honestly advertising is so fukcing wasteful not even just in the convincing you to buy shit you never actually wanted but like
how much electricity is wasted displaying ads that could've gone to keeping houses warm. How much paper is produced just to be turned into pamphlets and ads that will just be thrown away. how much internet bandwith is wasted just on the amount of ads that are on the internet nowadays. How many hours worth of labor went into producing ads that are going directly into my adblocker or my waste bin that could've been time spent doing literally ANYTHING useful?

I hate ads so fucking much. They've almost never convinced me to buy something, and the more I see any one ad, the less I want to buy the fucking product. They're a waste of my time, a waste of the company's money, and a waste of the creators' efforts. You could've spent those resources on AMYTHING else, much less something productive, but instead you use it to remind me that your product that I don't want exists. Now nobody's happy, except whatever company you paid to smear your shit on their wall. Well done.
Side note, but I also live in NYC, and I hate how one of our biggest tourist attractions is literally just a glorified ad board that constantly burns enough energy to power 160,000 homes EVERY FUCKING DAY

we should globally ban the introduction of more powerful computer hardware for 10-20 years, not as an AI safety thing (though we could frame it as that), but to force programmers to optimize their shit better
