TPODG is already a great book but it becomes infinitely more interesting when you read it as a treatise on the continuing cycles of abuse, grooming and victimisation rather than a condemnation of a life solely dedicated to hedonism. I would go so far as to argue that given wilde’s lived experience the message of how bad a life of reckless abandon is is secondary to the underlying theme of how Dorian was a victim of intended sexual abuse and how he perpetuated that cycle through his treatment of Sybil Vane. In fact I don’t even think Dorian was Like That because he pursued pleasure with no care for how it affected others but rather as a form of self harm and self medication. Why am I still thinking about him it has been 2 years since i read the book.

okay but why is no one talking about the romeo and juliet/dorian gray and sybil vane parallels omg the amount of stuff that can be said about it

In an other world Sybil Vane met her actual romeo and not this gay twink.
