if you're confused about all the pumpkins and ghosts and stuff, it's actually a sort of seasonal harvest festival in parts of the northern hemisphere. yeah, it's kinda weird to think about how it's autumn down there when up here it's spring, haha yeah imagine them all, upside down, and getting colder in october when it's just starting to warm up
and can you imagine, down there it's COLD at christmas, crazy right?
that's nonsense, why would it be cold at christmas, it doesn't even make sense? that's a festival about the birth of something??? obviously that happens in summer.
Excuse me?! What you guys doing calling the northern hemisphere "down there"?! We're north. That's UP on a map when it's oriented properly.
what the fuck are you talking about?
"We need to end mass-migration! We're becoming too crowded!"
Immigration has been declining year after year after a temporary post-COVID spike so there is no "mass-migration" happening at all. It's a normal amount.
Australia's population growth is slowing down to a record low of 1.3% - in part thanks to a decrease in migrant arrivals and increase in migrant departures.
Yeah, migrants aren't causing a population crisis. Even if we disregard all the economic benefits of migrants, how they make up a significant proportion of vital industries like healthcare and construction, then the bare basic maths just demonstrates migrants are not causing a strain on our population.
So why do right wing parties dislike migrants? Simple: they need someone to throw under the bus to distract from how their own policies don't benefit regular Australians and migrants can't vote so they can attack them as much as they like.
Don't be gullible. Don't fall for anti-immigration propaganda.
"I learned a lot from making this" is artist talk for "making this sucked ass and I'm not entirely happy with the result."
My phone sometimes does this "1 year ago" thing where it plays a reel of old photos to jazzy music, but I don't take all that many photos, so in practice my phone just sometimes offers me jazzy music over a series of context-free nearly identical photos of the neighbour's cat.
Occasionally I am reminded that I went somewhere a year ago when the music plays over context-free nearly identical photos of a different cat.
Help I'm choking on my toast

Hannah Montana is fucked up because its entire POINT as a show is that children should be protected from fame and exploitation, but it stars a REAL little girl that's being exploited. Nearly every episode carries the looming threat of Miley being outed as Hannah and losing her peaceful teenage life to the ravages of fame. Her father in the show (played by her own father in real life) wisely protected her from the trauma of fame by making her wear a disguise and live a rather quiet, interview-free life. Meanwhile the REAL Billy Ray Cyrus sold his daughter to Disney Channel when she was 11 and forced her to read dialogue about how terrible it would be to face the public eye. Like... Jesus, dude. The fictional Robby Ray is 10x the father, and it's not even close. (It's also IMMENSELY funny that her dad doesn't use his real name in the show, while she does. Almost like he wanted a bit of a disconnect between his identity and his character. Something Miley didn't get.)
i think i saw a movie like this once
Ok I needed to know the story and
Guy makes a really stupid decision and gets in a car accident -> no real damage from accident but insurance goes up -> starts beating himself up over his stupid decision -> gets depressed -> starts to realize he's single and had crash been worse he'd die alone -> realizes he's never had a relationship or even a crush and starts wondering what he'd want out of a relationship -> starts to realize he doesn't really like girls so he thinks he must be gay -> realizes he likes girls and boys about the same amount, so he must be bi -> later realizes that "same amount" is none at all -> he's ace
I love how some fics are called shit like "They Only Shoot The Birds Who Cannot Sing" and it's like the most insane porn you're ever read and then some fics are called Spit On Me and it's 18,000 words of the most achingly id-scratching prose you've ever read and they're both. They're both so fucking good. thank God for fanfiction.

1300-1400 clothing of Lower Empire
The Byzantine Empire, that is.
Oh FUCK
My eyes have just fallen out of my head because of this gorgeous fabric.
Because one can never get enough visuals of medieval clothing …
I think if you want to understand bigotry against aromantics, I have a good case study. Let me talk a little about my dad's family.
My dad has 4 half siblings and two step siblings. They're all a decent bit younger than him. When I was a teenager, we went to a family reunion, and I realized something—my dad did not respect his siblings. He looked down on all of them. He saw them as fuck-ups and overgrown children. My dad had the American dream: well paying management job, suburban house, wife, and three kids. My aunt and uncles did not. Excluding my aunt, none of them were married or in serious relationships. They hadn't really settled into long term careers. Several of them were working the kind of jobs that get called "Unskilled labor." So he looked down on them because the youngest one was in his thirties (and several were much older), and yet none of them had "settled down" into what he saw as lifelong, permanent careers and relationships and lives. He was polite to their faces, sure, but I heard how he talked about them behind their backs, to my mother.
And then a few years ago, we visited his brothers again for Thanksgiving. And I realized something again--he respected them now. He saw them as equals. Why? Well. All of a sudden, every single one of them had serious, committed romantic partners. They didn't even need to still be with those partners—one of my uncle's fiance passed away from cancer before they could marry—just having had one showed that they matured into a real adult participating in society. In fact, at one point, my aunt was telling my mom about how one of my uncles was no longer living in an apartment she owned, but instead, after having a steady girlfriend for about a year, he moved in with her. And my mom literally said to my aunt, "wow. Look at that. He finally grew up."
One of the lines that frequently gets repeated about anti-aspec sentiment is "why would anyone hate asexuals/aromantics/etc? They aren't even doing anything." And that's exactly it. In the eyes of amatonormative culture, we aren't doing anything. Adults are supposed to do things. That's how you become a member of society.
I know that my father will never see me as a successful adult. He will never approve of my life. And I think most people would assume that that's because I'm trans. And don't get me wrong, he sure as shit doesn't like or respect that, but I do think if given enough time, he would get used to it. He would eventually realize that it isn't going away. And if I settled down with a spouse and a respectful job and a few kids, he could see me as a successful adult that he could be proud of anyway. But of course, that's not going to happen. Because I'm aromantic. So I'm never going to do that one thing that signifies that his job is complete, and I'm officially a full-fledged adult. I will perpetually be that fuck-up kid who won't settle down. In my personal case, that's okay. My dad is a conservative piece of shit, and if he doesn't approve of you, that just means you're doing something right. But on a societal level? This kind of attitude is a massive problem. Aromantics deserve to be treated like adults, and to feel like the accomplished adults that they are. We should feel like we belong in society.
there are people with genders you will never comprehend and people fucking in ways you will never understand and people making art you just don't get and that shit RULES

Hey, did y'all see this?
I saw this when running newpipe. But wait, it gets deeper. I clicked on the details buttons and it said as of today, we have 83 days left until Google rolls out this new requirement for apps inside and outside of the google play store. If any developer disagrees with their new terms and fees, they will be blocked!
I'll share some of the info below:
Looks like they're trying to nuke the remaining privacy and freedoms we have left on the internet.
What to do?
-Get your developer friends to not comply to their new guides
- Sign the open letter on the site and take action by checking out the full resources list on their website as well!
To summarize, this is all daunting especially when you feel all alone with unfair and inhumane regulations comming out faster than improvements but we got this working together!
Share the link with your friends, family and anyone who will listen!
Your phone is about to stop being yours. In September 2026, Google will block every Android app whose developer hasn't registered with them.

A German regional court has ruled that Google is directly liable for the content of its AI search overviews. According to the court, previou
Let’s fucking go
This is HUGE.
1. The court holds Google responsible for statements made by its AI, considering them Google's statements (search engines have limited liability for results in their engine as they're the words of other sites/companies/people), meaning when their AI lies/hallucinates they're liable for the defamation/harm resulting from those statements.
2. Google's defense that customers are generally aware of the lack of reliability and are responsible for fact checking was dismissed. As the court pointed out, that would "significantly diminish" AI Search's stated purpose and it can't be distinguished from Google's business practices/statements as a search tool.
3. Studies have found about 91% of Google's everyday AI responses are accurate, leaving millions of searches per HOUR with potential liability for falsehoods. 56% of correct responses weren't supported by the sources the AI listed. Both of which mean Google is now liable for a LOT more AI "errors."
4. Google was held liable for 80% of court costs in this case and this precedent is expected to reverberate around the world. This is a massive shift from the 3rd-party search provider role Google has previously played and it comes right as they've tied ALL searches to their AI search.
TL;DR Google reeeeeally stepped in it this time.
Additional source and more details below. Absolutely thrilled to say that this is real. And yeah, it's huge.
For all the reasons above AND ALSO because this particular lawsuit is a defamation case
Privacy lawsuits are hard because most privacy laws are super super weak, and there's very rarely a lot of money or enforcement backing privacy laws for...twenty million reasons, really...
But defamation suits? Those have teeth.
(In large part because, at least in some countries and including in the US, defamation laws protect public figures the least - and "public figures" legally includes most if not all politicians, and a hell of a lot of other rich ppl too)
A Munich court ruled Google's AI Overviews are its own words, making it liable for false claims, a decision that, if it holds, could reach e
A German court has ruled that Google can be held directly liable for false claims made by its AI Overviews, a decision that could put a serious legal dent in the whole “the AI made me do it” defense. According to The Next Web, the Regional Court of Munich issued a temporary injunction after Google’s AI Overviews wrongly tied two Munich publishers to scams, subscription traps, and dubious business practices. The court treated those AI-generated summaries as Google’s own statements, not just ordinary search results pointing to third-party pages. That distinction matters. Search engines have traditionally had more protection because they index and link to other people’s content. AI Overviews changes the machinery. Google is not just showing the web anymore. It is summarizing it, rewriting it, and sometimes apparently hallucinating a tiny legal grenade into the results page.
-via Search Engine World, June 10, 2026
This is good.
Google made their AI overviews a part of their search engine product specifically so people wouldn't have to actually click the links. They went from "here's a list of places what you're looking for might be" to "this is the information you're looking for."
And when you do that, you're taking responsibility for it. If google wants to play the editorial-summation game, part of that is going to be taking lumps when those editorials are slanderous or otherwise cause harm.
Really, that's the sane way to handle AI-related issues. Policing what can be prompted or generated has strong free speech issues, and while I recognize some limits are pragmatically required, anything that comes out of a generator is functionally a private sketch, doodle, or note until someone decides to publish it. Once published, any responsibility for the nature of the material falls upon the person who published it, and should be treated the same as any other similar piece of analogue material by the law.
Changing general topics for the comparison: If someone uses Midjourney to infringe a Disney copyright, or Suno an RCI one, or whatever, and they don't publish it, that's no different than someone doing that in a sketchbook or a private recording.
If I publish a cover of a song my grandparents danced to at their wedding and put it up for others to listen on youtube without paying the Music Industry vig, I'm the one they'd go after, not Ableton Live for making the software I used to do it, or Fender for making the guitar I used.
As long as there's a potential legal use of the generated novel data, and fair use provides plenty, addressing an issue with art at the art-tool level infringes the rights of the people who would use it that way. I tend to favor the expression right of the individual over the vague claims of financial harm by corporations, especially in these situations.
But the legal efforts are aimed where the money is, not where the fault is. Which is how the media giants like it, because if they have to go after individual people, every instance is a chance for their rent seeking to become a public relations nightmare like in the napster days.
Swinging back to Google, under these principles, google has very clearly taken responsibility for the nature of their AI summations by taking on the role of publisher. If you publish something slanderous or dangerously incorrect without human oversight, that doesn't get you off the hook. Google decided to become, in essence, a news source, and that's cool. It can do that, but it puts itself under the same rules as other news sources when it does so.
Not that Google wasn't acting as a publisher before, but Google's other ways of manipulating your search results for their own ends, like secretly adding "for sale" to searches behind the scenes, it's neutering of its own image search features and google cache, and prioritizing advertising partner and sales results over informative ones (all pre-AI lobotomies of a once very useful utility) were sadly too vague for courts to latch onto. The situation here is less obscured by technological plausible deniability and action was thus possible.
