the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.
Remember when joining fandom as a younger person meant lurking for a bit and figuring out the vibe and etiquette instead of coming in on day one and calling people weirdos for liking weirdo shit in the weirdo factory.

it's not off the table! the idea still compels me but i would be more motivated to dedicate the necessary time (again this would be like 20k) to it if i thought you guys were interested as well

reminder of the premise: charles and alex have a whirlwind romance in architecture school and get married but when charles's dad passes, their marriage doesn't survive the stress. but after the divorce, alex keeps up with charles's work and starts to notice that charles's buildings are named after little things from their relationship. so when he learns that charles was also commissioned to work on the facilities for the thai grand prix, alex agrees, ready to really talk to him for the first time in years

yukierre option: all for the game is a book series by nora sakavic about exy, a fictional sport similar to lacrosse, and some very traumatized college students who play it. in my au, pierre would be like neil, yuki would be like andrew, max would be like kevin, and alex would be like riko. this would be a dual storyline: on one side, pierre is adjusting from a life on the run to his new home with his teammates yuki, lando, oscar, max, and charles. on the other, alex is forming a strained romance with george under the traumatizing pressures of being the son of the inventor of exy. and alex knows all about pierre's dark past
chalex option: charles and alex started dating in architecture school and after a whirlwind romance, they get married. unfortunately, when charles's dad passed, their marriage didn't survive the stress. but alex keeps up with charles's work and starts to notice that charles's buildings are named after little things from their relationship. when he gets commissioned to work on the facilities for the thai grand prix, alex agrees, even though he knows that charles was also commissioned and they haven't spoken in years.

George wore the number 3 and in his lowest moments, Alex wanted to lick it, see if the ink tasted any different from his skin.
“I know you are,” George said.
The resignation in his voice crawled up Alex’s skull, creating an unbearable pulsing itch.
