Kids books is probably not the best way to word it, you can enjoy them at every age, including your childhood, as you get older you may find new truths in them, but they're still good for any age.

I had a lot of people willing to read books too me (my bedtime stories were usually full-length novels read in sections of 10-15 pages every night), so I didn't immediately start reading for pleasure once I had the skill to read and comprehend a multi-chapter story by myself... which just means that I started at 9 years old and very quickly went from short chapter books to 300-page novels. I absolutely could have started younger.
