My favorite star wars shot is in the original movie when theyre approaching the death star trench its a matte painting, then theres an explosion of gunfire and its a model, it looks nearly seamless so well done

nobody understands my vision i don't mean any old story where a relationship fails and it's tragic or w/e i mean a story where the intention is for the audience to root for it failing the same way u root for it succeeding in a romance. & when the relationship finally implodes at the climax of the story it's all very cathartic & everybody cheers.

like many people have said this better than me but no it IS odd that we've come to think of potatoes as so quintessentially european that their presence in historical fantasy where they're anachronistic doesn't jar. and yes people are trying to have the trappings of post-colonial europe without engaging w the icky colonialism part and yes people are neglecting to imagine what a european cuisine without potatoes would be like.

growing up in Canada (and as far as I know this is also generally how it's used in Europe) we treated "lego" as a collective like "rice" or "water". every time I hear someone say they're "playing with legos" it sounds like "eating a bowl of rices".

While lego as a plural sounds incredibly wrong (not saying it is, just feels wrong) your post has now given me the contrary urge to call rice “rices”
