These words are very difficult for my heart! This is what the doctor told us because of the suffering my siblings, my grandmother, and I endured from malnutrition and the extreme cold in the harsh tent. Thinking about it is exhausting and very difficult.
I feel as though our lives have ended in Gaza, especially since we have no mother or father with whom we feel some warmth or care.

i alternated between phrasing this more or less hatefully but i just really do not understand what draws any reasonable person to spirituality. ive only ever spoken to spiritual people who were in bad places and utilizing belief in the spiritual as a coping mechanism. which makes sense on its own, but then their attitudes towards atheism are really baffling and defensive. just like, don't you think it would be a bigger deal if consciousness could be extracted from the body and communicated with postmortem? if these communications were legitimate. you don't think that we would have harnessed this power at some point in history, or that it would have happened to everyone who's lost a loved one? (e.g., were people not visited by apparitions inadequately loving? inadequately deserving of a visitation by some metric? or are only certain spirits special?)
i think there's a point to it that i'm missing, but the lot of their attitudes seem to be "you either get it or you don't 😌" so i guess that is a conclusive don't
I actually think the point of a lot of spiritual practices and religions were to give names and metaphors for real human discoveries and behaviors before we really had the resources and technology to genuinely dissect and understand and give names to things.
Like- for example there is obviously no real science behind the idea of souls but there is science for things like- what happens when we die and the brain activity that still occurs after we are pronounced dead. There is weird scientific shit (a lot of which you can find discussed in interesting youtube video essays) where we have found things like “consciousness” in plants and such that can kind of be connected to the similar idea of a soul.
I like to think of it as like. The sky is blue. We can observe the sky is blue and know it pretty surely
but being scientific about it would involve actually measuring the exact shade of blue and for how long the sky is this shade of blue and how different factors like the time of day and weather alter what color the sky is.
I think another huge supporting factor of the idea of thing such as “the soul” is the fact that we have seen many cultures all over the world develop their own ideas and names around what is essentially the same concept. They all observe and give name to what is currently sort of an unknowable thing to science.

As of late, Ive been combing my mind for a project thats been stewing in my mind for the past few years.
So, I’m sort of soft-launching this concept for a webcomic.
This is Finn, and he comes from a world very adjacent to ours with similar socioeconomic and political issues (except on an intergalactic scale). In an instant, everything he ever knew and loved is gone when a nuclear bomb decimates his entire planet, leaving only Finn, a wasteland, and memories of a life he once lived.
Its something we will all experience one day, and something we experience everyday.
Change; the little death,
Or death; the big change.
Finn has to figure out how to survive, and get off the dying planet while fighting off the deterioration of his mind and radiation poisoning.

i have a friend who is frequently wacky and one of his favorite hobbies is to imagine a 3d model of a cow. he plays around with its resolution (making it more realisitic/more polygonal/etc) and the background (white/black/patterned/in a meadow/etc). and then he imagines the cow rotating along different axes and at different speeds. he has told me that he has spent hours at a time lying in bed and thinking about rotating a cow in his mind. he calls it “cowspinning”
