#SHE DID THAT!
I have been waiting all year to post this.
omg
This has been in my queue for months.
I missed it last year and I vowed that would NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.
omg i didnt reblog this last year!
sometimes Iām likeĀ āmy therapist doesnāt really tell me anything I donāt already knowā but then I remember that I used to eat scrambled eggs every single morning because I hated them but I hated them less than I hate all other breakfast food on weekdays (donāt @ me waffles are a weekend food and they Do Not start me on a productive path) and my therapist said,Ā āwhy not eat a lunch food?ā
and I said,Ā āexplainā
and she said,Ā āyou know youāre allowed to eat whatever food you want in the morning. you are not bound by law to the traditional american breakfast.ā
my fatherās insurance pays a hundred dollars an hour for a woman to give me permission to eat a pb&j at six in the morningĀ
I want a story about an Italian vampire.
No romance, no action.
Just 200 pages of āWhat do you mean, I canāt have garlic? Do you know where Iām from?ā
TBH I think the main issue would be the mirror thing
have you ever met an Italian man
the amount of time they spend looking in the mirror jfc
#the more you think about it the more all vampire rules are just anti-italian rules#canāt go out in sunlight?? IN ITALY???#Canāt go near crucifixes? IN ITALY???
a bunch of pissed off vampires stuck in Venice because they canāt go over moving water
Not to victim blame, but youād have to be a pretty bad Italian to even get turned into a vampire in the first place.
the only two places practically immune to vampires are texas and italy
Let me tell you of A Thing.
Lithuania has noĀ vampires, I guarantee it.

You have the power to heal others. You are a villain.
I am the American healthcare system
Iām making dinner, listening to the latest Story Corps episode, and when the dad told their daughter āIām not myself except in relation to youāthatās the starting point for me. The first thing in line; my first identity is as your fatherā is making me cry into this minced garlic
Wow.

Can we figure out a way to do this to student loan debt.
I would read Ayn Rand to pay down my student loans
Our library ran the expenses and realized we spent about 3,000$ MORE than what we got back in trying to collect late fees. So? We dropped them completely. No late fees. Period.
If you keep a book, it auto renews two times. Then it comes up as overdue. If your overdue items exceed a certain amount, your account freezes. You canāt use any of the local libraries anymore until you return the items or claim them lost and pay for them. If someone else is waiting for the book, you canāt renew. Its that simple.
And guess what. Not only did we save money, but we /got more materials back/. More materials were turned in than declared lost as compared to before. There was no stigma to it. If you had already paid for the item, the money was credited back to you.
Because the people late fees actually affected were children and elderly adults - people unable to regularly get to the library. And the stigma of late items was dropped. Attitude and mindset are important.
we still have no late fees. And we are considered to be one of the top public systems in our state. People from out of state PAY to get library cards for a year because our online Overdrive system is amazing, and we have a ton of partnerships and interlibrary loan systems in place. AND we suffer less losses of both materials and patrons due to our āno late feeā policy.
Serve your public. Donāt belittle them.
The zombie outbreak started 2 years ago now you find yourself cornered by a decaying zombie when you do the unthinkable and bite it first when it falls to the floor and grows its skin back and sits up and asks what is going on
This may be the best subversive idea for zombie apocalypse stories i think Iāve ever seen.
āHow the fuck did you know that would work?ā
āI didnāt, dude, I just fucking panicked.āĀ
Happy Fossil Friday! The Museumās Stenopterygius quadriscissus is world-famous because of the well-preserved outlines of this ichthyosaurās skeletal structure as well as softer body parts. Whatās an ichthyosaur, you say? Itās an extinct air-breathing animal with a body shape that closely resembled that of todayās fast-swimming fishes, such as the tuna. This specimen is an ichthyosaur that died while giving birth to live young. Get a closer look at a fossil flipper of another ichthyosaur in our new exhibition, Unseen Oceans, and follow it up with a visit to this full ichthyosaur fossil in the Hall of Vertebrate Origins!

The Largest Portrait in Hawaiiās History.
Internationally renowned artist and friend of Supersonic ArtĀ Kamea Hadar just completed a 14-story portrait of the Hawaiian Goddess of the Moon, Hina - The largest portrait in the stateās history (and arguably the most beautiful).
āIt was inspired by the sacred canoe Hokulea and its historic journey around the earth named āMalama Honuaā which translates to āCaring for Our Island Earthāā explains Hadar of the portrait that faces outwards towards Pearl Harbor. Ā āThe voyage not only pushes the boundaries of non-instrumental navigation (using only the sun, waves, winds, stars, birds, etc to navigate) but, also, was a voyage of spreading awareness of taking care of our precious earth and its natural resources. Ā I did a series of projects honoring Hokulea when she left on Malama HonuaĀ and I wanted the piece to be a guiding light for Hokuleaās return, [finishing it] only a few weeks before they arrived safely home after more than three years at sea.ā
Take an extended look at the epic muralās creation along with a short video on the project below:

and here you are, continuing on, despite how hard itās been
ultimately i think kindness is the most radical thing you can do with your pain and your anger. itās like, you take everything awful thatās ever been done to you, and you throw it back in the worldās teeth, and you say no, fuck you, iām not going to take this. Ā you say this is unacceptable. you say that shit stops with me.
humans are fucking terrible and this awful world we live in will fucking kill you but if you are kind, if you are brave and clever and try really hard, you can defy it. you can impose on this bleak and monstrous structure something beautiful. even if itās temporary. even if it doesnāt heal anything inside you thatās been hurt. Ā
iām gonna sleep and iām gonna wake up and i swear by everything in this deadly horrible universe iām gonna make someone happy.Ā
iāve seen a number of comments and tags where people feel that they must swallow or repress their anger in order to engage in kindness. that is not at all what i am recommending here. radical kindness is an expression of anger. it is not passive. it is not repressive. it does not require you, in any way, to forgive those that have fucked you up. it does not require you to be quiet.Ā
it just requires that you be kind. viciously. vengefully. you fight back. you plant flowers. give to charity. play games. pet someoneās dog. scream into the dark. paint and write and dance, tell jokes, sing songs, bake cookies. you have been hurt and you donāt have to deny that hurt. you just have to recognize it in other people, and take their hand, and say: no more. enough. fuck this. no more.Ā
have a cookie.
i will say this again: we are all going to die. the universe is enormous and almost entirely empty. to be kind to each other is the most incredible act of defiance against the dark that i can imagine.Ā
i will say this again: we are all going to die. the universe is enormous and almost entirely empty. to be kind to each other is the most incredible act of defiance against the dark that i can imagine.
1. The universe is indifferent. We ought not be.
2. A good quote:Ā There are two kinds of people. Those who think, āI donāt want anyone to suffer like I did.ā And those who think, āI suffered; why shouldnāt they?ā
3. Two good quotes by Kurt Vonnegut: āHello babies. Welcome to Earth. Itās hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Itās round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, youāve got a hundred years here. Thereās only one rule that I know of, babies-āGod damn it, youāve got to be kind.ā
And: āBe soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place.ā
Another good quote:
āI. THIS IS NOT A GAME.
II. HERE AND NOW, WE ARE ALIVE.ā
You can be kind and fuel it with rage. You can be kind and fuel it with a bitter twist, or you can be kind and fuel your kindness with righteous anger, or you can be kind and fuel it with love or spite or ecstatic joy. And no matter what your fuel is, you still can make kindness happen in the world so that people can warm themselves by it.
Kindness isnāt an emotion, kids. Thatās the thing. Kindness is action. Kindness is choosing to take your emotions and channel them towards doing the most good where you can; to choose the targets of your actions carefully; to spread a little joy behind you, when you have a little to spare.
Kindness can mean a gentle word or a shouted imperative. It can be a warm meal or a gentle hug or a clean death. Kindness can manifest in many ways, and not all of them are one hundred percent nice. The kind thing to do may be doing nothing at all.Ā
But kindness is, above all else, an action. We are imperfect humans, and we cannot control our emotionsābut we can control what we do as a result. We can control the actions that our emotions and experiences propel us to perform.Ā
The darkness is nothing but the absence of light, you know. It is endless and nihilistic and all enveloping. A lit candle has no hope against it.
But if enough of us light small candles and little matches behind us as we walk through this wide, uncaring universe, we can light up that sky. We can take an empty world and we can fill it with each other.Ā
Thatās how we can take the bones of an empty universe and forge a warm hearth fire humanity can use to keep back the night.Ā
But kindness is, above all else, an action. We are imperfect humans, and we cannot control our emotionsābut we can control what we do as a result. We can control the actions that our emotions and experiences propel us to perform.
Iām also a fan of Camus:
āIn the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer.Ā And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, thereās something stronger ā something better, pushing right back.ā
