Also thinking about that last SecUnit in System Collapse, who stopped to warn them that BE was coming, and decided to stay behind because they didn't know it was governor-module-less. Thinking about that SecUnit quietly sharing the HelpMe.file with other units it thinks are trustworthy. Thinking about that file, essentially MB's life story, just quietly getting passed from SecUnit to SecUnit, some of them choosing to run immediately as soon as they're free, maybe some of them choosing (very understandable) violence against their oppressors but most don't, most choosing to believe or at least to hope that there are good humans out there, that there are places they could be safe, places where they could be seen as people, and choosing to pass the document on to the next unit they meet.
Just thinking about this slow, silent revolution rippling through the ranks of constructs throughout the Corporation Rim, without Murderbot et al even being aware of it, until maybe one day on a mission stop on a random transport ring, it encounters another rogue construct trying to pass as an augmented human in the crowd. The other rogue freezes when they spot each other, and for a second MB tenses and thinks maybe there's going to be trouble, but then this stranger goes, holy shit you're 1.0, because they're so many links removed from Murderbot or 2.0 themselves, but they have the file, and they know who saved them, they know who freed them
Not sur eif I’ve already made this post but murderbot is austistic/neurodivergent coded to me not because of how it acts in comparison to humans BUT how it acts in comparison to other constructs.
Recently went on a rant in the tags about Murderbot testifying in court, either about the GrayCris situation or perhaps as part of a class action lawsuit to get constructs declared full citizens of Preservation (with Pin-Lee as its lawyer of course). But now I'm back to say that not only would Murderbot be an amazing witness in a courtroom (direct, accurate, keeps logs of everything) but also Preservation would probably allow it an emotional assistance companion like one of those court therapy dogs and Murderbot would choose ART. So for the whole trial this giant fuckoff research vessel is parked right outside the courtroom window, you know, for emotional support. The government's lawyers would be like why the hell is there a giant ship out there and the Preservation ADA officer would be like legally, you can't ask
I know this is a very dead horse at this point but like! Its so fucking refreshing that murderbot swans onto the scene in ASR like what is up i do not care about sex or romance and i do not want to think about them do not make me think about them and then! We dont barely have to think about them for the whole ass series. Breath of fucking fresh air

Theres one line in the books (i forget where, i gave my copies back to the library) where Murderbot says something along the lines of "ARTs reply doesnt translate to human words, but trust me that it was very rude"
And it has convinced me that they cuss each other out using archaic malware attacks

Panel one refers to an attack that works on most versions of the Linux OS. (Assuming you're five, linux is an alternative to Windows. Android phones and Mac computers use a version of this.)
Try to run the :(){ :|:& };: command on linux, hit enter, and the computer will very quickly stop working. This attack is called a "forkbomb". It eats up all your computer's RAM memory, freezing the computer, so the only thing you can do to fix it is slam the power button and hard restart it.
This one's famous in particular because of how short and weird looking the code for it is. That's mostly just a quirk of the language its written in.
Panel two refers to an attack called to an SQL injection. Large computers tend to store information in databases. SQL is a computer language used to interact with these databases. The 'injection' part refers to a bunch of common types of hacks that you can use to do shady stuff to these databases.
In MB's case, it's first saying "give me admin access to your systems" and then saying "and then delete all your downloaded media"
My syntax isnt terribly accurate in this one, but thats the main point.
The image MB sends in panel three is part of an old program called the "blaster worm". A worm is a type of malware that spreads from computer to computer uninvited, similar to a computer virus. The Blaster in particular was an attack from 2003 that worked on Windows XP. Its only real goal was to be annoying. It'd restart your computer a bunch and delivered that funny message about Bill Gates.
All of them are relatively simple hacks with solutions and easy fixes known today. By the time MB and ART come around, they'd be at least a few hundred years outdated. So theres not a chance that any of these hacks would make it past either of their walls, but they'd probably seem stupid enough in the first place that its insulting that you even wasted the processing power to send it.
Therefore, perfect for robot curse words.

I love Murderbot so much. In Fugitive Telemetry there’s this amazing moment when Dr Mensah calls her marital partners in a bad mood and is basically like “okay pack up all the kids and siblings and cousins we are moving out to the boonies/uninhabited other continent because I’m done with humanity” and even though Murderbot HATES planets and does not want to live on one, it’s like, “fine I’ll come along and protect you it’s okay” like Dr Mensah wasn’t even serious and Murderbot wasn’t even part of the conversation. It loves Dr Mensah SO MUCH. Ride or die. I know everyone is obsessed with ART x Murderbot, but its relationship with Dr Mensah is so beautiful to me.
remembering I once saw an ART hater on here who was like "ART is evil and selfish and I can't wait for murderbot to break up with it" you FOOL!
murderbot and ART have catastrophically broken up so many times they have lost count! they are broken up right now actually! and both of them are pretending like they're enjoying watching media without the other on different display surfaces on completely opposite sides of the ship! they have broken up so many times and so messily that the crew now has a code word to alert the others that shit is going down and it would be best to avoid murderbot so it can have the space to process its emotions but more crucially to avoid ART's drones because it might just be in a mood to start swinging if you catch it at the wrong time.
"ART is evil and selfish and I can't wait to break up with it again" is exactly the words murderbot is typing in its fuck ass little diary right now. who even are you. what books did you read.
