Project Hail Mary (2026) + Letterboxd reviews
this is a bug
Creature that looks like it was made by a tumblr poll where 40% of people voted βeyeβ and 5% voted βlegβ
It's a mouse-deer, the smallest hoofed mammal in the world. They live in tropical forests in Southeast Asia.
We call them 'Kancil' in Indonesia and Malaysia. They're the main character of many of our traditional fables (typecast as clever/sly lil bastard)
So, so gratifying to know that the ecological niche and the folklore role are shared for both rabbits and mouse deer. Guess you gotta be slick to be a tiny thicket herbivore.
This is incredible to learn, because I've spent a lot of time watching Dik-dik in Kenya (temperate grassland),
and these things are 100% running in the same lane as jackrabbits

People die on the job every summer. Remember that water and shade breaks are crucial when working in the heat, and calling emergency services for signs of serious heat illness (fatigue, nausea/vomiting, headaches, dizziness, clammy skin, confusion, agitation, slurred speech, high body temperature, rapid heart rate, etc.) is entirely appropriate. If youβre afraid to call 911 for reasons such as being undocumented, youβll need to get very familiar with how to prevent, recognize, and treat heat illness. If you are symptomatic and not allowed a break, water, or medical treatment, walk out. No matter how broke you are, your job is not worth your life.

Okay but imagine being the team of Eridian scientists tasked with keeping Erid's Only Human alive for as long as possible while the whole planet's environment is literally trying to kill him. And then Rocky shows up and is like:
βGrace says he would like half of dome to be water.β
βOh, is necessary for humans to have large amounts of water question?β
Small Eridian equivalent of a sigh. βNo. Not needed for life. In fact Grace will die if he falls in water and does not get out.β
βTell him we give him water in containers that won't kill him. Lots lots lots of water on Erid for Grace to drink.β
βNo. Grace say he want water on ground. Also want it with excess sodium chloride compound so it will be unhealthy for drink.β
βWHY QUESTION???β
To celebrate Erid getting their sun back on track, Grace asks for some alcohol. There's a small amount left from the Hail Mary and Rocky offers to take it to the science Eridians to see if they can synthesise more.
βGrace want this liquid for celebration.β
βOf course.β They scan it. βYou have wrong liquid. This contain compounds which are poisonous for humans.β
βYes yes yes. Grace say humans like feeling of being slightly poisoned.β
βWHY QUESTION?????β
Grace is like one of those extremely finicky tropical fish who instantly die if not kept in extremely specific conditions.
Only here the fish can talk and keeps asking you to make it vodka.
alright I've got to do some quick math to explain attitudes towards AI to my boss.
we're looking to create an AI policy, and when we were talking about this, my boss (older millennial) was genuinely shocked to hear that younger people do not (seem) to view AI positively (a la the recent commencement speakers being booed)
please rb for larger sample size!
Question 1/3
What is your age, and do you feel AI is a net positive or net negative in our lives today?
under 18, AI is a net positive
under 18, AI is a net negative
18-29, AI is a net positive
18-29, AI is a net negative
30-45, AI is a net positive
30-45, AI is a net negative
46-60, AI is a net positive
46-60, AI is a net negative
over 60, AI is a net postive
over 60, AI is a net negative
Question 2/3
How often do you visit or interact with museums/archives (whether in person or online)?
Frequently (multiple times per month)
Often (multiple times per year)
Occasionally (a couple times per year)
Rarely (once every couple of years)
Never :(
Question 3/3
If you saw a museum was using AI in exhibits, marketing, research, etc., would you be more or less inclined to visit that museum?
under 18, more inclined
under 18, less inclined
18-29, more inclined
18-29, less inclined
30-45, more inclined
30-45, less inclined
46-60, more inclined
46-60, less inclined
over 60, more inclined
over 60, less inclined
Thank you for helping with this data collection. Please rb for as big a sample as possible!

Can I be honest with yall I don't want to hear SHIT against cishets at pride this year
"But it's not FOR them!!!" The biggest military power in the world belongs to a christofascist nation overseen by a felon found guilty of 34 federal crimes and has greenlit a gestapo with more direct funding than the entire military of Canada for the purpose of ethnic cleansing. Let Hetero Jessica throw some biodegradable glitter at a municipal parade
At this point if anyone is trying to exclude anyone benignly pro-queer from a pro-queer space I'm just going to assume you're a fed or something idk like something something destabilize the movement from within or whatever
Also, never forget that not only do we need cishet allies to get anything done, but YOU DON'T KNOW WHO'S CISHET AND WHO'S CLOSETED. The moment you say "no cishets" you also say no to anyone questioning or not out.

October 3, 1992:Β Sinead OβConnor appeared on Saturday Night Live singing anΒ acapella cover of Bob Marleyβs song βWarβ, changing some of the lyrics to include references to child abuse, and ending the performance by tearing up a photo of Pope John Paull II and saying βfight the real enemyβ.
This ruined her career and she was telling the truth, as we all came to find out years later.
Please remember she didnβt consider it as a career ruiner.Β
To speak on how itΒ βruinedβ her career ignores her own feelings on it. Please acknowledge how she felt about it, instead of how you see it.
Iβm kinda surprised that nalbinding isnβt as popular as crochet and knitting tbh because it has an even lower barrier of entry tools wise and unlike crochet and knitting it makes fabric that you can cut.
I guess itβs because itβs slower or something.
Nalbinding aka needle binding is when you use yarn and a big sewing needle to make fabric btw
It also has a lot of different kinds of stitches you can do that make different densities of fabric.
Some people even make rugs.
I feel like part of it might be casual people are generally aware of the existence of crochet and knitting, even if they donβt know very much about either, but have never heard of nalbinding
Yeah I hadnβt heard of it until recently and I ordered a big bone needle for myself to try it out and that should be arriving soon.
I was surprised that Iβd never heard of it though. Itβs older than knitting and crocheting and even though itβs been done all over the world itβs super relevant to Nordic culture and my grandmother and I are both into keeping in touch with our roots a bit so Iβm surprised Iβve never heard of it.
It seems like the sort of thing that would be popular even if not as popular as crocheting and knitting, considering the low barrier of entry.
You also donβt need a bunch of different sized needles for nalbinding or whatever. The size of the stitch is controlled either completely freehand or by pulling it against one of your fingers. Most people who have a lot of nalbinding needles seem to either have tried out wood, bone, and metal ones to see which kind they liked or they enjoy carving wood or bone and like making their own needles as an extra hobby.
Itβs also a lot easier to freehand and adjust as you go than crochet or knitting and you mostly go by inches instead of rows and number of stitches so a large number of accessories like stitch markers or whatever isnβt really necessary.
Maybe the lack of accessories also makes it unpopular idk. People do like collecting things in their nests.
I've been wanting to do so, I cannot find anyone who can teach me, and any books I can find on it are Ass in the Visual Learning department. Otherwise I'd be making the hell outta some nalbinded fabric
I found this channel by a nice man who makes up close tutorials
I create videos on YouTube to learn people how to needlebind using two fingers and your thumb. Needlebinding helps people to relax, relieve
I thought this would be kind of a niche post to make but I was quickly reminded that Iβm on tumblr, the website full of gay people with one billion hobbies.
So my bone needle actually came this evening (yay!) and Iβve started trying this for real. It clicks in my brain way easier than crochet does. Iβve gotta work up the muscle memory but I think I can do this.
The downside as a beginner is that undoing mistakes is more time consuming than with knitting or crochet. Youβve gotta like sew your mistakes out backwards. Disadvantages of making a really sturdy fabric I guess.
I like the feel of this bone needle though and donβt think Iβll be trying the wooden or metal ones.
Also I think Iβm gonna have to get good at doing Russian joining if I decide to get good at nalbinding because I donβt have wool yarn and the ends wonβt felt together if itβs not at least 50% wool. A small price to pay for using big bone needle though.
Anyways curse of new fiber craft be upon ye.
@what-even-is-thiss re:russian joins & felting, not necessarily! When I was researching for a lecture, I came across a silent film on the Norsk Folkemuseum's channel that includes a segment on nalbinding. At about 9:39, you can see a different joining method that doesn't involve felting.
I was tickled to find this because I'd been looking at a lot of stuff made out of not-particularly-feltable animal hair and wondering how it worked, only to find that the answer was: there's no reason you have to connect the ends at all. You can just weave in a new tail of yarn and start where the old yarn left off, and since it won't unravel you don't have to do anything more than that.
Also, this channel has a lot of videos about stitches: https://www.youtube.com/@Neulakintaat
Most of them are in English and Finnish. I found them very helpful when I was trying to figure out certain stitches.
Grace goes swimming! Rocky is not thrilled.
Eridians cant "hold their breath" like humans do, their vents dont close completly so water can still get in, if they fall in water they drown and die. safe to say rocky is not a fan of when grace does it for fun xD
(i got the inspo for this from this fic: Enrichment by alatarmaia4, please check it out it is so funny)
