Something is missing from the debate over educationally suitable literature
The original link is broken so i found the working one:
Something is missing from the debate over educationally suitable literature
i love knitting socks and it does bother me when people tell me they are too beautiful to wear bc like. that is the point. im spending time making this thing to keep your feet warm and protected. yes my knitting is art but its also practical. yes it may wear out or rip but its a sock! they are meant to do that. all fabric wears out eventually and id rather someone wear holes in the objects i make and then throw them out when they are not useful as socks anymore then have them sit behind glass on display
Another 100g finished. 75/25 zwartbles/silk. Gradient dyed. Intended for warp. Spun straight through from end to end. The second braid I will break down into small strips and spin into a short repeated gradient skein and that one will be weft. This is the furthest I’ve ever gotten on a planned spin to weave project which is very exciting!

Is this not the cutest possible way to package a single rolag @milkweedman
:3 I thought so too, glad you like it lol
So way back when I first started blending up heather swatches I said I was going to make a guide out of all of them and I meant it!! I've spent the last few weeks photographing, color correcting, editing, and creating little color cards for each of the 99 color swatches. (I thought there were 100, I was wrong) Plus some color wheels and diagrams. It's a ton of work but has been very fun for me :) I plan to write up a little blog about the process of creating the heathers too, which is less fun for me. But I did take plenty of pictures as I worked so hopefully I can let the images do most of the talking.
I'm almost done with all the image editing which is great and exciting since that's the bulk of the project. I have a ton of other blog topics and experiments I want to run off and do, but I'm making sure I finish this first!
^Here are a couple of the color cards since I know they're hard to see in the screenshot. And don't worry, there will be a key letting you know which dye each color abbreviation refers to :^)
This work in progress is at least year old of not older
you may be wondering why I'm posting pictures of random towels and the answer is that I MADE them on a LOOM and it took me the better part of a year but they are DONE
they're a five-shaft waffle weave. it's kind of a shame that you can't see the structure of the waffles as well off the loom (they're very pretty), but they're so plush i'm not that fussed about it
please admire the waffles

TdF day 8!
Started on one of the batts I got the other day, Summer Sunset. Pulled it into roving as i find that makes it easier to keep the gradient. Planning on chain plying
how did you pull the batt into roving? Like which technique/which direction etc?
Up til now I have only ever ripped batts into vertical stripes which would be contraproductive to keep a gradient
Asking for my own batts I ideally manage to spin during the tour which need to keep their gradient
I roll it into a giant rolag and then pull along the length of the giant rolag so it’s more manageable to spin from
(I will probably do the same with the other batt, so if this is unclear remind me tomorrow and I’ll take pictures of the process)
sorry, I don't fully get in which direction you roll and pull?
Maybe you could take a few pictures of the process? That would be helpful.
I apologise for my terrible, ‘should have been sleeping’-time answer
First you have your nice pretty batt
And you unroll it
Then you reroll it lengthwise into a big rolag
Then you gently pull from one of the ends along the length of the big rolag
I then like to wind it into a rough ball for safe keeping
Thank you! Yes, now I get it and will try it out... although my batts are more compacted. I hope I can do it nonetheless.
Red-Bordered Emerald Moth (Nemoria lixaria)
This is one of my pieces up for auction to raise money for Gaza Soup Kitchen: https://www.32auctions.com/organizations/120568/auctions/186107/auction_items/6340324
(There is also so much other amazing art up for auction as well!)
Runs from Aug 15 to Aug 22nd.
Made some needle felted buddies this weekend.
My linen quilt is finished!! This was made from all leftover linen from garments i've made- i always get way too much yardage, whoops- except the black. I was planning on using the black for garment things but then i had this quilt idea, so, pivoted.
This was a beast but im so so happy with how it turned out. Shes very moody.
It was machine pieced but hand quilted. I really fell in love with hand quilting while making this! Throwing on an audio book and just sewing for 3ish hours in the evenings was lovely and calming.
And if you ever want to quilt with linen, spray starch is your best friend. Lots of spray starch.
Also a lil banner i whipped up after from an extra repeat block i had!
