At the women’s march, a girl handed me a thin booklet demanding for equal representation of women in the arts in the school curriculum. The booklet had the amount (in percentage) of women taught about currently in art class, several examples of women that could replace the overrepresented men for each epoch and quotes by (art) teachers (and more but I gave mine to a friend so I can’t consult it anymore). As far as I know the school curriculum has not been changed (yet) but these girls did something!!

Having any call to action along with the information builds momentum even if you do fail to get your specific changes. Now people are angry, know their strength, know who opposed them, and are paying close attention for a chance to try again. 

Thanks to @womanispolitical for starting the discussion. She really hit on some fundamental truths of activism. It has got to eventually get active! With concrete projects and goals. But it is not easy.

Not everyone has to do the most, just some.

You did deserve so much better without having to fight for it.

It is a burden, and we will have to carry it together. But not one of us should feel guilt for feeling unready or tired.

there have been studies where they give pedophiles child porn or child sex dolls to see if the rates of physical offence decreases. it doesn't. there have been studies attitudes towards rape and inclinations (ie. 'if there were no consequences, would you force a woman to have sex?', 'do some women enjoy rape?'), and found that even as little as 3 hours of porn a week increases the desire for these things, and decreases the amount of empathy men have for women, especially rape victims.

when you portray women, real or cgi (we are talking near indistinguishable from real women at this point, their brains are telling them (or are going to tell them when the technology reaches its full potential) that this is a woman being abused, and they orgasm to that, and it informs their views on women in society and how we should be treated.

And to add to what ms hells bells talked about - are you not concerned with privacy issues either? Men create deepfakes. And the AI that generates porn was trained on thousands and millions of images - I don't think each one was harvested in an ethical way. How would you feel if revenge porn of you or your child was in this dataset and this type of AI generated gore or furry porn with your likeness?

AI images and deepfakes are created using pre-existing data (in this case, pictures of real people). Generally speaking, nothing stops men from creating deepfake porn featuring ordinary women and girls. The cute barista? The 15yo on the track team? The woman who sent her nudes to a guy? The international popstar? The little girl who turned 8 last month? No one is safe in a scenario where AI technology and the porn industry overlap. 

How can this be considered a win and not a dystopian nightmare? 

It was never a good argument in favor of porn, because women are just capitalizing off of what men did to them anyways, but when they can't even do that... Maybe they weren't "empowered" by being paid to do porn, but this DOES make women more powerless in the sex industry. They never held the same amount of money and power as the directors and hub owners.

I remember when that streamer was crying about how her image was used to make porn and brought up how she couldn't even make money off of it. Of course, men used this as an excuse not to feel sorry for her. "She's only upset because she didn't profit"? No, dingbats, but it was a social precedent y'all put in place to compensate for the abuse you put women through. You do porn, you get paid. Her image is used for porn, no compensation. Truly money is the only reward of porn and women wouldn't be doing it without getting paid. So when you take away that element? The one benefit women got? What's left? Abuse, invasion of privacy, rape, theft (of their likeness).

So... From a feminist perspective? This wouldn't even be a win on the side of the liberal feminists. All feminists agree this is a bad thing.

If they’re making a mature adaptions, it becomes sad, bland, and grimdark, and it’s filled with 4th wall breaking jabs at the original that make fun of the girlyness and fun it had, like this muddy grey slog of self serious dialogue and butchered characters is any better. If it’s meant for girls and made now, it just doesn’t have any fun to begin with. All the characters walk the perfect line of girly but not too girly and diverse in a mandatory power point presentation from HR way that shows demand.

That's fine I guess. But there's some important time sensitive information and knowledge tools that every woman needs. Put Robin Wall Kimmerer, Julia Steinberger, and Kate Raworth at the top of your reading list. Read through their work and make sure you understand it. And then you can go back to reading whatever it is you were reading before.

I picked those three women because they are economists with unique but complementary perspectives. We should not just be thinking and reading about patriarchy all day. We should also learn how systems science, energy, and thermodynamics shape all life. We should be learning about the complex web of life so we can forge a sustainable path into the future. That's the best weapon against an unsustainable system like patriarchy. We should design clever and resilient systems that can sustain women for thousands of years. Patriarchy is collapsing on its own. We need to let it go and embrace the future.

Our understanding of economics has to change.  But to change it, we have to understand that the current economic story is just not true. It basically describes the world in terms of markets. It starts with a just-so story about how one guy needed potatoes and another guy a pair of shoes, so they exchanged them.  This is the bullshittiest of bullshit premises, and yet none of our fucking current economic theory questions it.  

So I’d like to contribute to this post by saying that there’s a relatively easy to understand history of the last 300 years of economics history written by Maria Mazzucato called The Value of Everything, that I highly recommend. It’s so clearly written and referenced, ever single chapter was incredibly valuable.
