And in these next 50 years you will eat so many delicious meals, laugh so many times with so many people you love, shout and scream and sing and cry and smile so hard your face hurts. And you will see such beautiful sunsets and feel fresh cold air on your face and feel warm and safe wrapped up in your favourite winter coat.
I wrap this blessing around you like a shroud, so that no ill can find you, and every warmth is held close
To our dismay, the artist and author Marjane Satrapi has passed away.
As she wrote, ordinary Americans and Iranians have more in common with each other than we do with either of our governments, which have far too much in common with each other.
We honor her memory and oppose the war.
anyway every time i post about ocd people start tagging the post like "wait this isn't normal?" and i always like to remind people that intrusive thoughts are normal. pretty much everyone experiences them. "what if i jumped off this balcony?" "what if i crashed my car right now for no reason?" "what if i yelled a curse word in the middle of this wedding?" everyone thinks these things from time to time. it's disordered thinking when the distress starts becoming intolerable.
"am i normal" is not as helpful question to ask as "are intrusive thoughts causing me frequent distress?" and "would my life be better if i could find a way to feel less distress/learn to tolerate the distress?"
millions and millions of people have ocd. having ocd is normal. you're normal. but what if you could feel better? what if living everyday in your own mind and body could be tolerable? is that something you want? need? these are questions to ask.

Thinking about a girl I grew up with who spun her dog's fur into yarn, then knitted gloves out of the yarn and how all the other kids made fun of her mercilessly for it.
And how she's now used those gloves for over thirty winters and each time she puts them on, she gets to pet her beloved dog's fur even though Ginger is long gone. And how even though her bones have long since been swallowed by the earth, Ginger is still protecting her owner from the cold.
Just an ancient pact, passed down from the earliest dogs that slept beside humans to keep us warm, continuing on for decades after one of their deaths.
some kind of worm from the ground i think
Do you have any advice on how to communicate basically like βMy badβ or βsorry for being confusingβ to dogs? Every once in awhile when I have to like speak sharply or pull my dogs leash sharply bc of an imminent danger (eg he sometimes will want to stop and sniff in the middle of the road while we cross a busy street). Bc I donβt normally stop him from doing that, I wish there was a way to be like hey I was kind of mean and confusing because there was something happening. But in dog-ese
so my solution for this specific problem has been to have a way to cue "I need your attention/we need to keep moving" that isn't speaking sharply or leash pressure. I use a high whistle a lot of the time, and Glimmer's previous foster trained a "not your business" cue and a "where's your body?" cue that both redirect her attention to the immediate environment or to me. although it is not your intent, you're essentially using aversive stimuli to ask your dog for something, and if you can work together to install a "hey friend I need you to stay with me right now!" subroutine that's not aversive, you'll both be a lot less frustrated, I think!
you'll want to train this outside of the situation in question, just during casual interactions at home. this is a great use case for clicker training!
You're right but don't say it like that
something is familiar, like a dream I can reach but can't quite hold I'm here for a reason; could it be the reason I was born? (β«)

Rip Anthony Stewart Head.
Here's an amazing story about him that I read years ago and never forgot.
I'd hoped to meet him at a convention, myself, one day.
Tired: J.K. Rowling supporting a woman with anti-trans views. Wired: Buffy actor Anthony Stewart-Head quietly going above and beyond for his
I was sad to hear the news of his passing, but this was lovely to read.
I keep remembering these lines from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
βwhat do you want me to say?β
βLie to me.β
ββ¦ Nobody ever dies.β
i think avoidance is such a little-recognized ocd compulsion. all the time i talk to people with ocd who are like "i was always having intrusive thoughts about using kitchen knives and harming myself or others but i'm okay now because i just stopped using knives ever π so i'm good now"
and i'm like unfortunately i have bad news.
does croutons know how to count to 4

i have recently decided to shave my head. surprisingly good experience. have been given far more professional defference than i actually deserve as a result. but. slight hazard. my coworkers are very kind and they have insisted on complimenting my skull shape. they are very insistent that i have a very nicely shaped skull. this is a perplexing and mildly unsettling compliment. i feel like a hot twink at the gay phrenologist bar. a lot of people have walked up behind me and simply gripped my head like a bowling ball too, which i personally have enjoyed, but suspect the average person would not. also, unless i shave my head every day, it becomes surprisingly hard to take my hoodie/beanie/hat off. its like having my head wrapped in grip tape. overall 9/10 experience.
