Wait: what if the broken Pariah Blades weren't from the fight with Azgra, but from trying to use them to kill the other Shapers?
After all, how else would the people of Aramán know they need to forge their own god-killing weapons if they didn't first attempt to kill the other Shapers with the weapons that already did the job once? And when a blade that helped cut down the god of war shatters on the skin of a different god, you know that you need a different weapon, that the failure is no fault of the champions chosen to get in there and stab or slash.
I'm almost inevitably going to fumble trying to articulate this, and I've tried to talk about it a little in tags with mixed success, but the play and Vokjan's awe at his people dressed in nice clothes with flowers all around has really made me want to come back to it.
Hal's choice not to fight in the Falconer's Rebellion was a personal choice about prioritizing his own family (and whether he could even leave his two older children with Elodie to go off and fight is not totally certain). But it was, of course, not a choice made in isolation. He argues that even their father decided to hang up his blade at some point, but our understanding of the lot of orcs before the Shaper's War is that that wasn't a choice their father could have made 60 years prior. That under Azgra, Hal would almost certainly have been forced to march to war, never mind his three young children at home. There were clearly orcs who weren't on the front lines, orcs who built the cities and smithed the weapons and provided whatever food the community had, but by and large orcs were made as weapons and used as such. Thjazi's letter referenced turning swords into plowshares. In some ways, Hal's whole life between the War of Axe and Vine and now has been a version of that. The Falconer's Rebellion was a just cause, and it's probable that if more people had been willing to join it, Araman wouldn't be in the mess it's currently in. But Hal's choice to abstain is a very different choice from Aranessa's choice to abstain. The politics of an orc saying "I will not fight" even when the cause is just are far more nuanced. Because isn't this part of the freedom Vokjan Murzat fought and died for? Orcs in nice clothes, with flowers all around, and time to go see beautiful art made by their own people? Orcs who raise children and start businesses and hang up their swords? A life free from war? Finally. We don't know whether Hal was thinking about those politics when he made his choice. I suspect he was "I choose the Rungjani" indicates that to me, but you can easily read the scene another way. Whatever your take on his thought process, the politics of the choice are undeniable. A healthy orc in his early 30s refusing a call to arms barely 50 years after Azgra's death means something for the Rungjani.
I like this aspect of Hal's background because I think it's fascinating and one of the many ways in which his character feels deeply nuanced. But also, I think Hal feeling like he has no choice but to step into the fray and take up his sword once again throws into sharp relief that one of the violences of injustice is that it requires action. In real life, even the most non-violent methods and most incremental approaches to upending oppressive systems require deep sacrifices of time and emotional well-being. The fight is relentless and draining. To have to fight injustice is in itself unjust, in large part because of the necessity of the work. Someone has to step up and make the sacrifices, often those already suffering under the weight of what needs to be fought off. And for Hal to be called to take up his sword again does contain a sort of innate hopelessness. In his words to Vokjan, Hal has made some version of peace with this. "[Freedom] is never a given. But now, we always have a chance." But also, his son is off fighting some unknown battle, unreachable to his parents, his older daughter is on stage risking the wrath of one of the most powerful people in the world, and his younger daughter took notes for a secret meeting planning treason. Things are better. They are all adults, not actual children being sent onto the battlefield. But still, the lament that started the Shaper's War, "why can't I keep my family safe?," has only gone half-answered despite the apparent completeness of the orcs' victory. And all those orcs in nice clothes, with flowers all around, and the free time to come see a show celebrating their history, will only remain free if Hal allows himself to once again be a weapon
Making this mostly for personal reference but it may be useful to others:
Leveled up in 4x27: Murray (gems), Tyranny (knife)
Leveled up in 4x28: Thaisha (Thjazi's grave/Calling the Corners)*, Wick (return of the prodigal son), Azune (Einfasen meeting), Vaelus (conversation with Hannan)
Leveled up in 4x29: Occtis (touching the veil), Hal (KoTher'ai), Thimble (protecting an ally so they can go forward into the Reaches), Kattigan (finds the sorcerer).
Still level 4 as of the end of 4x29: Bolaire, Teor, Julien
*initiated by Aabria - the rest of the Convergence level-ups have been Brennan declaring them level 5, but as Aabria did not level up Thaisha during the Seekers arc she was able to level up here. This is not a bad thing and honestly it fits the pattern for this episode (see below), just an FYI.
Episode 4x27's level-ups are both item-related but ultimately more about realizing a particular interest or calling that also ties back into their nature. Murray is from a gem merchant family but her interest and goals have always been in the realm of the arcane, and these gems, which allow magic at a distance, combine the two. Tyranny is a demon and her purpose is to cause harm, but the knife is a means of channeling that productively, to cause harm to those who have harmed others.
Episode 4x28's level-ups are about facing a difficult but necessary conversation, and at least attempting to make a connection. Thaisha's is regarding Thjazi and also I would argue nature/the world itself with Calling the Corners. Wick's is with his grandmother, Azune's with House Einfasen, and Vaelus's with Hannan. I think all of these also represent a certain degree of honesty with one's self, even if Azune and Wick are very much lying to others.
Episode 4x29 is a complicated one - you can draw a very clear line between Occtis, Kattigan, and Hal in terms of realizing a long-term goal (comprehension of his family's magic; finding Marienna's killer; dedicating the former Dithyramb of Azgra as a theater) but Thimble doesn't quite fit in that. Now I will admit on a meta level that Team Birdwatch - which was entirely level 4 at the start of this episode - is going to be combat-heavy, so your best bet is to make something of a combat triumph rather than waiting for an ideal RP moment. But I also think these are all borne of risking one's self for someone else. Occtis levels up when he touches the veil to protect Thimble from necromantic magic. Kattigan finds Primus because he ran into the aspirants' trap to help Teor. Hal puts on the play despite knowing it might bring down the Candescent Creed on his head because he believes it is what's right for the city and especially for the Rungjani and for Thjazi's wishes. And Thimble risks her life for Julien, also in the service of Thjazi's goals.

This is a really fantastic return to form for this genre of post. In recent years there's been less and less effort put into this vital aspect of internet culture, it's nice to see a return to the truly artisanal work of the late 00s.
Now THIS is what the internet exists for. I was LOCKED IN the whole time.
sometimes being a fan of something means not wanting them to make any more of it
I thought about just tagging this 'nuff said, but it's not.
I want to say something to all of the women under 50 on this site. Ready? You do not have to be over 50 to start taking up space.
Can I make that blink? Is that a thing Tumblr can do? Because, seriously. The sooner you believe you are allowed to take up space, the better life will be.
ROGUE ONE WAS AMAZING– and to show my love for the film that saved 2016– Here’s a new sticker set!! <3 (they also come in phone cases/notebooks so check them out!) Papercraft Rumi!! I busted out the holographic rainbow mirror paper for her patterns, glitter and shimmery silver stars for her hair, glitter pens for her makeup, and sequins for the background sparkles. This girl shines!
I may have pulled up a little late to the KPop Demon Hunters party but the party is INDEED as delightful as everybody said!!! The soundtrack has been playing on repeat in my head and in my headphones for the past week. :D

Is your Dungeons and Dragons character too happy? Are they too settled into their life and thusly require some kind of personal tragedy to motivate them to leave it and take up a life of adventuring? Try Primus Tachonis!
Primus Tachonis is an all-purpose personal tragedy creator sure to spur your character to adventure specifically so they can get his ass. Whether you need an old money asshole muscling in on an institution beloved to your PC or an evil sorcerer to slaughter their entire family Primus Tachonis has the magic and the social station to create whatever tragedy is required to serve your backstory.
Primus Tachonis is so versatile as a backstory tool he has professional D&D players raving:
Primus Tachonis killed my character's best friend and now she has to figure out who she is without him! -Laura Bailey I wrote a light backstory because I was still feeling out the setting and my dungeon master used Primus Tachonis to turn my brother into a statue! -Travis Willingham Primus Tachonis is trying to take over my character's magic school and endangering her students, and she will not have that! -Marisha Rey I had intended my character to have a tense but ultimately repairable relationship with his father, but then my DM used Primus Tachonis to rip his skull from his head. Now my character is on a quest to kill every member of Primus' noble house! -Matthew Mercer My character was a happy and established local playwright until Primus Tachonis had his little brother executed. Now he's taken up the sword again in his brother's stead! -Liam O'Brian I needed someone to murder my character's wife and daughter and my dungeon master suggested Primus Tachonis, and I couldn't be happier with the result! -Robbie Daymond Even works on members of his own family! -Alexander Ward
So don't miss out on the one-man solution to forcing your character to feel the call to adventure, try Primus Tachonis today!
ohhhh shit. target is recalling their up & up baby wipes (fragrance free & fresh cucumber scented) because they're contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli, multiple people are reporting discoloration & infections. i just got a call about it cuz i had purchased those but i've already gone through them 😅 so no refund for me. but im fine. if you have these they're saying you need to immediately stop using them and bring them back to target for a full refund. this bacteria can cause life threatening infections in children/infants and people with compromises immune systems (ESPECIALLY cystic fibrosis!!) and i know lots of other chronically ill people follow me!!!!

The Banners years.
You know, that Mythbusters post legitimately changed my life. Before seeing it, I had exponentially more guilt and stress about not being able to sleep, which of course, further exacerbated my inability to sleep.
Now, every time I wake up about three am, knowing I have to get up at 6.45, instead of stressing and panicking about how my day is going to be sleep deprived and miserable, I just tell myself 'Time to activate Mythbusters Protocol' and lie there with my eyes closed safe in the knowledge that I am measurably reducing later feelings of exhaustion.
And when this happens, about 70% of the time the reduction of guilt and stress means I actually do fall back asleep, so all in all instead of getting only three or four hours sleep, I get five to six and a half.
Which y'know, major improvement in health and energy.
On a related note, that post also opened up the world of naps for me. I used to think that napping was mostly pointless for me, because I'm pretty much incapable of falling fully asleep in the middle of the day. But when I redefined naps to include "lying down with my eyes shut for an hour," even if I just spent the whole time brainstorming fanfiction, that was often enough to get me from "exhausted and running on 4 hours of sleep" to energized and refreshed

The first rule of fandom is have fun. The second rule of fandom is find an enabler and become an enabler. Yes you should write that fic. What if it was even hornier? What if it was angstier? What if you wrote it just for me?
Related to this post by @captainofthetidesbreath but it's so funny to me to imagine that once Primus gets around to noticing he's been sent an alert from the security system about unauthorized persons in the vassal crypts, he digs through the records logged in the system for the night and it's just a long string of:
Occtis Tachonis has granted a fairy access to the manor grounds Occtis Tachonis has opened the door to the vassal crypts Occtis Tachonis has granted the protection of the family to Thimble of the Golden Orchard Occtis Tachonis has opened the Undercroft door in the vassal crypts Occtis Tachonis has closed the Undercroft door in the vassal crypts
+whatever Occtis gets up to next episode making use of the fact that no one bothered to deactivate his keycard to the house
