don't get me wrong, i see where people are coming from with this headcanon and i find it cool that a lot of aroace marvel fans see themselves in her, have even made her this kind of mascot for the community. but that's all it is, a headcanon.

and we need to stop policing people around for shipping her with literally anyone, man or woman, because the only thing that does is destructing fandom spaces for other people. everyone can have their own opinion on a character, but you need to be able to coexist with other people of other opinions.

With both classes and exams finished, the steady roll towards graduation continues smoothly, right up until the point when Sonya decides to kidnap Kate. ("Kidnapped isn't the right word," Kate had reassured her, via video phone. Sonya's arm wrapped around Kate's shoulder hadn't exactly inspired confidence in the words, but Kate had seemed remarkably at ease, despite calling from Italy. Despite having only just been in Providence that morning, preparing for the 'surprise' party Lerato and Antonia were throwing them. "She's calling in her poker favor, fair and square. Plus, it's a good bonding trip! And I haven't been to Florence in ages!") The timing is bad. Worse, when she'd said so, Sonya had been especially annoying about it (teasing her about codependency) and Kate entirely too unbothered (an annoyance of its own). Which is probably why — only a day later — she uses the exact word Kate had claimed to be the wrong one when she's explaining the situation to Greer and Franny, instantly undoing all the work Kate had (apparently) done to placate them. "Kidnapped?" Greer repeats, and then simply stands there — her mouth open — when Yelena nudges past her into the townhouse. "But — we talked to her. Or. She texted us to let us know that she'd be late for movie night, but it sounded like Kate! It sounded just like her! Ugh. Classic thing to happen, to be honest, though. Franny, Kate's been kidnapped!"

Yelena tried to be clinical about it, but it was like the warmth of Kate’s body radiated through the small distance between them; she was suddenly, acutely aware of every inch of space between them.

Her breath hitched. Just slightly. Just enough for Kate to notice and smile like she knew what Yelena had been thinking.

And then Kate moved to her waist, the tape sliding around the narrowest part of Yelena’s torso; her fingers brushed the bare skin where Yelena’s top had ridden up a little, and they both froze for a second. Yelena felt more than heard the sharp intake of Kate’s breath.

“Sorry,” Kate whispered, pulling her hand back.

“It’s fine,” Yelena said, her voice a little too hoarse.

Kate cleared her throat, red all the way from the tip of her ears down to her neck. It was cute. Yelena bit her lip to stop herself from smiling.
