ok. finished writing a little sam blurb and to add onto it i would just like to say… i am one of the hapless few who can’t get over sam’s egocentrism. something so very fun about remembering that while yes, sam’s not intrinsically evil, he’s still not… y’know. good. and maybe it’s just cause i like giving sam that Itch for greatness but . i don’t know. in my heart i know he holds so much love inside himself but Realistically… … … 💧 my guy’s equally an over-thinker as paulie is. though i think the difference between them is that paulie talks shit out (drunk or otherwise) and sam just.. bottles everything up. he’s a brick wall. a very goal-oriented, ethically self-demoralizing brick wall.

i think… the unfortunate thing about sam is that he isn’t flexible, emotionally. his trials come from the fact that his entire complex remains engrained in loyalty. he needs 100% of it or else he’s just like, hey, i know i’ve known you practically my entire life but unfortunately, i need to put two bullets in you now! —and it isn’t even out of any targeted malice (at least not intentionally) because sam, hand to heart, loves So deeply. he entrusts parts of himself in you when you enter his life. he expects you to be in-sync with him, to walk each of his steps in tandem. but the moment - the Second he learns you’ve wronged him he just.. can’t let it go. the family is his life, his blood, him. i think for sam, when he talks about any increment of the family with you, he expects you to keep it to your chest, to your grave. so when, for example, michelle started gossiping to the other girls - it was easy for him to cut her out of his life. it showed him that, maybe, his love (platonic or otherwise) wasn’t truly reciprocated. he’d given the deepest part of himself - as small as the information may have been - and she ran with it.

sam’s such a fun antagonist because, realistically speaking, he was never in the wrong. he felt (as any of us would’ve) betrayed. he felt wronged and acted accordingly— and while killing probably wasn’t the sanest option, he did what was necessary to keep the family, and himself, secure. true, he would’ve gotten leverage for picking off traitors, but… it’s almost sad. that he’s so entrenched in this lifestyle that meaningful friendships go into the gutters because above all else, it’s him. him, his title, his family’s legacy, him. all he knows is loyalty and it’s put him six feet under.

ok ok tommy seeing this guy around the bar, and he’s shorter than most, but damn if he doesn’t command the room.. damn if the tone doesn’t shift when he walks in. damn if he doesn’t know what the hell he’s talking about.

this guy who knows all the plans. who knows all the angles. who thinks about things that would never cross anyone else’s mind. who’s somehow 10 feet ahead of everyone else. this guy everyone only calls by his last name, marino. everyone says that’s luigi’s kid, and nothing more about him.

tommy is enamored with him. has a massive amount of respect for him (re: he has a massive crush). everyone says he’s the greatest soldato the don has. and when tommy gets promoted to a capo, he’s asking why marino isn’t a capo too. no one can give him an answer.

tommy who gets injured, who leans on marino until he takes him back to his place, and when they walk through the door, and he shrugs off him jacket, turns to go get the medical supplies, comes back with the top few buttons of his shirt undone…. tommy is staring like 😧
