A lot of people in the notes are pointing out individual instances of trans men hurting trans women, and I want them to know I believe them, and thats fucked up. It feels like a betrayal when people in your community hurt you.
However, that still does not make trans men as a whole an oppressor class.
That is lateral violence.
There are some trans men that do harm because trans men are people, and there are people who commit violence in every community, no matter how marginalized they are. Anyone with any identity can hurt you.
There are some people who hold more power over others, and that makes harm more likely and liable to be allowed, but trans men are still fundamentally trans first and foremost. Even a passing trans man only has male privilege until hes exposed as trans, and then hes just as likely to suffer violence and discrimination.
There are and there will always be people in your community that dont suffer the exact type of oppression as you. There are and there will always be people within that category who are bad actors and who will harm others, and there are and will always be people who suffer the exact type of oppression as you that will do the same.
You dont have to stay around any individual who is harmful to you, whether they are a trans man or a trans woman or nonbinary or gay or a lesbian or bi or aspec or.
But the person right next to you who is also having their rights attacked is not an oppressor class.
The guy in the dungeon cell next to you, no matter how much of a dick they are, is not the person holding the key to the cell.
Not all violence is oppression. Oppression demands a level of privilege that other trans people simply do not have! The person who would get deadnamed on the news if they suffered a hate crime as well does not have the level of privilege to significantly oppress you on a societal scale.
And that doesnt make the violence okay or alright. But it does mean its not oppression.
