as per my last reblog and thinking about the goings on of my online social circles as of late. I do think one of the most useful things I learned over my trials in mdzs fandom is that it’s at times kind of a waste of my time and energy to bitch about mischaracterization unless I can use it as an effective jumping off point to actually say smthn new or definitive about my personal character interpretation. like dismantling someone’s argument w/out having your own argument or thesis statement to like bring it back to or utilize that in support of is effectively a conversation ender. it will almost always result in some kind of chilling effect for people bringing up new ideas or thoughts, and while in some specific circumstances that might be useful or needed it’s not great for creating a fun or interesting community! like idk man what’s the willy nylander quote? it’s bc you guys always bitch about shit?? I mean sometimes you gotta, a world where you can’t be a bitch w/your friends is a sad one indeed, but in terms of larger trends of behavior and cultural norms. just my thoughts!
"write whatever you want!! no one should censor you!! but i am not The Government. i am simply jeff. and can say whatever i want in response to your art" is a take i broadly agree with (however why are ppl posting this like it's groundbreaking in april of 2026 lmao) HOWEVER i think there is a vast underestimate of the chilling effect of audience assumption of a certain "right way" and a certain "wrong way" to "handle sensitive topics" in art
unfortunately no one has yet succeeded in inventing anything sexier than concepts and power dynamics. but im waiting.

I kind of miss the impulsivity that certain spaces used to allow. oh you want a hair cut today? hairdresser in the corner can fit you in before her 2 o’clock. tattoo of a cobra… sure leg or arm? even concerts, back when you could go to the box office thirty mins before any show. not saying these things don’t exist at all, but everything feels booked five months in advance and 10x more expensive
