"impulse buy" (noun) anything I have been low-key thinking about purchasing for 3 months, an item that subsequently spent 24-48 hours in my cart as I went through each and every state of grief, and which I then bought, in a desperate, the-guilt-can't-get-me-if-I'm-fast-enough rush.

part of what makes scholomance such a good example of the ya high school story is the way it takes the tropes of the high school experience to an extreme, allowing them to be played for their full potential. Other kids won't sit with you at lunch? Typical ya protagonist dilemma but in scholomance it is a matter of life and death. Kids feel isolated from their parents? you literally can't talk to them. High school social dynamics aren't petty at all here and people devoting their time to social standing is because your social standing is very literally determining your survival. It allows politics to be played in miniature for real stakes, not petty bullshit. This can go in a positive direction too: high school friendships WILL last forever because you live and die for them.

you have permission to pick that 2 year old "abandoned" project back up. it's not mad at you for setting it aside. and maybe time and distance have helped ease or erase the things that made you put it down in the first place.
