I just found out haunting adeline is getting a live action adaptation and I'm genuinely furious, at what point did we start treating one of the most devastating crimes a person can experience as a romance? This isn't about censorship, it's about basic human decency. Survivors deserve respect, not to watch their trauma repackaged as entertainment and marketed as something desirable. Sexual violence DESTROYS lives, it doesn't create epic love stories. The fact that it's now receiving a live action adaptation makes it even more unsettling, instead of asking what message we're sending, we're giving this story an even bigger platform. We should be protecting our society by refusing to glamorize abuse not rewarding it with more visibility. Victims deserve better. They deserve to know that their pain is taken seriously not transformed into a fantasy for people to consume. We can defend artistic freedom while also questioning the values certain stories promote and the impact they may have on audiences. Those conversations don't diminish fiction they recognize that stories can shape culture and culture influences how we understand real people and real harm.
