I get why strat did it. I can't even say that she was completely wrong to do it, because it ended up working out. It just makes me physically sick how it was done. She didn't need to have them chase him down. She could have had him say no, "accept that" and then slip him a drug some other way. Put some kind of sleep gas in his bunk or something. She did not need to cause him that kind of Terror, and while secretly doing it is still evil and bad, the way things went is just so much worse to me.

In my head there lives a dean that is violently bisexual. Not flamboyant or visibly out, you'll never see a pride pin near him, but homophobes? Punched. In the face. 60% of the bar fights he gets into are bc some asshat was being phobic at someone. (20% are then for defending women/fems being bothered, all the rest are just when he needs to let off steam/feels like he deserves to be hurt)

This dean doesn't shy away from the boyfriend allegations. This man is never going to react offended for being called Gay, or having it insinuated that he's dating Cas. (Whether or not they are a couple at a time).

He still has a lot of his Hang-Ups about masculinity, and what makes a man, but I imagine he saw John getting mad at queers being in love, and my Dean was like "love can't be bad :( wtf" and this is one of the ways he rebelled (tho john only knew about one time dean was defending some trans woman and John beat tf out of dean in response. John knew about dean, tried to beat it out of him, but it never worked.)

This dean didn't pretend to be a phobe in front of his dad, he was just very nonchalant. He knows love isn't bad, and he's secure in himself (at least with this) that it's only a "thing" that one time

rocky getting into pseudoscience for shits and giggles would be SO FUCKING FUNNY. imagine: he might take it seriously for five minutes. the whole point of it is that its vague and convoluted enough to hook people who have some blind spots as to how the world works. lots of earth culture sounds made up! its all very confusing!

and then grace very gently corrects him but also crucially makes fun of him the entire time.

rocky: (peeved) how would rocky know this crazy science wrong and dumb? relativity also crazy science but is real!

grace: haha... but seriously though. its not remotely the same. (twenty minute rant about how people conflating the two is actually a VERY serious issue back on earth)

rocky, being inquisitive, keeps researching and soon finds out that bringing up his new pseudoscientific discoveries & pretending to be fully earnest about it all is probably one of THE easiest ways to drive grace up the wall. needless to say he exploits this tactic to no end.

rocky: i do research. grace is jerk all make sense now. astrology birth chart say taurus with ascendant leo very ambitious. strong opinion, independent thinker. also big ego. easily bruised if criticized.

grace: ... i know youre trolling and this is all bullshit and yet somehow it affects me.

rocky: moon in gemini also very insightful!

grace: dude im begging you to stop. what do i have to do to get you to stop.

rocky: math is sound... stars and planets no lie. opposition between moon and saturn responsible for grace emotional constipation! ohh, grace also have difficult relationship with guardian in early life, expect neglect and rejection from others, is all coming together now...

I'm Charmed by the idea of Rocky establishing astrology on Erid... Meanings related to their own constellations (they'd have to come up with them if that's not an Erid thing yet), choosing what goes with the planets of the solar system, and so on. And that whole generation maybe jumps on it for fun, something cool the alien brought with them, but eventually over time those original constellation images and stories would turn into myths, and I imagine it would turn into something very similar to what we have here on Earth.

something that i DO find fascinating abt both phm and interpretations of it is when folks say things along the lines of “the point of grace’s lack of attachments isn’t that he’s aroace, the point of grace’s lack of attachments is that he’s refused to open himself up enough to form ANY close bonds because he’s a coward” because like. not only is it very possible for both to be true, i think that reading both as being the case continues to enhance the story AND speaks a very honest truth about how being aroace might have affected his life?

like. imagine you are grace. you have a life you enjoy where you get to teach kids you’re fond of about a subject you love. you’ve been hanging out with your friend marissa weekly for years (!) and you have a lot of peers on project hail mary who you respect and even have fun with. but! you’re also like 40, and you know how the world works - at the end of the day, at the end of the project, all of those people will go back to their parents and families and partners. the people whose names are on their emergency contact forms and birth certificates and marriage licenses and apartment leases. no matter how much you care about them, and no matter how much they care about you, there is always someone else in their life who is Above you, and Before you, because That’s How The World Works.

so like… yeah. lmao. aroace grace not opening himself up all the way because he anticipates pain and wants to avoid that is a kind of protective hedging that i find very likely for him to engage in? even if he opens himself up to the people around him, the fact is that most of those people will only reciprocate to whatever degree they/society deem acceptable for friendship, even if they like him a lot.

which is why, imo, the very careful portrayal of grace and rocky’s friendship in the phm film reads as extremely aroace-coded. because it’s not “rocky specifically is Special and Likable in a way which fixes all of grace’s hangups and allows him to open up” - it’s “rocky has a partner to go home to, but on multiple occasions, puts grace Above and Before that in a way which grace is unused to, because grace comes from a society which culturally and legally devalues the types of relationships he wants and holds most dear.” and once rocky shows that he is willing to reciprocate friendship and care to a degree grace could never expect from anyone on earth, grace no longer needs to maintain the kind of emotional defenses he always has. grace likes rocky and wants to be friends from the moment they meet, of course, but only lets himself form SUCH a close bond after rocky demonstrates that he, too, does not place an earth-society-style limit on the strength of their friendship. and they’re both better off for it!

Idk if it's the remnants of fandom culture, the age of binging, my ADHD, my star chart, or something else but the cycle from obsession to obsession can't be healthy.
