okay, so on one side we have belize and louis who, we are informed, hate each other. specifically belize can’t stand louis especially after he leaves prior, and you totally believe this with their interactions. belize just about puts up with louis, and forgives him, but he never likes him, except that’s just unfathomable because they hang out all the fucking time!? how often do you do lunch dates - one on one lunch dates! - with someone you barely tolerate, let alone actively despise? so they’re frenemies, except ALSO the implication is they know each other through Prior and mostly put up with each other for his sake - and yet even in one of the two scenes where all three are on stage together, they are just arguing with each other again. Prior Is Not A Subject. (Also, from Prior’s perspective is it not just a little odd that his best friend and his ex are hanging out on the reg? I guess he’s fine with that as long as he knows Belize is reading Louis for all he’s worth in their meetings, but somehow that’s even weirder, like ‘oh yeah keep meeting up with my ex who you’ve known for over three years but give him hell from me’ how is this not a recipe for emotional ruin, prior)

and then we have the utter mindfuckery of joe’s mother being in his ex’s friendship group by the end of the play. I mean where do we start with that. louis is never speaking to him again, but presumably joe still, you know, talks to his mother who now lives in the same city as him. when does he find this out? does he ever? how does he deal?! when do we get the revelation from LOUIS that he’s been having discussions about the soviet union with his ex’s mother?!
