I'm a pacifist like institutionally but I'm absolutely certain that violence solves at least some problems on a much smaller level. I don't believe in wars or nuclear weapons or military campaigns I do believe in the power of that guy who punched the nazi in the face so hard his entire media presence immediately crumbled to dust
"Discourse" is far too dignified a term for the foolishness y'all get up to. We should go back to calling it wank.

i think more haunted houses should have haunted clawfoot bathtubs that move and exist as separate, distinct demonically possessed entitiesΒ
Fun fact! Haunted bathtubs are an example of coevolution with haunted houses! As houses became more elaborate, haunted water fixtures changed to match the opulence. As such, the haunted hut and its symbiotic counterpart, the haunted well, gradually changed into the more inviting haunted estate with the haunted tub now being an internal parasite instead of an external one. You are correct, more haunted houses SHOULD have haunted clawfoot bathtubs because they promote the health of the house and indicate a functional paranormal ecosystem.
this website is so utterly detached from reality i love it
I just imagined a haunted house as a full on ecosystem that needs each haunted piece in order to function as a whole. So if one spirit is exorcised then the whole system goes nuts and eventually ceases to operate. Meaning that once an exorcism takes place the entire house suddenly gets 10x worse till balance is restored.
βListen, maβam, we canβt just exorcise this one poltergeist, this is a load bearing poltergeist, ok? We remove this one, we may as well rip out the whole damn ectosystem.β
#velvet highbacked armchairs live at the top of the predatory chair hierarchy despite being pack poltergeists much like their haunted kitchenware counterparts #apex poltergeists such as haunted beds and chaise lounges and dining tables strongly dislike being moved
Fuck genAI. A reminder that if you support genAI in any form, use chatGPT instead of your brain etc - pls unfollow me π₯°
People replying to this that not all data centers are bad and some are used for the tech that is really needed - pease youse your cognitive skills, the discussion here is clearly about genAI. I understand that people's reading comprehension and understanding context sucks nowadays, but come on.

Huntrix based on Klimtβs Water Serpents
Regarding witchy abortifacients, didnβt native Americans have pretty effective plant-based abortifacients? If they did and thatβs not just a myth, thereβs got to be some way to recreate what they did safely right? Or is this a willow-bark /aspirin case, ie, the plan based compounds have since been synthesized and thatβs what we call Plan B or whateverβ¦.?
Herbal and "natural medicine" abortifacients will straight up fucking kill you and have straight up fucking killed people in the populations that used them throughout history.
A while back I tried to start a website that was meant to provide information about safe reproductive and abortion care post 2022; the site broke down over my inability to manage projects and I regret that it never went anywhere but legitimately one of the most terrifying things that we came across was a pro-choice zine full of witchy "traditional herbal medicine" abortion options that included pennyroyal and rue.
This is a "the poison is in the dose; you have absolutely no way of knowing what amount of the active compound you're getting from a tea or tincture so a crop collected in an area that had richer soil might kill you while a crop collected in an area that got more sun might not work at all" issue.
When people talk about traditional medicine remedies that "worked" for terminating pregnancies or other pregnancy-related care, I think one of the things we're leaving out of that conversation is that the mortality associated with pregnancy has traditionally been *staggeringly* high compared to modern standards.
If you need a medical abortion or think that you might need a medical abortion in the future, consider reaching out to Aid Access, which provides abortion pills by mail.
"Native American" or "TCM" or "Ayurvedic" herbal preparations are sometimes elevated as safe options because they've been 'tested over time' or 'used for centuries.'
In many cases the remedies in question have NOT been used for centuries, or are based on preparations that are no longer possible or are fundamentally different due to different growing conditions, or were used for centuries but were never compared against the list of people who 'successfully' used the treatment and died of liver failure three months later, or were used for centuries but only recorded the people for whom the treatment was successful, not the people for whom it did nothing.
The point of using science based treatments is not that the word 'science' imbues the treatments with some special efficacy, but that the concept refers to treatments that have known, tested outcomes that are predictable in their results. The process of science is the process of documenting repeatability. We know the percentages of pregnant people for whom mifepristone is an effective abortifacient within 14 weeks of conception and the percentages of pregnant people who had allergic reactions to the medication and the percentages of pregnant people who needed post-medication care to prevent infection. We have *no idea* what those numbers look like with herbal remedies that have not been similarly studied, and oral traditions reflecting success and safety likely do not accurately represent the risks associated with taking wildly variable doses of a compound that could have catastrophic interactions with your daily dose of insulin or antidepressants or bloodthinners.

harm reduction dislikers will say shit like "I see that a problem has occurred. my plan for how to handle the problem is to make everyone pretend that it has not, in fact, occurred. if you try to treat the problem then I will give you a second and significantly Worse problem on purpose."
obvs the purpose of the system is what it does, the majority of, like, politicians who push this kind of stuff very clearly approve of the problems and are actively problemmaxxing, but I come across regular laypeople all the time who seem to genuinely think this works. comrade, what the fuck are you doing.
"we have to make problems illegal to discourage people from having them" we already tried that several times "well we will make them DOUBLE illegal this time" ??????
Dude

This is Morty, a nonreleasable coyote, from the ICRC
only 62 more frogs until we hit 8,000 species described. the moment we've all been waiting for
there are an average of about 150 new amphibian species described per year so I remain hopeful that 2026 will be the year of 8,000 frogs
I do love that somebody tagged tumblr's own frog scientist on this post. chop chop dr scherz, we've got 62 more frogs to discover and you're the only frog scientist any of us knows
GUYS amphibian species of the world is still at 7,994 species of frog BUT amphibiaweb is at 8,008 species of frog, and do you know who is a co-author on the 8,000th species of frog there???? TUMBLR'S OWN FROG SCIENTIST DR SCHERZ
