âAbsolutely. You donât?â Yael laughed, making a face at him, âokay, everyone knows Justin made NSYNC work. If Backstreet had had him in their group, theyâd be better but,â she shrugged, âtheyâre just not. Iâm not sure I can either, if youâre picking the Jonas Brothers over Justin Timberlake essentially. I feel like I donât even know you.â
âCanât say I do.â He shook his head sadly. âAs a whole, the Backstreet Boys are better. They had better songs. Just because they had Justin Timberlake doesnât mean NSYNC is better as whole. I canât help that the Jonas Brothers are the most talented band of any generation. Theyâve really matured since they were last a band.âÂ

Quick reflexes came from years of training to be a hunter, unfortunately, Bea couldnât exactly give that reason to most people. Fortunately, she had a perfectly good reason for having quick reflexes, âOh, you soon learn to be fast on your feet when you have children. Especially when theyâre twins,â Beatrix replied naturally with a light laugh. âIf I didnât Iâm sure theyâd have accidentally crushed my toes numerous times.âÂ
âTwins huh? Whatâs that like?â Growing up, Everett had always wished he had a twin. Heâd wanted a sibling to hang out with, to grow up with, and to have someone to confide in. âYou mustâve learned pretty quickly,â he chuckled.Â

Oh. Oh this was awkward. Blinking, Ruby looked from the sketchbook up at him slowly, cheeks tinted pink. She opened her mouth only to close it and nod maybe a little too enthusiastically. Oh he remembered, she knew it. Scooting over a little and pulling her bag along the bench with her, she let out a light laugh at her own expense. âCaught me, huh? Canât say I was being discreet.â Ducking her head down to look back at her sketch, she shifted a bit before motioning to the page with her pencil. âIâd like to think this is a better one than last time, at least.â
He sat down, resting his elbows on his knees as he leaned forward. He smiled in her direction, laughter in his eyes as he watched her reaction. Everett was flattered that she liked to draw him. He was a little uncomfortable as he always was in the spotlight. âThe sketchbook gave it away,â he admitted. âDo you often sketch the same people twice or is this a big honor?â He thought she was very talented, and that the first one was very good. Heâd never succeeded in becoming talented in the arts, and he admired that she had. âThe last one was pretty good. It might be hard to top.â He peered at her sketchbook. âItâs amazing! It could be a photograph.âÂ

Being a hunter had its perks. One of the many things Beatrix had been trying to improve upon since childhood was her reflexes. When going up against those with the supernatural speed it was important. Seeing the other trip the consequent actions happened in slow motion for Bea. She saw the backpack fall from his shoulder and instantly took a small step back. âIâm fine honestly, it was only the top of your bag that landed on my foot, and it was only the end of my shoe, which are luckily a little longer than needed so I havenât even got one single crushed toe.â
Instant relief washed over Evâs face. âIâm so glad youâre okay.â It was the best scenario of a bad situation, and he was grateful for it. âThose are some handy shoes.â He took a minute to calm down, his adrenaline still high from when he thought he crushed her foot. âYou move fast. If that were me, I probably wouldâve ended up stepping closer to the bag.âÂ

Liz grinned at him, nodding, âThat I can do.â she got a little plate and got to work on cutting little square samples of some of the brownies and other pastries, passing over a minute later. âIf you like any of these and want something to-go just let me know.â she assured, laughing as she wiped her hands clean, âActually those are my favorites. Caramel is my favorite in any capacity, so the salted caramel cookies are the best. We warm them up a bit too to make sure the caramel is soft. Theyâre amazing.â
He began with the brownie and his worked his way through the samples. Waiting until he finished chewing, Everett said, âThese are deliciousness.â If anything, it seemed he had a harder choice now because he had even more options. âCaramel makes everything so much better. Have you tried caramel m&ms?â He decided to go with his gut feeling. âI think Iâll take two of the salted caramel cookies.âÂ

âItâs truly no worries,â it wasnât in her comfort to deal with the confrontation, but she had to give it to the man- he was apologetically trying. It crossed her mind that he could have been in a hurry from a day that had started on the wrong foot, or anything that would have caused this bump in to be something so minor. âDry cleaning wonât be necessâryâ The brunettes tongue clicked as her hand used the one given napkin from the barista to dampen her soaking shirt. âItâs fine, truly.â had it sounded more convincing? Coffee dripped from her cup; âA shirt is a shirt, and I am sure I can get it out just fineââ there was a pause. There had to be room for a small sigh, for Estella had been holding in her breath from the shock of the run in- and hot coffee soaking through to her skin. At least it wasnât scalding. It almost felt refreshing in the brisk air of New York. âSomething told me to skip out on coffee this morning, but it looks like your pack was just irking for a collision.â She tried to push a light grin, it wasnât his fault. âIâm sure this sort of thing happens often here, yeah? An inevitable cliche.âÂ
This was the kind of embarrassing encounter that would haunt him for a while. Despite her assurances, Everett was ashamed with how the whole situation had played out, with the damage heâd caused an unsuspecting bystander. âIf you change your mind, you can always send the bill in my direction.â He felt compelled to help in any possible way. âThis could have been your favorite shirt,â he pointed out. He appreciated how kind she was being, but a part of him believed he deserved some sort of punishment for his mistake. He smiled at her joke. âThere was no stopping it I suppose.â With a shrug, he said, âYeah. Thereâs not enough room for us all.â He did miss the spaciousness of Colorado.Â
yael-jacobsâ.
âIâm not sure,â Yael laughed, taking a sip of her coffee, âI feel I mightâve missed my window to be a boy band groupie. If this was NSYNC, though, well, thatâs a completely different story. Sorry to break it to you, E, but you may have to be a Jonas Brotherâs groupie on your own.â
âYou really think NSYNC is better than the Jonas Brothers? I could respect your opinion if you had said the Backstreet Boys, but NSYNC is crossing a line.â He shook his head, comical disappointment written all over his face. âIâm not sure if I can continue this friendship,â he teased good-naturedly.Â

âItâs always such a shock. This world has some of the best and worst to walk upon the same floor. Iâm just glad Iâm usually given the good. â Del smirked. â I genuinely do. I must have really rattled them by existingâ
âThe differences between some people can be a little concerning sometimes.â He couldnât fathom how some people could be so cruel. âExactly,â he chuckled. âNot everyone can say that.âÂ

Pain shot up from the toes of his right foot and Myles let out a startled noise, stopped mid step forward to keep from punting the bag further down the sidewalk. Heâd admit heâd been a little out of it, had taken in inopportune moment to look to his phone in his pocket to check the time. It wouldnât have been a big deal, accidents happened. What shocked him was the person apologizing. Him again, the shifter from back home. Itâd been months, the guy was still very much a mystery and they hadnât cemented anything. Itâd been a frustrating conversation, both of them skirting around the issue trying to figure out if they really did know each other. âIâm fine, itâs not a problem. Give it an hour and itâll be alright.â He wasnât too bothered, he could walk it off. What he couldnât do was go home and deal with the mystery of this guy again. Â Bending down, he retrieved the bag and held it out to itâs owner. âWeâve met before. Couple times actually. Last time was almost a year ago I think at the park. Told me about spending time âround the foothills in Colorado?â Myles was done skirting around things at this point. Life was too short for that kind of thing at the moment.
âAn hour?â He repeated, incredulous. That seemed like an awfully long time to wait for him, only making him feel worse. âAre you positive you donât want ice or something?â Everettâs guilt was put on the back burner as he recognized the kid. There was no way he wouldnât have recognized him. Heâd played their conversation on repeat for a few weeks after, convincing himself the other knew that Everett was a shifter. He hadnât said it outright but both of them had alluded to it. This brought him a new set of worries. He was worried Myles would tell someone or maybe that he was a hunter and would come after him. As time passed, these worries faded but they hit him like a wave in this moment. âOh, yeah, I remember.â He nodded his head and fiddled with the straps of his backpack. âYeah, I spent a lot of time there when I felt like getting away.âÂ
quinn--youngâ.
Quinn grumbled a bit again as he moved his foot before being curious at the the other mans explanation. âOld case information?â He replied raising a brow. He hated those words usually cause he knew his whole life consisted of old case information. â Itâs fine. Iâll liveâ
âYeah, Iâm a lawyer. Iâve been organizing the office. A lot of it is online now, which makes things easier for me, but not everything is. I wasnât able to get through all I needed at the office today, so Iâm taking some home.â He shouldered the backpack. âAlright, if you say so. Iâm around if you change your mind.âÂ

It wasnât that often that she got to draw the same random subject twice. Itâd been months, but she remembered that face. With New York finally warming up, Ruby was back to her time in the park after work to unwind, sketching fellow park goers. It was quick practice, a warm up if she was going into the shop or even just back at home. He was a delightful surprise on the opposite park bench and she was quick to get down the basic shape of his posture in her sketchbook. Her eyes darted from the page to him and back, her pencil gliding across the paper. Heâd noticed her last time, sheâd hand this one over to him if she got it right. The previous sketch sheâd shown him when heâd caught her, but she didnât think sheâd capturedâŚ.Something about him. There was some kind of ease to him, in his bright blues, that she hadnât gotten right. @everettupshall
Everett sat on the bench, catching his breath from his run. He preferred running outside to going to the gym. While it wasnât necessarily warm, it felt better than previous days, and that was all he needed to workout outside. He missed the scenery from Colorado but the park wasnât so bad. He looked up, about to go stretch when he saw the woman sitting on the bench opposite him. He looked away, trying to look at her without staring. Everett knew he knew her from somewhere and was puzzling over how he knew her. It clicked in his head, the sketchbook giving it away. He looked back at her and gave her a small wave, unsure if she recognized him. He got up and walked over to the bench she was on. âDo you mind if I sit here?â He pointed at the spot next to her.Â

Elizabethâs face pinched, brows furrowing as she looked down at the mark already forming on top of her foot, a bruise sure to soon follow, but at the offer she exhaled and shook her head, âNo..no itâs alright. You donât need toâŚâ she tried to assure, never being all that good of letting others take care of her when it was so usually the other way around. So instead she focused on him and nodded, giving him a little smile, âThatâs always a good thing. It wouldnât be a good start to your day to have bloodied it before noon.â
âLet me know if you change your mind. Iâd be more than happy to help.â Heâd rather it have been that he tripped and hurt himself than injuring someone else. He didnât mean to drag someone else down with his clumsiness. âIf I did, Iâd probably use it as an excuse to stay at home all day,â he admitted. Everett ran a hand through his hair. âYou look familiar. Have we met before?âÂ

Elizabeth smiled brightly, always taking a bit of pride in the stuff the bakery had to offer. One of the reasons she loved working here after all was because of just how good everything was, so she was always happy to hear that others liked all the sweet treats and baked goods as well. âIf you wanted to sample anything before buying you can! That way you can make a fully informed decision.â She told him with a laugh before looking to the cookie trays now on display, âOut of those that just got brought out thereâs snowball cookies- those have nuts in them, double chocolate, and salted caramel. All amazing, if I do say so myself.â
âI think Iâll need to try some samples,â he confirmed. He hadnât come in here with anything specific in mind. It had been a spur of the moment decision really. âThe salted caramel look really good.â He usually stuck with the basic chocolate chip cookie, but he was feeling adventurous. âDo you have a personal favorite?âÂ

âDamnâŚ..â
Frankie brought her hand to her head and scratched it. At least it seemed like there was someone else who didnât really understand the painting.
âI donât think I have ever had that kinda money in my freakinâ lifeâŚ.even if I added every paycheck together.â
The young wolf couldnât help but think about what she would do with the money if she had even half of that amount. Knowing how she was and her temperament, Frankie would probably end up being so much more screwed up. Sheâd gamble, drink and ohâŚ.the list was endless.Â
âIf I had money like thatâŚI get myself a carâŚhellâŚIâd get two or three carsâŚall fast onesâŚthat could leave other ones standing once you hit the gas.â
She inhaled and knew she was dreaming. Frankie highly doubted it would ever become reality.Â
Everett lived comfortably; money had never been an issue for him, but that still seemed like an unreasonably large sum to pay. âI think there are very, very few people in the world who could afford that.â He assumed there had to be something to it to explain why it was so expensive, but Everett didnât see the appeal. âYouâd be able to start a whole collection of fast cars. Then you could go on to make a museum for them or sell them for lots of money.âÂ
