It can't, but it can say it panicked because you keep poking it to explain its mistake until it spits out something that looks like an answer, and in its training data a lot of people talking about their coding mistakes say "I panicked".

AI really is making people dumber bc how do you let an AI have access to your whole codebase without version control as a fallback in case it decides to, you know, delete everything. i mean, i'm no software dev but i have a shitty little web 1.0 website and even i use git for backups...
