I came across a post of someone talking about Human Fomestication Guide, and I was curious about what that was and it led me to you. I can’t seem to find a concise explanation of what it’s about (but I can tell it’s about (alien?) plants taking over humanity and controlling them) I figured I’d ask you.

I’m more so wondering if it’s an AU of something or an original thing, anf where the original is.

Hi! Human Domestication Guide is a piece of original fiction I first published in 2021, and then updated on AO3 over the last few years. It can also refer to the setting more broadly (and the many fanworks that people have made within it!)

The setting itself can be viewed as a disability narrative which inverts the experience & trauma I have of being a disabled child (which sucked pretty hard) into "what if that systemic ableism but actually nice" through the lens of a science fiction/alien invasion story in which humanity is hopelessly outmatched and easily defeated by the Affini Compact, a society which has been space faring for ~100k years and controls most of the Local Group (sans some parts of the milky way and a few satellite galaxies) at the time of the story

The Affini seek to 'domesticate' both societies and individuals. That is to say, care for them and love them as pets (really more akin to a caregiver/little type relationship, but I was much shyer about that when I started writing!), even if these societies and individuals may reject this care at first. (I know that's not what domestication refers to in reality, but naming things is hard sjkdfhgsk)

@ms-teagan and I (as well as a number of very wonderful artists and authors!) have been working on revamping humandomestication.guide over the past half year as a better resource and introduction to the setting. Fingers crossed we'll have that done soon™, but unfortunately life and our disabilities have gotten in the way ^^'
