She's pretty much saying that yahweh is inherently racist. Is she so stupid as to believe the modern Christian depiction of Jesus and think the people writing exodus were white?

its just saying that you should be careful to not become another form of oppression?

One of the big rules in seminary was to never compare now in days to the Bible word for word. Now I had to actually read the story of Moses in the Bible, and part of the plagues was seen as "you kill my people, I kill yours, and if you're a god like me, you should stop this." Since the Pharaoh was seen as a god, what better punishment for a king than to lose his subjects?

(Not to mention the people of Egypt benefited from slaves since they were doing the jobs no one wanted.)

What Lily really doesn't understand about the story of Moses (or the Abrahamic religion as a whole), or just the Jewish religion, is that they don't believe in hell (correct me if I'm wrong), so people who suffered from the plague aren't damned to fire. The way people depict God is seeing death as a return to one's father. God made us and put us on earth for reasons, then allows us to go back.

Lily needs to stop seeing God as if they're human when they aren't.

She also needs to stop separating Islam from the Abrahamic religion. It's Islamophobic as all shit.

Orchard has been very consistent about saying that there is no ethical line to cross when it comes to fighting one's oppressors. That's more-or-less the argument she's making with Jet. Fighting tyranny, in fiction and real-life, is always the correct act no matter what it is you do.

So, Lily comparison doesn't make any sense, and i genuinly don't know why she keeps trying to argue that this is proof the jewish/christian god is evil.

Well, here’s the thing. Lily is applying modern morals and sensibilities to this story, so no matter how you describe it, it’s going to make god look like an awful person. Like, if someone said, “stop doing this crime or I’m shooting your daughter” they would never be justified for shooting the daughter, even if the criminal ignored them. You could have just shot the person committing the crime, not the innocent kid. 

Which is how a looot of karmic stories go, usually when someone fucks up, it’s not just them who suffers but everyone around them first, no matter how innocent the others are in all this. 

Which, like I said earlier, I’m not faulting anyone’s interpretation of this, but demonizing a whole religion and people because of how you personally see their deity is, uh, very white colonist of you, just gonna say. 

And idk why lily specifically left them out of her rant. Does she not know Islam broke of from Judaism same as Christianity so all three share the early stories like exodus? Or did she rightfully guess that by adding Islam into her rant that pretty much implies Christians and Jews are stupid for believing in an inherently evil God it'd be racist/Islamophobic so she dropped them (because I guess for some reason it's not antisemitic to call the Jewish God a psychopath)?

It's very weird to me.

See, Jet was trying to destroy an occupied Earth Nation village, which means he isn’t just trying to kill everyone associated with the Fire Nation including children, but was also actively willing to kill the very people he claimed to be trying to “free” if he thought it could do additional damage to the Fire Nation.

Say what you will about Moses being willing to kill kids, at least he kept things directed towards the Egyptians, and didn’t touch the Hebrews he was fighting for.

So it isn’t just a case of Lily saying “Killing the children of slavers is evil but killing the children of colonizers is A-OK.” But Lily saying “It’s okay to kill the children of colonizers AND the children of the colonized along with them if it’s necessary to kill more of said colonizers’ children!”

Alright, so, to be fair, the 10 plagues actually did apply to everyone in Egypt. It’s just that the last plague had a caveat where you could avoid it if you did one simple thing and, of course, God told Moses to tell all the Hebrews what to do to keep their firstborns from dying. Arguably, this would also affect Hebrews that didn’t heed Moses or slaves of different demographics or so on and so forth. 

Which is fucked up, if we apply strict modern morals to it, but that would be like applying modern morals to the Brother’s Grimm version of Cinderella where the step-sisters had their eyes plucked out by birds for their greed. Yeah, it’s also fucked up, but that was the incentive to teach people not to do bad shit back then.

Avatar, however, was ALWAYS about teaching kids MODERN MORALS. The Jet episode was the most basic ass “two wrongs don’t make a right” type of messaging you could make, and somehow that still went sailing over Lily’s head because she couldn’t grasp the concept of CHILDREN DYING BEING BAD.

And yet, she somehow miraculously understands that concept again for a biblical re-telling of Moses, only so she can villainize… God? Like, yes, you can find his methods fucked up, I’m not taking that interpretation away from you — but your reasoning makes no sense when you’ve already ranted at length about how Jet shouldn’t have been villainized for trying to drown a whole ass town or that there should be a game where elves genocide human settlements as retributive justice. 

“It shouldn’t have made colonizers sympathetic—“ IT WAS A CHILDREN’S SHOW TRYING TO SHOW THAT PEOPLE OF ALL NATIONS ARE HUMAN AND WAR IS SENSELESS AND NO LIFE IS WORTH MORE OR LESS THAN ANOTHER’S. 

It’s only when people go full Tommy Wiseau over their stories that are already using someone else’s work as a crutch to puff up their chest and shit on other stories like they’re an expert.
