i am so here for the pirates of the caribbean renaissance that i watched all movies back to back and i must say the entertainment value and cultural contribution cannot be overstated. it's simply beyond engaging. like give me a sword, a treasure chest, and a green apple right now. the costumes, set design, plot speed, humor, music, feeling, character arcs, incorporation of backdrops... it's just ludicrous how many audiences it can appeal to with its thousand facets. the villains are stunting with style and the obsessive protagonists never stop moving. every supporting role could launch a story of their own (gibbs, tia dalma, sao feng, pintel and ragetti, priest and mermaid...), that's how fleshed out they are. it obv has blind spots but the ideas fly like sparks and both the practicality and cgi are still unmatched. hate to say it, but it's the best thing disney ever pulled outside animation, with superior budget use that gives back to the viewer through S-tier worldbuilding (any of us would be the most exhausted person alive being an actor in this franchise. the endless stunts??). the entire internet and my family still quote the movies. potc even proves that the 'people have no attention span anymore' cry is a myth to put consumers down because you are glued to this start to finish since the unreal commitment of the crew and cast gives it a reason to be a worthwhile watch. also geoffrey rush - i looked it up, ofc he's a theatre trained character actor - needs his own series.
