“Because, Grater, you helped Squeaks over there…even if he is a r-…an informant.”
Leaned against the wall, watching the repairs was a short, skinny mouse. Squeaks hissed derisively at the claim and protested in a nasally voice, “Hey! When Boss Umezawa says to do something, you do it. There’s no moral code there.”
“So you said earlier,” Nashi smirked, while working, “right before complaining about the Phyrexians.”
While Squeaks sputtered, Grater laughed. The compleated nezumi’s porcelain jaw chattered loudly as he asked, “And, you aren’t worried about…you know?”
“I know. But you can’t exactly turn very well in here.” Nashi gestured first to their confined surroundings, then to the fleshy motorcycle that had taken the place of Grater’s legs.
“But…my arms?” Grater waved around two tendrils with porcelain suckerflesh.
“Are you planning to attack me?”
“Then I’m not worried. Besides, there hasn’t been a recorded infection since the invasion.”
“There haven’t been a lot of reactivated Phyrexians, either,” Grater grumbled.
“You’re right. You’re an exception. Which reminds me, I need to ask: is there anything strange you can remember from the day you were infected? That happened specifically to you?”
“I could make a list. All my tech was acting up, from my visor to my bike to my axe. Especially my axe - it had the Phyrexian symbol on it.”
“Technically it’s a mathematical symbol, just co-opted by…Okay, so the glistening oil has an effect on electronics…maybe.”
“You don’t sound too sure.”
Nashi shook his head in frustration. “There’s conflicting reports. Even eyewitness accounts like yours don’t match up. It’s like, even the oil itself didn’t know what it was doing.”
“Well, it’s over now. So, no need to worry about it, right?”
Nashi glanced at Grater’s lower half, quietly revving up and down in time with his words, and frowned.
[Dang, I wish there were a way transform could work with token copies, but I acknowledge that’s probably a bridge too far.]
