Davrin stared down at the rug in the center of their living room. Assan was stretched out on the floor, his blue eyes bright as he allowed an elven toddler that Davrin had never seen before climb all over him.
Rook stood watching them with a soft smile on his face. He glanced up at Davrin as the Warden closed the door. "Hello, Love, how was your day?"
"Fine," Davrin replied, eyes flickering back and forth between Rook, the toddler, and Assan. "Rook, why is there a baby in our living room?"

Immediate Post DATV after the Veilguard descends from the Archon's Palace
No one knew where Rook had gone. Neve figured the rogue had to be somewhere nearby. She must have slipped away to find a quiet spot to take a few moments to herself. Still, she wanted to find her Trouble. While they'd lost a lot getting here, they'd finally won, and that was worth celebrating.
She made her way through the throng of celebrating allies, eyes searching.
"Ah, Neve, you are looking for Rook?" It was Illario, his eyes knowing.
"Illario," Neve greeted him. She still wasn't entirely fond of Lucanis's cousin after what he'd done, but she could be civil. "Yes, I'm looking for Rook. Have you seen her."
Illario gave her an uncharacteristically somber look and nodded, then pointed down a nearby hall. "She's with other Wardens," he advised.
Neve frowned, following his direction. At the second door she could hear a soft murmuring of voices, one she was certain sounded like Rook. She knocked lightly on the door. "Rook?"
The only answer she heard was something like a strangled sob. She threw the door open.
In one corner of the room, she saw Rook, still in her armor, with her head buried in her sister Sunshine's shoulder. Sunshine looked exhausted, tears streaking down her face as she held Rook. A man in Warden mage armor and graying blonde hair had his arms wrapped around both women, expression tight with grief.

Lucanis counts the days since he and Spite last saw Rook. There are a lot of breakdowns but a lot of healing. Lucanis shows Viago a truth he didn't dare hope for and Viago gives Lucanis a gift in exchange. Illario asks to never be left behind, and Bellara has the idea of a decoy dagger.
Chapter Excerpt:
It was just before dawn. Assan and Illario had pushed him out of bed, so he had retreated to the comfort of the kitchen. He was midway through preparing the breakfast ingredients when Viago walked through the door.
It was the first time Lucanis found himself alone with Viago during the Talon’s stay in the Lighthouse. He knew it wasn’t anything personal; Viago avoided everyone except Emmrich. Conversation was short, with Viago obviously distracted but not so distracted that he didn’t test all the ingredients he had set out.
Once given clearance to do so, he cooked and set a plate of eggs in front of Viago. He hadn’t consumed enough coffee to watch Viago test the finished product made with the tested ingredients.
He was halfway back to the kitchen when Viago spoke. “You and Gemma.”
“UH OH.”
Returning to the table, he sat across from Viago and sipped at his coffee to hide the anxiety the words had brought to him and Spite. He had known Viago for so long and they had been almost friends, something he hadn’t had before this before this contract. Once, he had even thought himself feeling a connection to Viago, but after sending a gift that was not well received, he had not pursued it, and it faded.
“DOES ROOK. KNOW THAT?”
He sighed inwardly. He was going to have to watch the Rook Book and the Neve Notes to avoid that though coming out.
Viago continued. “At first, I approved because I knew it would keep her in Treviso. If she wasn’t going to stay for me, at least she’d still be at home.” He remained focused on the plate of food. “But now, because of this, this horrible thing that has happened, I realize you truly do love her.”
Mierda, how could he be expected to hold himself together against this? Tears fell down his cheeks. “She is my everything. Truly. Forever.” Rook would want him to stay strong, to tell Viago the truth. “Viago, she was going to stay in Treviso, even before us.”
“How do you know?”
How did Viago not know? He was at a loss as to where to start.
“NEED TO SHOW HIM.”
Spite was right. To Viago, he said, “Meet me at the eluvian in an hour.”
“Why?”
“You need to see the explanation to believe it.”
“Why not now?”
“One, we're going to Treviso, and you can't go like that.” Viago was dressed down again, his hair in waves, but he looked and smelled clean. “Two, you should eat those eggs. Three, I have pastries in the oven.”

Anyone who's scrolled my Tumblr enough would know I have kids. Four of them. Ages ranging from not-quite-preteen to now-a-college-student. All girls. All fun in their own ways.
Today, I want to show off something Kid#2 made for me (at my request, but still).
A while back (last October, to be exact), I saw this post about a crocheted Lucanis plush. I reblogged it, and I also went and bought the pattern and immediately worked out a deal with Kid#2 because she crochets and I don't. I'd supply the pattern and the yarn, and I'd pay her for her labor, and she'd make me the plush.
It's done now (been done for a hot minute but I've been busy with other things), and I'm showing it off.
Look at this gentleman!
More photos and some chat about the project under the cut:
One interesting thing about this project: my daughter had to do some improvisation in places, because apparently she crochets differently between "in the round" and "line-by-line" or whatever it is. Basically, when she was crocheting non-rounds (the vest, for instance, or the beard), the final size matched the pattern. When she had to crochet in the round (limbs, head), her end product came out bigger than the pattern.
This meant when she first finished the head, it was way too large. She had to redo it at least twice, using her self-taught skills to figure out how to shrink it to the correct relative size to the body. This also meant the body was too tall for the vest, and she had to lengthen that. Luckily she got the hair to fit.
It was fun watching her work on it, though, because of a few silly things. For starters, when she did have the head the way she wanted, she showed me the inside of it, and we both agreed it looked like a demented Muppet:
You're welcome.
Lucanis also went through an emo phase and a "very pretty" phase while his hair was being attached:
Because the pattern basically crochets an octopus and then stitches down all the tentacles to give him his hair.
But my favorite feature of the plush? Before she finished the head, I suggested we take a bundle of purple yarn scraps and stuff them inside with the polyfil, because Spite.
So no one will ever actually see this outside of this photo because it's closed up inside there now, but this Lucanis has a little Spite in him.
And then I took some fun photos with him at my desk, where he now lives.
The finished doll, against a wallpaper of Treviso on my computer (just like the first photo I posted):
Riding on my official mabari plush, Mordin:
(still the Treviso wallpaper)
And with the other plushes that normally live on my desk, for something of a size comparison against the Squishmallows:
Lucanis is about 10.5 inches tall.
Mad props to my daughter for making this for me, despite its challenges! (We're still not sure why the rounds came out wildly different from the pattern while the non-rounds didn't, but it is what it is. I guess if anyone who sees this crochets, you can theorize what happened in the comments.)
Tag list just because I'm a proud mom who wants to show off her kid's stuff.

Scout Lace Harding was NOT murdering people left and right with a satisfied smirk on her face in her first scene ever and learning both how to fight and making herself as helpful and resourceful as possible because she was a little dwarven girl growing up around human boys and very possibly tracking down and killing a lyrium-addicted Cullen in the streets (and thinking of it as a merciful act) AND carrying one of the strongest parts of veilguard on her back with her arc being all about her rage and how she wants to grapple with it for you all to relegate her to the safe and dull nice girl love interest 🫵 START PONDERING
pros of having a favorite character youve liked for over a decade: character brings you joy and excitement
cons of having a favorite character youve liked for over a decade: they have become a permanent part of your internal monologue and you cant get them to go away

The epilogue for The Blood Crow is up. Thank you to everyone who read, kudo'd, and commented on the fic. 💙💜
Sometime in the Age following the Dragon Age...
Snippet:
Suddenly she saw two glowing beings further off in the fog. She froze, staring up at them as they approached.
A giant, glowing purple wyvern and a glowing blue phoenix of the same size came padding out of the fog, the glow from both of them chasing away the obscuring mist around Naia.
Naia remained frozen in terror as the wyvern reached her and sat back on its haunches, tilting its head curiously. The phoenix paused beside the wyvern and leaned forward, and she could feel its warm breath, telling her this was more than just some spirit or demon.

Hemlock and water of the river for his crown, steel and serpents as his blades, with passion vine and a murder of crows as his armor, dressed in shadowed blue and regal purple.
Based on the King of Spades card.
Notes: Updated to include an alternate version. The original imitates the coloration style of most traditional playing cards. In the second card, I've created an alternate version, with skin and hair colors taken from unmodded screenshots, and then slightly darkened to match the overall tone of the card.
Rook is still in the Fade prison. She's going to be there for a while.
Full chapter on AO3 here.
Chapter Summary:
In Chapter 12, Illario and Spite successfully pulled Lucanis out of his mind and Illario passes the POV back to Lucanis. (Grudgingly.)
Lucanis is now back with the team and they are all hurting. Manfred passes out death letters from Rook, which Lucanis and Spite refuse to read. Illario comes up with an idea and secrets are revealed.
Chapter Excerpt:
“There are still a lot of leftovers,” Bellara said gently. “We can buy more ingredients and send food around again if you need to cook.”
Lucanis wasn't sure if it would help. The leftover cacio de pepe that reminded him of Rook had tasted like nothing but renewed some strength. “I don't know what to do with myself,” he said. “I'm not tired. I've done nothing for three days.”
Bellara looked tired, sad, and worried. “When everyone is back, we'll make a plan.”
“AND SIX BACKUP. PLANS.”
The words struck a sharp pain through his chest.
Illario strolled into the dining hall, holding something in his hand. “Cousin, remember when you left for that special training in Antiva City?”
He frowned at him, wondering where this was going. “Which time?”
“The first time.”
He had been thirteen, Illario twelve. It had been the first time apart since the death of their parents. The weeks-long training had been brutal and exhausting and without Illario, he had been miserable and alone. “Yes, why?”
“Do you remember what you told me to do before you left?”
“No.”
“We agreed to write down our days, so when you returned, we could switch journals and know what had happened while we were apart.” Illario frowned. “You forgot.”
“I did not forget,” he protested, remembering it now. “I was not given the time.” He could barely hold a pen or keep himself awake for the few hours he was allowed to sleep during the training.
“I did it. Every day. Multiple times a day.” He set a journal down on the table and pushed it towards him. “It made me feel like you were there with me the whole time. Like I hadn’t been left alone, stuck in my normal routine, while you were off doing exciting things.”
“Exciting things? It was grueling and—” He broke off and opened the journal. It was blank. Realization crashed through him. “For me?”
“For all of us. Tell her what’s happening.”
“WRITE TO ROOK?”
“Let it keep you sane,” he said.
“That’s a really great idea, Illario,” Bellara said.
And here's a preview of the Rook Book - entries by Lucanis, Illario, and Taash.

Bane of cruel men, her wit cuts almost as sharp as her daggers. Beauty and grace with a resolve as adamant as the hardest of steel, she outshines diamonds.
Based on the Queen of Spades card, companion to the King of Crows.
Notes: I've included two versions. The original imitates the coloration style of most traditional playing cards. In the second card, I've created an alternate version, with skin and hair colors taken from unmodded screenshots, and then slightly darkened to match the overall tone of the card.
(And yes, I've got an alternate version for the King of Crows as well, which will get posted a little later 🖤)
Merrill is alone.
Marethari made sure the clan held no home for her. Hawke made his distance clear, and his friends followed suit.
Only the demon to keep her company in Kirkwall, her days and nights are consumed with her mission.
And if a wolf stalks her dreams?
It's nothing. She made a promise to herself, and she will pay the price of what it costs.
