Tevinter is a complicated place, and each Shadow has their own relationship with their country and reasons for fighting for it. To Bring the Light is to create hope for a future, hold faith that Tevinter can change, find purpose in the lessons you've learned from your own past. Whatever their reason for fighting, each Shadow needs to make sure to hold onto their own light as well-- because those who fight deserve to see the brighter future they're trying to forge.

For @shadow-dragon-week!
Cyrilla Mercar belongs to @mythals-whore
Callie and Rhys are mine <3
I finally got my brain back together for these!! Thank you for the asks <33
OTP Asks here!
Back to my Original Idiots!
14. How do they work together?
In all iterations, Sabriel and Lucanis operate on a fundamental Silent Understanding. They're both incredibly internal people who perform Perfection for those around them, which makes it difficult to express their true feelings and desires. This does lead to misunderstandings because I fully believe neither is honest about most feelings for a long time, but at the same time, they work precisely because they're both like this. They know how to read each other, and they know intrinsically that the other's not going to ask without pressure. It mostly just takes time to figure out what pressure to apply and when. Once they get a grasp of each other's true support needs, they're basically inseparable because no one can read them like each other can.
26. What tropes does your OTP fall under?
Slow burn (and how), First Love (for both of them, In My Honest Opinion), Everyone Can See It (and man it's driving the Veilguard insane), the way I almost want to call them Enemies to Lovers but it's not quite in the way that's usually done? They're also not really enemies they're just really NOT on the same page at all at first (too similar, seeing their flaws in the other person). They're more like…mirror images?
37. What did the couple introduce to one another? (Can be a product, hobby, way of doing things, etc.)
Lucanis teaches Sabriel a LOT of cooking techniques, from sophisticated ones to "MAKER, this is how you properly peel a potato!!" (I'm keeping that headcanon until the day I die). He also probably introduces her to some new clothing silhouettes and ideas for outfits so she maybe looks a little less like a mad scientist every time she goes outside LOL
In turn, Sabriel introduces Lucanis to her different grounding and breathing techniques, calming methods that are less prone to making Spite just take Lucanis's emotions and run with them instead. She also definitely gets him in on her hobby of reading murder mysteries and judging how plausible the cause of death is. These conversations are likely incredibly macabre and make everyone around them a little bit freaked out.

Something I do find lovely about the first 4 Murderbot Diaries books (can’t yet speak on all of them) is:
Murderbot chronically finding new scientists/travellers to claim as “clients” (whether paid or not) like one of those sheepless herding dogs that goes around finding sheep (or anything else they can herd like a flock of sheep). Like it clearly has a protect humans instinct and a desperate need for enrichment.
Given its general lack of self awareness and unreliable narrator status, there’s no way in hell Murderbot is aware it’s doing this.
I completely forgot to post the finished pic of my qunari rook. 😭
It’s just been sitting on my ipad all this time. Man, I need to make more time for drawing, I come home from work and don’t have energy to do anyyythiiiing.

Oooh from the OTP asks, can I get #10, 23, and 38 for Sabi and/or Rhys?💜
Thank you so much for the asks!!
OTP Asks here!
10. What is an incredibly heartwarming moment between the two?
If they had a date kind of event, it would be Rhys taking Sabriel to the Minrathous markets to go flower shopping. She makes pressed flower bookmarks and terrariums, and he'd want to help her get some plants for a new project (because she doesn't relax enough). Little does he realize that she's paying attention to which plants he's drawn towards, and she uses them to make him a bookmark later. This I guess would be two moments (the actual shopping and then the gift giving) but the small ways they show they're paying attention to the other person without calling it out in the moment is really what makes these two as a couple :)
23. What is a hobby/habit that one of them is into but the other can't get behind, and vice versa?
Much like any other non-Nevarran, Rhys doesn't get the bones. He'll never get the bones. But she gets so excited telling him about what kind of bones they are and how bird bones are different from mammal bones and she builds skeletons and it's just. A little freaky but she's so cute when she's excited he can't ask her to stop.
Sabriel will never understand how he can enjoy like. Going out for drinks, meeting new people and generally doing big social events. Rhys isn't a BIG drinker, but he would be the kind to go out to the pub with a big group from the Shadows kind of thing because he likes to spend time with people. To Sabriel, this sounds exhausting and she's had enough of most people by the end of the day. But it makes him happy, so she tries to make an appearance when she can manage it.
38. What is something they admire about the other?
For Rhys, it's very much Sabriel's intelligence. She keeps so many facts in her brain and she makes connections SO quickly, it's pretty astounding to him. He's not STUPID by any means, but his talents are very particular, whereas it feels like she picks up new information and skills incredibly quickly. It's helpful and impressive, especially when it gives him perspective on things he doesn't know about.
For Sabriel, it's Rhys's friendliness. He's a social chameleon who can somehow manage to fit himself into any group. He intrinsically knows where his place is, whether it's leader or follower or second-in-command. Sabriel has to try immensely hard to keep herself behaving in socially acceptable ways, whereas he seems to just have a general ease about him with other people. His charisma is a bit enviable to her.
Rhys x Sabi OTP Questions: 4, 5, 6, 19, 21, 28, 29, 36, 39
Ooh so many!! Thank you so much these were so much fun!

Putting these under a cut since it's long haha
4. What acts do the couple do for the other that they absolutely adore? (ex: A knows B hates peeling oranges so A does it)
Once Rhys learns to trust Sabriel with assisting with his chronic pain issues, he never wants to give it up LOL She just makes everything so much easier to deal with, and she insists it's not a lot of energy to either just assist with his stretches or use healing spells to take the edge off the pain. The ability to let himself rely on her for something that sensitive to him is massive for him.
Sabriel on the other hand is always really grateful that he's willing to do food prep with/for her. She likes to cook! Honest! But GOODNESS all the chopping and washing and organizing, it gets to be tiring and overwhelming for her busy brain (it's so much easier with potion-making, it's much less frequent!). She also just enjoys doing activities with other people and mundane togetherness like that means the world to her.
5. What matching outfits do you imagine the pair wearing?
They're so different in size, they wouldn't be able to get totally matching clothes for the most part, but I can definitely see them getting specific matching items. In VG canon it would probably be like matching armguards or belts? In more modern settings they probably have matching hoodies (forced on them by Callie) and cable knit sweaters (gifts from Lucanis probably). Sabriel would also definitely get Rhys a piece of grave gold that matched something she had — a vine bracelet to match her ring, for instance. Matching grave gold is one of Sabi's biggest signals that she's REALLY bonded to someone.
6. How did they become official?
So I intend to write this one eventually, but as Companion Sabi, her "lock-in" scene with Rook happens on the Rivain Coast, where she eventually manages to convey that she's a little scared of how attached she is to Rhys and she's not sure what to do about it. He finds this kind of funny, but is also relieved because it means he wasn't just imagining things. She does get upset with him for laughing about it but mostly just because she's embarrassed. It's gonna be so disgustingly sweet.
Though I really don't think they become TOTALLY official until after everything is handled with the Evanuris and Solas. Sabriel's still a hard sell on a relationship and Rhys is pretty convinced she's being influenced by circumstances. It takes another earnest heart-to-heart for them to realize that they're both interested in this for the long haul, and they work out their plans from there.
19. Do they have a place/object that is specifically theirs? Where/What is it and why? (ex: Odysseus and Penelope's olive tree bed)
It's a bit broad, but along the coastline I think, especially in Rivain. A lot of Sabriel's personal development happens in Rivain, and the open ocean is significant imagery for both of them in terms of an open horizon and endless possibility now that they're both free of the expectations that caged them for most of their lives (this is of course why Sabriel fits with Laidirs really well too LOL)
21. How did they meet and their first impressions upon meeting each other?
So in general, if they occupy the same timeline in Thedas, they meet in Sabriel's clinic in Minrathous, either because Rhys is seeking medical assistance as a Shadow Dragon or he's looking for a healer for the team as Rook. Sabriel's immediately intimidated by him (an impression he hates giving but knows he does anyway), though he eases her anxiety pretty quickly with his friendliness. She thinks he seems capable and reliable, if a little flippant at times.
Meanwhile Rhys is immediately curious about her. A Nevarran necromancer holed up in the corner of Dock Town is enough to attract rumors, so he's known of her existence for a little while, but she's very different than he was expecting! She's jumpy and clearly smart but a little bit awkward and she avoids eye contact unless Emmrich is around? She's the exact kind of person he would adopt as a friend to incorporate them into his social environment.
28. How do they divide up the chores? Who does what?
Rhys handles a lot of cleaning and organizing — he's used to spare spaces and needing to be tidy, so it's natural for him to see things that need cleaning and just. Do it. Sabriel does more of the mental chores like meal planning, tracking events, and managing schedules. They probably alternate the chores neither of them like, and Sabriel takes over more physical chores when Rhys's leg needs rest.
29. What is their home like and how do they decorate it?
If they moved into a space together, it would lean very much towards Sabriel's taste. Rhys is…a classic man about a lot of things. His house would be a bed, a desk and a chair if left to his own devices, poor guy. Sabriel fills spaces with plants and books and terrariums and bones and Rhys has to try to get her to slow down a little. Slowly over time, Rhys's taste would start to show up in places— the colors of their blankets, new books that belong to him, some weapons show up with the bones. One corner is plants that are all of his choosing. Sabriel takes extra special care of those.
36. Do they have a couple bucket list?
I don't think so? They're both very used to thinking within the bounds of their "assigned" life paths, so they haven't spent much time considering what to do outside of those expectations. Once things with the elven gods have settled, Sabriel would want to travel and Rhys would accompany her, but it wouldn't really be a hitlist situation so much as traveling to visit their friends and just make some new memories and experience some new things.
39. Before they were dating, did they have supportive friends who tried to set them up? What did they try to do?
In my mind, the whole Veilguard is IMMENSELY nosy about everyone's relationships all the time, so for sure they tried to do what they could to set these two up, especially knowing that they're both very reticent about Wanting Things from people. Bellara and Harding are especially bad about it, though even Neve probably asks a few pointed questions of Sabriel at some point. I think Davrin's probably the only one that doesn't stick his nose in their business LOL Even Lucanis is good friends with Sabriel if they don't end up together, and I think of him as having the subtlety of a brick, so he definitely says something stupid at some point. Honestly half of the meddling isn't even on purpose, the group's just confused about both Rhys and Sabi's feelings and are trying to get clarity.
this was a little drabble i liked which i finally decided would probably never become part of a larger thing, so i polished her a little, here u r please enjoy.

The sharp rap of knuckles on the door is still rattling through Cullen's aching skull when the door opens. He sighs, though at this point wouldn't consider himself unused to interruptions.
"Where is the Inquisitor?" Cassandra demands as she marches through the door. It thuds closed behind her, his refrain from flinching at the sound is due only to a great deal of proficiency in the matter.
Still, he pinches at the front of his brow for several moments, alleviating the pain only briefly before he looks up. "What?"
Cassandra glares at him, arms crossed over the all-seeing eye on her chest plate. "The Inquisitor. I know she is here."
"I…" Cullen begins, and then, finding himself unable to decipher her meaning, shakes his head as though it could shake the clouds. "Was unaware she had returned from the Wastes." Though as he squints at Cassandra, he's relatively sure that she, too had been away until…well he's not certain.
"We returned late early this morning. I received notice that Nevarran Nobles," she sneers the words with an almost shocking display of disgust. "have seen fit to grace us with their presence. Lyria swore to me that she would be there to greet them."
Somewhere in the back of his mind, Cullen notes the use of the Inquisitor's given name. He'd long been aware of the fact that Lyria considered the two of them friends, though Cassandra was often inscrutable enough that he'd never been sure how reciprocal the assumption had been. Arguably, the forefront of his mind is more occupied with the accusation in the glare Cassandra levels at him.
"Where is she?"
Cullen lets out a laugh of pure exhaustion, "Cassandra, I swear to you I do not know."
When she doesn't move, eyes still narrowed on him with undeserved suspicion, Cullen throws up his hands. "Do you think I've got her hidden beneath my desk?" he demands.
Given the color that seeps from her face and the look of pure horror that flashes across it, it's the wrong thing to say. Cullen realizes his mistake moments later, the color which drained form her face now floods his. He quickly gets to his feet, knocking his chair and hammering his knee into the edge in his haste.
"I didn't—I mean, we haven't—I would never—" He offers Cassandra a placating hand as he sputters over a thousand different denials before he finally settles for saying: "She is not here."
The curl of Cassandra's lip says she doesn't quite believe him, and the way her eyes flick down says he isn't freed from suspicion, despite his attempt to earn exoneration.
"If you see her," she says through a pinched expression. "Tell her that I am looking for her."
As she slips out of the door, Cullen sinks back into his seat like a reprimanded toddler. His hands rise to scrub over his face as he makes several attempts to remind himself he hadn't actually done anything wrong. Most days he's sure he manages to maintain the level of professionalism he's always aspired to. Other times he's sure that Lyria has unraveled him completely.
It was odd—not that they'd returned early, but that he shouldn't have heard about it. They'd returned early this morning, though not so early that Lyria or Cassandra had come to the War Room. Cullen had done inspections immediately following, and hadn't heard a whisper of their return. Of course, he'd retreated to his office when the ache had spread from his neck up into his head, and hadn't left since the pain had started seeping into the space behind his eyes. Still, he feels sure Lyria would have come to see him, especially if they've been back at Skyhold long enough that the Seeker had lost track of her.
He blows a long breath from his nose as he studies the graying wooden planks overhead—and then frowns. Perhaps he hadn't been entirely honest with Cassandra.
His joints groan even louder than the wooden rungs underfoot as Cullen hauls himself into his bedroom loft. Sunlight pours in through the break in the roof, muted from the cloud cover. Still, it washes his bed in a soft golden light, highlighting the bronze and gold and burnt umber splayed over his pillow. He creeps closer, mindful of the many rickety floorboards underfoot.
One of her hands is pressed to her face, the other fisted in the corner of her pillow. Her mouth hangs slightly open, eyelashes casting long shadows over her nose. Asleep, despite the daylight spilling over her.
She looks peaceful. And in this light he's reminded how much younger she is than the rest of them. Maybe five years wouldn't seem so much a difference, in other circumstances. As it was, she often seemed older—certainly wiser and more level headed—than most of them. Too young to bear the weight of all Thedas on her narrow shoulders.
A rare spear of rebellion rips through him.
Nevarran nobles or no, she should be allowed to rest. They depend on her for too much already, and as time goes on, the demand for her attention only increases. She'd increasingly exhausted upon her returns to Skyhold. It hadn't escaped his notice, though it was difficult to encourage her to rest when that so often led to a gentle reprimand of his own hypocrisy.
Until one of them had learned to rest, he suppose they would remain at an impasse. Still, he considers the merits of keeping this secret. He turns to go with such decisiveness that he forgets his earlier caution. The dilapidated wood complains loudly as he makes his escape, better reason for repairs than any he'd previously considered.
Cullen grimaces as a sharp metallic scent momentarily fills the air, raising the fine hair at the back of his neck. He turns to find Lyria up on elbow and squinting in his direction.
"I didn't mean to wake you," he admits, already retracing his steps.
Lyria sinks back onto the pillow with a little grumble that sounds a little like an apology. Cullen perches himself on the edge of the bed, reaching over to brush a few stray coppery strands from her face.
"I didn't mean to fall asleep," she tells him. He refrains from any arguments which involve the presence of her boots by the foot of the bed, or the way her staff had been carefully set against the wall. Her lips split into a wide yawn which she doesn't finish before attempting to form the words: "So tired."
Her eyes are already drifting closed, so Cullen doesn't try to hide the smile creeping in at the corners of his mouth. "You wouldn't rather sleep in your own quarters?"
One of her eyes cracks open, and if he didn't know her so well, he might have thought she was pouting. "They know to look for me there."
His knuckles graze the slight flush over her cheekbone, passing over the trio of freckles by her eye.
He has a moment to decide, because it's clear by the twitch of her nose and her curling fingers that sleep is already tempting her once again. Cassandra is sure to castigate him if she discovers his treachery—and he expects Lyria will hardly be pleased. His eyebrows pull together as he attempts to tuck hair behind her ear, mindful of the way it so often tangles in the gold rings and chains which decorate them.
Cullen says her name once, too softly to be considered a true attempt. She lets out a grunt that says she registers the sound, but her eyes don't open. As his thumb swipes again over her cheek, he allows himself a moment to revel just a bit in the fact that she’d wanted somewhere safe to go, and she’d come here. A decision made perhaps more in desperation than conscious thought, but all the same, he doesn't plan to spoil it.
So even though the rhythm of her breathing informs him she's already asleep by the time he presses a kiss to her hair, he still promises, “I won’t tell anyone."
