Yeah…..I LOVE Lux (like genuinely really really love it) but still….while it generated initial critical chatter it doesn’t seem to be maintaining longevity or to have broken mainstream as much as hoped. Like—people don’t seem to be going back to that album at all.

Same with Raye’s album, though where is my husband’s hit success seems to put Raye in a slightly better position, comparatively

I think Ophelia is genuinely one of the only good mainstream melodic songs released this period. It is very infectious, incredibly catchy, and most consistent hit (still top 25 on spotify 10 months later). Call Showgirl a flop idc on all metrics, I agree, but Ophelia is definitely deserving of a nom, if not a win.

Completely mutilates Ophelia’s agency and is….not a well written song. Sorry. I wouldn’t riot or anything of it won, but Tame Impala’s Dracula ft. Jennie, or multiple of Olivia Rodrigo’s songs would make more sense as a win personally

If we’re being completely honest it SHOULD be Man I Need by Olivia Dean, but releasing it at the end of August last year screwed her over in that regard

controversial stance but i do wish i could live forever. i certainly live like i'm going to live forever. i take my time. realistically however my lifespan is dreadfully limited and there are things i've "been meaning to do" that i will never get around to. the Emoji Movie came out almost 10 years ago. in all that time on any random day i could've decided to sit down and watch it, and i did not. how many more decades will slip by like this? conceivably, it could be all the decades i have left. watching the Emoji Movie would not be, after all, a crucial use of my time. much better things to do. i could easily postpone it over and over and over until my final breath where it may not even register to me that i never did watch the Emoji Movie. no great loss, certainly; and yet i find myself intrigued by Patrick Stewart's involvement

It’s because of this weird brand of feminism only found on TikTok. I wish I saved the video so I could link it but someone was pointing out how the peak of feminism for loads of women on TikTok is posting a picture of themselves and then a woman in Afghanistan with this random “there is a woman in Somalia” song and then they get millions of likes. I’m fully convinced it’s racism because if you hate on Islam for any valid reason then I better see you hating judt as hard if not harder on Christianity and if you don’t you’re just racist. Just to clarify I’m not endorsing targeting any follower of any religion for their beliefs it’s just double standards. Same thing with how some people were asking that Mamdani not be allowed at the 9/11 memorial service. Okay then I better never see a Christian in any country where they stripped away all the culture and forced people to accept their religion.

I do think you hit on a very valid & fair point—because it’s interesting how when making feminist monologues or speeches or what have you, Muslims can be disproportionately criticized & the religion pointed to as this oppressive thing—especially online—when it’s not like Christianity is clean from this (See: their views on abortion, among many others). It’s absolutely a double standard

(Sorry if this sounds confrontational or like I’m trying to make you say something so I can hate on you 😭 just curious) Also I just feel like in general TikTok is getting really Islamophobic and I don’t mean in a way where we’re criticizing every religion for its contribution to the patriarchy but like not seeing an issue in certain places banning wearing a hijab in universities etc.

You’re all good. No—I don’t think all women who feel the need to wear modest clothes on the beach are victims.

But I do think a key difference between liberation & oppression here is how much choice in the matter women get to have about it. So if a girl will be targeted, prosecuted, or (in extreme cases) executed for choosing not to wear modest clothing…. that’s a form of oppression and a way to try and control her. But if she has a genuine say in the matter that won’t put her at risk of harm or exile, and she wants to dress modestly or wear a hijab for cultural or religious or whatever reasons… that can be liberating. But it needs to be her choice, without government or family or community interference.

And on TikTok….that’s troubling, especially for universities who preach inclusion, only to be hypocrites. Banning a hijab is ultimately doing the same thing as those who force women to wear one at all times—they’re taking (or trying to take) ownership over what a girl is allowed to wear. And in the cases where a woman doesn’t have a say in her attire, universities are not doing her a service by banning it—all they’re doing is harming her ability to get an education, excluding her
