blade runner is. questionable. it’s “of its time” which is to say that it hates women. but lucky for me i’m a chronic watsonian enjoyer. rachael bladerunner i love you. pris bladerunner i love you. get out of this movie NOWWWWWW
Forgive me for another Ryan Gosling post but I've watched like 10 of his movies in the past month so. Y'know what I think is crazy about him, as an actor? If you looked up charisma in the dictionary there would be a picture of this guy, if you watch his interviews he plays very well off his costars, he's a great storyteller, etc etc. But then he doesn't ever play the popular guy with lots of friends. There's this thread of heartbreaking soul crushing loneliness running through every character he plays, all in their own individual way.
Officer K has no one, will never have anyone, and resorts to playing house with a hologram. Ryland Grace is liked but not close with anyone on Earth. Lars is terrified of people. Driver is a loner. Jacob is suave but detached. Holland March lost his wife and his job and is drinking himself to death for grief. Colt Seavers almost loses the love of his life because he can't be vulnerable. Even Ken, ridiculous and comic relief-y as that character is, is desperate for his girlfriend to see him and love him like he's a real person. I saw an interview where he said he took that role because he saw his daughters leave their Ken doll face down in the dirt and thought "his story must be told" but like. That's kind of all his parts. He's got insane range it's true but his typecast is "guy who's afraid he might never figure out how to be human". And Gosling SELLS it too, wears his heart on his sleeve for the camera if not the other characters. You can see the despair and longing behind his eyes. It makes my chest hurt to watch. He is such a good actor it's insane

dawn dimmadome? wife of doug dimmadome, owner of the dimmsdale dimmadome?
actually she took the dimmadome in the dimmadivorce
If you think about it, all these thinkpieces about how Millenials are “killing” various industries reveal a pretty colossal sense of entitlement.
Under normal circumstances, if a given industry finds itself unable to sell products to a given market demographic, we’d say it’s that industry’s fault for failing to offer products that that demographic is interested in buying.
It only makes sense to blame the target demographic itself is if we’re assuming that the established industries have some intrinsic right to that demographic’s disposable income that’s being denied - which is clearly nonsense.
And I thought Millennials were supposed to be the entitled ones?
Thank you for putting into words one of the factors that has rubbed me the wrong way about the litany of articles and quotes about how Millennials are Ruining Everything ™.
Like, I have worked very hard to put out real, genuine quality stuff. The best that I can make while offering it at a reasonable price, because a business transaction should be fair; you get a good product, the business makes some profit, everyone walks away happy. I am not even that old, and I have already seen a significant decline in the quality, craftsmanship, materials and labor sources in almost all of my purchases compares to the items that my family bought when I was growing up- and I’m talking the expensive stuff, too! We have bought two Dysons from Costco in the last two years (returned both, thank god for Costco’s return policy!) and neither one functioned as well as Megan’s old parent’s Dyson that was made in the 80′s. My grandmother has an old metal sewing machine that has been kicking longer than I have but I’ve been through about four sewing machines in my lifetime, each one managed to last twoish years. And these are the things off the top of my head, and it goes all the way down. Like how they started manufacturing secretly-smaller containers for things with the bubble on the bottom so you don’t notice there’s less product inside, or how Charmin made their rolls ‘shorter’ than they used to be but they are still technically the same number of ‘sheets’- I mean, I know I sound a little crazy, but if you’re Charmin and you reduce the amount of paper material per-roll by even a single penny, even a fraction of a penny, it would add up to much bigger profits; and a bigger expense passed on to the consumer, who won’t notice that the rolls are an inch shorter (except me because I’m weird that way)
I see companies constantly finding ways to cut corners, pay employees less, and put out crappier merchandise, and then go “Why won’t anyone buy this stuff?!” and I just don’t get why they’re confused.
I’m resurrecting an ancient post, because nothing here has changed in the intervening time. The recent post about “tech hoarding” because people aren’t buying new phones on a regular schedule reminded me.
The companies definitely now feel entitled to profit and business, rather than earning it.
See now: “how dare Gen z not buy alcohol”
I’m sorry you priced people out of your product. That’s your fault, though.
Devastating to have more evidence that done IS better than perfect
Additionally, findings indicate that the act of doing shows you that you were not seeking perfection, you were fearing inadequacy
@grey-and-lavender
#oh that last line gutted me #is there a place between perfect and failure?
Good news! There is!
Bad news! It is called 'done'
✨ fuck ✨

;___;♡♡♡♡
genuine question from someone who would rather chew their arm off than go to a public gym, and also doesnt have a lot of money: how do you safely get into strength training? are there youtube channels, apps (android), etc anyone recommends that makes it approachable and don't lean into diet culture / body shaming?
also the biggest thing that keeps me from working out is that I already have joint and spinal issues and moving the wrong way can fuck up a knee or a shoulder or my spine for days. I really don't want to injure myself, and have unwittingly done so before. resources that are extremely clear on exactly how to move and offer gentler / alternative ways to move for people with limited range are vital.
Okay, so this may not technically be strength training, but muscles are dumber than bricks and cannot tell the difference between your own bodyweight and actual weights.
So, may I recommend:
Hey everyone! My name is Hampton and my brand is Hybrid Calisthenics. You can find me by that name pretty much everywhere on social media.
He runs a YouTube channel where he goes over how to work your way up to more complex exercises (for instance, his pull-ups videos start with using a door jamb and moving your weight back and forth) so it's good for easing yourself into things.
You also don't have to fork out for expensive weights and such if you don't want to/can't. Substitute with stuff you either already have at home or can get from the supermarket and build up the weight you can exercise with. 500 gram cans of butter beans then 750 gram bottles of pasta sauce. 1 litre drink bottle then your 1.5 litre milk bottle. 3 litre bulk-buy bottle of laundry detergent. Etc. One of my dogs weighs 13 kilos and I pick her up on the regular (to her delight). One weighs 16 kg and I pick him up too (to his consternation and mild disapproval). You don't have to fit out some fancy home gym before you can start strength training.
I second Hybrid Calisthenics, that's the program I use. It's run by one guy who's taken it upon himself to make exercising more accessible and it's completely free! Each exercise has different variations based on your ability and each variation is further divided into different levels of difficulty so you can work up to where you want to be. If you can't do a single push up for example then this program will help you work up to the point where you can, and if you're a master of push ups then there are more advanced body weight exercises you can tackle so you can keep moving forward in your training without stagnating. The routine offers a full body workout with absolutely no equipment required for the beginning levels. The only reason you would need to buy anything is if you want to work up to a full pull up, at which point you would need actual pull up rings
Here's his actual website which I feel is easier to navigate than the YouTube channel on its own and organizes things in a way that's easy to understand. He explains everything you need to know about the routine and each individual exercise has both a text description and a video tutorial
@movementnudge
a good fan edit will change how to you listen a certain song forever
every $30 purchase is like a razor sharp arrow stuck firmly in my muscular wearwolf back
sorry i never replied. everyday is blending together and i'm losing sense of time

I know we’re all like lawless nonconformists but you really can’t be texting and driving. that’s one of the ones you’ve gotta listen to for real
Not even at stoplights!!! I know it’s so so tempting to just glance at your phone when you’re stopped, but there’s actually something called “distraction hangover” where even once you put your phone down, your brain is still processing the interaction and isn’t fully paying attention to the road for up to 30 seconds afterwards. So it’s still really dangerous even if you’re stopped when you look at your phone. If you need to check something on your phone, pull over.
this especially applies to people with adhd. you know that symptom you may have heard of called “difficulty transitioning between tasks”? you don’t want piloting a ton or two of potential death to be the task you can’t mentally switch back to.
Id like to welcome you all to tuesday
