Really annoyed with the new USPS rate hike. It shouldn't cost $8 to ship a $5 zine, but here we are. I use pirateship.com for our shipping service, but it only allows to ship at package rate. I can use Media Mail, but no one knows how that works. I can only ship books, zines, and records with it and no one knows that. They would just see a lower price and not understand what can actually be shipped at that rate or that rate can take 2-3 weeks to get to you. If you put one ad or one sticker or buttons, they will not deliver it.
Technically, most of our orders can be shipped with the large envelope or "flats", and our website has that option, but pirateship does not because they focus on packages for e-commerce. I was able to contact them to get export rate for out of the country turned on for our account, but they don't offer first class probably because it doesn't come with tracking.
I have a few ideas and I'd like to know your thoughts. Would you purchase something if the shipping was cheaper but you do not receive tracking? I could just go full on stamp weirdo and put stamps on everything going first class, or I could use a service that requires a subscription, but it might be worth it? What I will not do is stand in the fucking line at the post office.
