people contribute to our fucking economy and they MATTER. They should be allowed to be alive.
Jesus fucking Christ do you people hear yourselves?
People like this are why we canât move on to issues like reducing how many hours is full time, or working out UBI. Weâre going to need to do that. Most people just donât know whatâs coming down the pipeline, without a major change to the structure of the economy, weâre looking at large scale permanent unemployment, even in the âskilledâ labor force.
Also? Making food is a fucking skill. Running a fast food kitchen is a fucking skill. Operating a drive-thru is a goddamn fucking skill.
I do not know how to do these things. I have a masters degree and I have no fucking clue how to operate a deep fryer or make coffee drinks. Iâd probably not be very good at it, because that kind of hands-on, fast-paced work is very hard for me.
But thankfully, there are people who are good at it, so I can do my job, and they can do theirs, and we can benefit one another by putting our skills to use in different areas. People who work in fast food are not less deserving of comfort and security in their lives just because their skills arenât valued like they should be. That is a myth developed to deprive people of rights.
My friend works as a medical assistant and Iâve worked at McDonaldâs and Starbucks. You know thereâs a lot of things you gotta learn in this typa job?
Like in addition to it being physically demanding (standing up for 4-6 hours straight, carrying heavy ice/coffee, constantly getting burned by boiling water and an oven, a lot of reaching and squatting (like a lot a lot I lost 40 FUCKING pounds in a year okay this job demands a lot from the body)), there are actual skills required. Also your skin splits from using so much antibacterial soap.
Do you know what temperature different foods have to be to prevent contamination? If itâs a âcoldâ or âhotâ plate?? Do You know how long food can be out before bacterial contamination can happen?? Do you know the difference between say 1% and heavy whipping cream? Can you teach a chemistry class using milk????? Thatâs p much what you gotta learn to be able to do. My friend who works as a medic was surprised, because I do more in my day than they do, and THEY told me that. They were shocked how much I actually do; I am on my feet more, talking to more people, I have a working knowledge of food germs food born illnesses and chemistry, I gotta do the same shit with sterilizing my tools the same exact way a doctor sterilizes theirs. Etc etc.
Thereâs no such thing as an unskilled job. There are only undervalued skills.

no bro
you really donât
not at fucking
all
It appears absolutely no one realizes this character (assuming this story takes places during the time in which it was filmed) grew up during The Troubles of Northern Ireland.
You donât if heâs Northern Irish. You donât know if heâs Catholic. You donât know if he grew up watching his people get murdered by Loyalist Protestants and British soldiers who carried heavy racial prejudice against Irish Catholics (hellooo, Bloody Sunday anyone?), who had for centuries been characterized as barbaric, racially inferior, lowly people who needed to be wiped out or converted. Attacks by the IRA, and therefore retaliation by the British, didnât completely cease until 1998, I believe? This film came out in 2002.
You donât know if he was an Irishman who grew up in England. Bomb attacks carried out by the IRA in England kindled misplaced aggression toward innocent Irish civilians living among the English population and Irish people were verbally and physically attacked and their businesses targeted. Perhaps similar to how ordinary Muslims bear the brunt of aggression after attacks by Muslim extremistsâŚ
You can still find yourself threatened and demeaned if youâre a Catholic in Northern Ireland or if youâre a Protestant in Ireland and some older dude in a pub in a smaller town straight up asks you if youâre Catholic or not and youâre afraid whatâll happen if you donât lie about who you are.
You can still hear casual racism toward Irish people in everyday life and in publicly broadcast media in the UK.
You can still see and hear âKill All Irishâ and other pretty heavy anti-Irish sentiment among Loyalists in Northern Ireland who donât consider themselves Irish at all.
Just because it now appears that the island of Ireland has been allowed to move on from war and their appearance and culture generally allows them to blend into and reap the benefits of the White European demographic doesnât mean that this character does not have the background suitable to fully empathize with her. Maybe he does, maybe he doesnât, we just donât know his story.
But I guess youâve never been demeaned as a Paddy or a Taig so you wouldnât understand what it feels like, would you?
donât worry dude itâs tumblr the mentality here is basically âif youâre lighter than a coconut youâre not allowed to have any feelings and your life is automatically perfect but thatâs not racist at all bc your skin is lighter than someone elseâs and that means itâs okâ
^^^^^^^^
not enough upward pointies in the world
plot twist: being Irish actually sucks, seriously
I normally donât comment on posts like these but the ignorance of this makes me so fucking angry because absolutely no one in the world seems to give a shit about the Irish because we all just seem to be so happy and drunk all the time. Because theyâre white, right? So obviously they have no idea what hardship means.
*bursts in* *breathes heavily* Did someone mention the Northern Irish Troubles
First of all, pretty much yes to everything about Ireland up there. Growing up in Northern Ireland, I saw the violence from all sides - my father is a British Protestant and my mother is a Catholic, so I basically couldnât win because according to one side I was a dirty taig and according to the other I was a filthy hun. Luckily I managed to make friends with a mix of both Catholics and Protestants who all thought this attitude was just as stupid as I did, but between all of us, we saw our fair share of sectarian violence, and the Catholics, without a doubt, got it worse.
Irish Catholics were robbed of their country by Protestant invaders centuries ago. They fought and fought and eventually got the Irish Free State (now the Republic of Ireland), however, thanks to the deliberate plantation of Protestants to eradicate the Catholic majority in the North, it was left under British rule. Since then, Catholics have been murdered, arrested, terrorised, tortured and driven out of their houses just for being Irish Catholics.Â
I moved from Northern Ireland in 2010 and to the day I left, the violence was not over. I couldnât wear certain colours in certain areas because I would be beaten. I had fake names depending on where I was stopped, as attackers can determine what religion you are from your name alone (and this is a trick I learned, too, for defence). I can recite my rights if Iâm arrested because if I was stopped in certain areas I could be, on the assumption I could be Catholic. I know the subtle sectarian geography of the city of Belfast because if I cross the road in the wrong place Iâm in enemy territory. I have been chased by a group of forty people, throwing fireworks at me, because they assumed I was a Catholic. Police were parked on nearby streets and didnât acknowledge the commotion. My friends and I walk past graffiti screamed âKill All Taigsâ. A fifteen year old boy who lived half an hour from me was beaten to death by a group of adults for being Catholic. For fifty years, people have been detained without trial, tortured, beaten and wrongly imprisoned just for being Catholic, because apparently, being Catholic means you must be in the IRA.Â
Even now, I canât escape it. I have a noticeable Northern Irish accent, which is stronger when Iâm around people from there and is noticeable as a strong accent whenever Iâm not in the country. At airports, Iâm always the one stopped and frisked if they hear my accent. At ferry ports, itâs alway my car (which has Northern Irish registration plates) thatâs ârandomly selectedâ for a search. All of this just happened to me, a person who got off lightly.
If you think that Irish people havenât faced oppression and abuse, youâre wrong. If you think that Northern Ireland is past its troubles, youâre wrong. It sickens me that this happens only a few hundred miles away from England and no one acknowledges it exists, because hey, theyâre just some terrorist Catholics, right?
Contrary to popular belief, racism isnât America centric. Just ask the Serbians and Croatians.
REBLOGGING FOR THE LAST ONE JFC THANK YOU.
Hell, ask Rwanda. Plot twist: ethnic genocide involving no white people at all!
Ask China about Japan. Ask Tibet about China. Ask Kuwait about Iraq. Ask Ukraine about Russia.
Xenophobia is not just the purview of white people. Any other can be an enemy. They can be the same colour. They can share a religion. They can live right next door right up until the moment the blade or gun or bomb is in your hand.
By the way, the woman who wrote and directed Bend it like Beckham? Sheâs a Brit of Indian descent. Iâm fairly sure she knows what itâs like to be from an oppressed ethnic group in the UK, so when she writes a line about Asian and Irish people being treated similarly in British society, you better believe she knows what sheâs talking about first hand.
Because newsflash, American forms of racism and ethnic prejudice are not universal.

Dollyâs absolute amazingness aside⌠She is who she wants to be, and shows herself as she wants to. Anyone who sees her as a joke is in fact the joke themselves and Iâm quite happy to laugh at them.
The real joke is that sheâs the one finding it, not the government.
She purposely does this, yâall. I have been fascinated by her for years and she has purposely crafted this and people reacting like this is her intention. She is a master. Like, how many country artists can get away with openly being a queer ally and funding AIDS research and COVID research and all this other stuff and yet still I defy you to find a personâno matter how conservativeâwho will say anything worse than âsheâs trashyâ to youâbut it canât even insult her because she says sheâs trashy!! She is so good at this yâall. A master at the whole concept of reclaiming and owning oneâs image. All hail Dolly.
An American icon. A hero.
âMad women fight backâ; âBet your ass weâre paranoidâ - Psychiatric survivors during a protest in 1976
the woman on the right is Saralinda Grimes, and I believe that this photo may have been taken at the June 29âJuly 29, 1976 sleep-in in the office of California Governor Jerry Brown enacted by members of Network Against Psychiatric Assault and Women Against Psychiatric Assault, documented in Madness Network News 4, no. 1 (1976). I welcome correction.
in her own words, Saralinda Grimes was a âdeaf Native American lesbian feministâ (Madness Network News 4, no. 3 [1977], 9). she was active with Women Against Psychiatric Assault.
(Saralinda Grimes was Cherokee)
Part of my roadtrip tool me to Atlanta. And, the Civil Rights Center was amazing. Very powerful. They have this one exhibit where you sit at a lunch counter and close your eyes and put on headphones. And It plays sounds like you are at a sit in and people are yelling. And it times how long you can sit there for. I think i lasted almost a minute before i was almost crying.
ItâŚmade its point.
And most of those people were being physically assaulted too
Thatâs a brilliant exhibit
If you make it long enough, the chair actually shakes a little, along with the sound of someone hitting the chair with a bat. It was super intense. (It included a trigger warning for obvious reasons.)
Whatâs the address of this place? Itâs now on my bucket list
100 IVAN ALLEN JR. BLVD Its right next to the aquarium and world of coca cola.
Whatâs also really great is thereâs an attendant too. If a person gets overwhelmed or has a panic attack the attendant will sit with them, console them, and give them tissues. AKA guess what happened to me when I used the headphonesÂ
This is one of my favorite museums of all time. Last time I went there was an older couple (white girl and black guy) who I watched sit through it, and at the end they were crying and she hugged him, saying âIâm so sorry I wasnât there with youâ
Cudjo Lewis, the last surviving captive of the last slave ship to bring Africans to the U.S.Â
https://www.history.com/news/zora-neale-hurston-barracoon-slave-clotilda-survivor?utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter#link_time=1525373347
Itâs so significant too that this narrative was collected by Zora Neale Hurston, one of the greatest authors and anthropologists of her time. She was shunned by the âgatekeepersâ of both of these professions, largely because of her Blackness, her womanhood, and her uncompromising commitment to honoring and showcasing both in her works. She died penniless and alone in a state-run institution in 1960. All of her works had gone out of publication by then. It took more than a decade before she was rediscovered. A young author by the name of Alice Walker had come across her work and was deeply inspired by it. âIn 1973, after an exhaustive search, Walker came across Hurstonâs unmarked grave in Ft. Pierce, Fla. She purchased a headstone for Hurstonâs tomb and had it inscribed âA Genius of the South.ââ
It is through Zora Neale Hurstonâs pioneering sacrifice, and the acceptance of that inheritance by Alice Walker that we have found this missing piece of our history. Without the courageous and unfailing work of Black women, we wouldnât have Cudjo Lewisâs story. We are slowly regaining a narrative thatâs been hidden from us, one that continues to be lied about. Trust Black women to lead the way.

i need you out there to hear this.
sometimes your abuser didnât mean to abuse you.
they still abused you.
sometimes your abuser was doing the best they could. their best wasnât enough. it was harmful. it was cruel.
they may not have known better. they may not have realized the effects of their behaviors and actions and words and choices. they may not have had that understanding.
it may have been how they were raised.
it may have been normalized for them.
they still abused you.
itâs not the intent but the effect that matters. their differing perspective or altered recollection does not change what was done. to you.Â
your abuser may have changed over the years. they may have learned better, or calmed down, or heard you and realized they hurt you.
they still hurt you.
âi didnât mean toâ âthat wasnât how i saw it/meant it/remember itâ âitâs how i was treated and i was fineâ âi tried, i didnât know better, i did my bestâ âthat was so long ago and iâve changedâ
these are explanations at most generous, excuses in bald face.
donât confuse them for apology. for amends. for repentance or changing of ways.
explanation, excuse, context. they frame a situation, but they donât rewrite it.
forgiveness is your choice. yours only. you donât owe it. itâs only healing or worth a damn at all if itâs what you choose, what you need. frankly, forgiveness isnât even earned. itâs yours to give or not, based on whatever standard is right to you.
but if youâre looking to give forgiveness to the sorry, make sure theyâre saying sorry, and not just explaining themselves.Â
theyâre not the same thing.
make sure theyâre not trying to explain that, in fact, they didnât abuse you at all, because of their perspective, because of context.
your scars donât get erased in the right slant of light.
gollums loincloth is like 2 inches of toilet paper and heâs hopping around like disneys quasimodo doing acrobatics and we as an audience are narrowly spared from seeing his peepee but you cannot you CANNOT argue that sam and frodo didnt see it at least once!! they didnât want to but they didnât have things like camera angles to save them they probably saw gollums swinging little meat sack a hundred times and both of them just decided to never ever mention it
did they decide to never ever mention it or are they talking about it constantly every time the camera cuts away? we the audience get to decide and thatâs why i think fiction is so powerful
The movies and books are based on Frodoâs own accounts of his adventures. Itâs highly likely that Gollum never actually wore a loincloth and Frodo added it for our own protection
Watch: Â Chicago woman had some great responses to a white manâs disturbing racist attacks.
I reblogged this 0.2 sec ago but I love her clapbacks so much
Yeah should be doing this more.
I just love how she says âHe does not look to be of Native American descent,â lmao.
I never understood âgo back to Africaâ, like. Y'all brought them here. You gonna pay to send them back? Back where? Did you keep your records? Everyone from everywhere lives here now, deal with it already.
I feel like this is pretty important to realize: the cops are becoming exhausted, and thereâs a limited supply of them. NYPD has every cop on duty working full days every day. We have an unlimited capacity to rotate in fresh fighters that they simply do not have. We can take shifts. They canât.
This is also why weâre starting to see bare minimum concessions now. The powers that be have realized theyâve made a grave miscalculation. A week into it, and ideas that seemed utterly impossible even a month ago are on the table- LA is talking about a hundred and fifty million dollar budget cut for the LAPD, every cop directly involved in George Floydâs murder has been arrested and Chauvinâs charge has been raised to second degree murder, parts of the Minneapolis city council is pushing to permanently disband the Minneapolis police department.
What could we win with two weeks? Three? An organized general strike that brings the entire economy to a crashing halt? It is difficult to feel hopeful in such brutal times, but there is profound hope to be had in the realization that a week of getting our asses kicked has advanced the mainstream narrative around police so much further than electoralism wouldâve dared to dream in 100 years.
They know how much power we have
Do we?
A BUGâS LIFE (1998)Â dir. John Lasseter

Reminder that Stonewall wasnât about marriage equality. Stonewall was about police brutality. It was about systemic abuse and subordination. Stonewall was spearheaded by black trans women. As we celebrate Pride 2020, within the context of the Black Lives Matter riots, itâs imperative that we remember that.
Riots in protest of police brutality are the reason that we have more rights today. Do not forget your roots.
You canât celebrate Pride while simultaneously condemning the Black Lives Matter riots and protests that are happening right now. Know your history.
if youâre white and are protesting, please, please listen to this. if youâre white and have white friends protesting, let them know
this all blows in the face of Black and brown people protesting
