I do feel a bit in the trenches with white-balanced Mars images both in the sense that i prefer the true colour ones but also that i cannot comment on every 'wow mars looks so earth-like!' post with 'it looks earth-like because it's been white-balanced to show what the scene would look like under earth-like lighting conditions so the geologists can identify rocks better' bc that would make me the most annoying person alive
#there is nothing jpl loves more than to do a press release and only have the white-balanced version and i simply crave a true-colour mosaic#im sorry for vaguing but its not one specific post. there are a lot of them#also like mars does look earth-like in many ways! but it does have quite different lighting on account of (a) the diff radiative transfer#and (b) the dust#also god i wish more ppl gave image sources. different gripe but. please
