say what you will about the world ending and 2020 being hell. since quarantines started, the air is filled with laughter and talk. i hear kids playing in backyards with their family. i hear people talking happily on the phone with loved ones. everyone has their doors open to the porches at our apartment. you smell cooking, see the lights of backyard firepits, hear children delighted to spend time with parents that are never home. i love the videos of people playing music with their neighbors, playing bingo from their balconies, pranking their family members, and streaming with their friends. i love that my mom and dad keep stealing access to netflix because they are home from work and finally have a chance to watch movies together. my neighbors wave at me when i take the dog out while they laugh with each other over a beer. i know more than anything its a commentary on capitalism but it’s still great to see people being people. its good to know there are still humans and that they are being relentlessly, beautifully human, regardless of what happens.

I’m happy that your parents keep stealing access to netflix, but, and I don’t know how to say nicely, this but people are literally dying.

Honestly OP made a beautiful post that has helped put a lot of things about lockdown into perspective for me and has therefore helped me cope enough that I’m not fucking spiraling. OP did a good fucking thing for at least one person, this post has legitimately made my life better and y'all are fucking monsters for piling on them.

If we provided everyone with their basic needs regardless of work status, people wouldn’t stop working. They would just start working for the things they care about and find meaningful in their own right, and not just for the pay which they will no longer need to survive.

btw, studies show we should all be working less. it’s better for us and for the environment. like seriously, we’re at a unique point in history where humanity would benefit from less labor. there’s already more than enough to go around–we just let society refuse to distribute it

A fish trying not to get eaten wouldn’t slow down when the “predator” slows down. It also wouldn’t constantly swim in a circle near the edge of the tank; It’d try hiding. Also a fish in a tank in a a public place that is constantly filled with people is not likely to see people as predators.

Animals, I think people tend to forget, also enjoy playing.
